If you're looking to start your career in the funeral Industry this is probably a great place to start.
I worked here for a couple months to just get a feel for different companies that do body removal for The Office of the Chief Coroner of Toronto, as I have worked for many in the years past.
When I worked there the managers were accommodating and in all honesty, fair which is 
not the typical for body removal companies.
From what I could tell it was a well run company.
Very organized and the other employees were generally content.
The only downside is the low hourly rate of pay. It just doesn't align or do justice for this line of work.
You're not just transporting deceased bodies, you're also dealing with grieving families, you're dealing with sensitive information, you're providing dignity to human bodies that were once living breathing human beings that were someone's, father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, etc...
You're showing up working in hazardous environments and conditions.
That should count for something more than $19 or $20 an hour in this day and age.


You’re not constantly busy here, but honestly who wants to be busy 100% of the time? The downtime was actually something I appreciated. Some days are busier than others, but the owners are very understanding and do encourage staff to take advantage of the downtime between calls. They even bring in coffee or snacks occasionally, which is a nice touch.
The job itself is unique and gives you exposure to situations that most people will never experience. They do work for the Ontario coroners office and many of the cases are often pretty interesting. If you are interested in this line of work I highly recommend. It’s not for everyone, and if you’re not suited for it, you likely won’t stick around long. There are days with a lot of driving, especially out of town, but the vehicles are new and comfortable. The pay could be better, there’s always the option to pick up on-call shifts to earn more. Overall, it’s been one of the coolest jobs I’ve had.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Long hours combined with physically and mentally taxing removals made the role difficult to sustain. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Based on my experience, the work environment lacked consistency and structure. Communication from leadership was unclear, expectations were applied unevenly, and concerns raised by staff were not effectively addressed. Overall, the culture did not support long term retention.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day involved working long, often unpredictable hours while completing physically and mentally demanding removals. Shifts frequently extended beyond standard shift lengths.

Ontario Transfer Services has been a great place to work for me, for many reasons. The owners and management are respectful and kind and care about you as an individual. They are very accommodating especially towards students and people with families (and pets!) If you require more hours than given you are able to be put on call at hours that work for you. Staff is friendly and helps out when needed. They also promote taking it easy after all your work is complete (stocking vans with ppe and making sure they are gassed up, easy) while you are waiting for calls to come in.  10/10 recommend if you are interested in the field!

Working as a Body Removal Technician is definitely not your typical 9-to-5 job. It’s a role that demands a lot—physically, emotionally, and mentally—but it’s also incredibly meaningful and rewarding for the right kind of person.
