Working at any of the retail locations is probably ok. But if you are thinking of working at the head office, you might want to reconsider. If you are young and looking to grow your career, you would probably work here for less than a year before finding a different company.

The place is run like an old school company. They track the time you enter the building and time you leave the building to check if you were on time and put in 8 hours of work. Dress code is business casual attire unless you work in the warehouse. There is also a mandatory 1-hour unpaid lunch break with no flexibility around it so you're basically there for 9 hours.

Compensation is a very weak part of Oomomo. Wages are quite low and often hover around $20 per hour even if you are experienced in your field. Benefits package is ok but would fall below average compared to many organizations in Metro Vancouver. The staff discount is probably the only thing at Oomomo that you can't get from working at any other organizations, but then again, the discounted amount is barely anything.

The office is located in the industrial area of Richmond which is not quite transit-friendly (there's a bus nearby that only runs during peak hours). Even if you have a car and park in the company lot, it will  get covered in sawdust because of the plywood corporation across the street. Working from home is rarely an option even during the pandemic, and to keep workers safe, they thought that putting up a 3-foot tall plastic board between workers is enough. One of the stores was also inspected by WorkSafeBC and was deemed non-compliant on COVID protocols, which goes to show how much attention management gave to these issues.

Culture is pretty bland, if not toxic. Employees often don't seem to enjoy working and there is no effort from management to improve that. Management likes to keep information to themselves rather than be transparent with employees. It is sometimes fear-driven rather than collaboration as people try to point fingers to avoid blame.

Unlike other Asian companies, there is no requirement for overtime work, and the workload is not heavy. Employees can enjoy fair benefit, like instore discount. 
However, The first aspect that struck me was the shockingly low salaries offered by the company. And I have to work from 9 to 6, (including one hour unpaid lunch break) which means I need to stay in the office for 9 hours a day. Another major concern I observed is that the entire management team consists solely of individuals from Hong Kong. This creates a language barrier for those who do not speak Cantonese, making it extremely difficult to obtain any form of promotion or advancement within the company. Despite Oomomo's claim of being a diverse organization during the interview process, it is evident that the company is taking advantage of the current immigration policies for HKers to suppress wages.

I found the role to be highly demanding yet rewarding. Hong Kong's fast-paced environment means that as a cashier, you're constantly on your toes, processing transactions quickly and efficiently to keep up with customer expectations.

Customer service is paramount in Hong Kong culture, and as a cashier, I learned firsthand how important it is to greet customers warmly, handle their transactions accurately, and resolve any issues promptly. Politeness and courtesy are not just encouraged but expected, reflecting the city's emphasis on professionalism and customer satisfaction.

This has to be the worst job I've ever had hands down. They don't know how to train you properly the pay is not enough for you are doing. You have an hour lunch but that only means you have to be at work for 9 hours. If you don't meet the targets they will bugging you every day. Their is also zero heat in the warehouse non zip same goes for the break room. Also there's only one washroom just think about that only one washroom during a pandemic unacceptable. 

entry level job, shipping and receiving skills obtained here good for students looking to get experience in the workforce. Also a good place for new to Canada citizens to get started in the workforce here in Canada.

If you are looking for a part time job. This is a good place to start. Workers are friendly! They pay the workers minimum wage. The environment is good, all you need to do is to make sure everything looks clean and restock the products. If you have any questions, just ask the supervisor, that they are glad to help.

I loved working at Oomomo. The store is always busy and the team at this location is just amazing. I was lucky to get to work with them. The store sells a huge variety of imported items so it can be challenging to merchandise but everybody always worked hard and did their best. 

The working environment required quite an energertic personality worker. Once all basic routine responsibilities became familiar, all tasks can be a bit boring but the numerous type of merchandise will make it quite fascinating to work with. 

Working at this company was one of the best experiences that I’ve had. Being a part of a team let me to gain confidence and experience in many different aspects. Employment Professionals is a goal oriented, collaborative and inclusive team where I was able to gain. 

The company definitley has potential, but it’s a work in progress. Sales goals were unrealistic and we were condemned for not attaining them. It also got very annoying constantly screaming “irashaimase” every two seconds. Annoying for associates and customers.
