Ontario Veterinary College

I worked in the Intensive Care Unit so I was quite busy most of the day. The majority of my tasks were hourly patient monitoring, administration of medications, collection and analysis of blood samples and general husbandry. When an emergency would come in, I would immediately gather the necessary supplies in order to assist the veterinarians and technicians to resuscitate the patient. This could be anything from drawing up emergency drugs, to performing compressions on the patients chest. Although many patients do not return from an arrest, it is very rewarding when they do and get sent home some time after.

difficult clients and sick animals

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
lack of appreciation for staff by higher ups, and lack of transparency when it comes to how you get your wage increases, a lot of gossiping and cliques being formed between staff members

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
8 hour work day, steady, occasionally very busy

Excellent opportunity to work with faculty to organize and prepare final year examinations for veterinary students. The position required meticulous organization and attention to detail and helped to build my skills in these areas. It also required working within a multidisciplinary team of individuals toward a common goal. It was an enriching experience that I am sure has helped me in my professional evolution. 

Working at the Ontario Veterinary College is a privilege and can teach you many skills for careers in the animal care industry. Be prepared to work long and hard hours, but you will also learn about the incredible work that is done at the best veterinary hospital in Canada.

I had the opportunity to do an externship at the OVC and it was a great experience. Everyone is super friendly and welling to help you learn or teach you.

Rewarding workplace, unfortunately not the best hours for part time workers and not the best. Training is great, coworkers are great, very HR coordinated 

Toxic culture with inappropriate & under qualified managers - I love my colleagues & teammates but the bureaucracy of how this place is run really isn't worth the pay.

There are respectful people and you'll find a great atmosphere to work there. You'll work in a multicultural place and enjoy working with enthusiastic students.
