I have had the pleasure of working with OCCC for about 10 years now and have worked at multiple locations starting in school age into preschool and toddler. I was hired straight out of college and have learned and grown along with each program I have joined. 

Most of the locations I have worked with have been amazing and have had wonderful support systems in management, and coworkers. 

Of course not every program or centre is necessarily a fit due to conflicting personalities/ other outside factors. It can also take time to move up the ladder from 5 hour staff to 7 hour to management if that is what you desire. 

But Head Office is very encouraging during interviews and gives feedback on request  to help you improve for your next interview. 

There is a lot of staff turnover at some centres as staff move on to other positions or opportunities, but the Corp try’s their best to find a replacement quickly that fits so that centres are not left high and dry. 

Overall, Corp centres are a pretty great place to work with good benefits and decent pay. 




I work as a supply educator for the corporation and have supplied at a variety of centres and with different age groups. I have liked some places more than others, as is always the case when you encounter different people, but overall a place I enjoy working and would like to work full time if the opportunity arises. My only complaint was the fact that when I initially became a supply, there was no clear explanation on what the role entails and so it requires a lot of taking initiative, communication with colleagues and just figuring it out as I went along.

Pros: Good pay, good long break--1.5 hour break (0.5 is paid) in an 8 hour shift, friendly colleagues and supervisors.

Cons: The days can be long depending on the amount of children and the varying temperaments of said children and Educators you work with.

Extremely strong nepotism from head office for certain employees. High turnover rate of both floor staff and office staff. Supervisor turnover blamed on teaching staff. Severely lacking support for special needs children - violence is tolerated towards staff and students. Pay is decent for hours worked but burnout rate is high. Benefits are poor comparatively to other workplaces. Vacation time and sick leave are great, however you are made to feel guilty for using either and must find your own coverage - even when extremely ill.

I have been working with the OCCCC since 2011. I have nothing but positives to say. This fast paced environment may not be for everyone, but as an educator who takes my job, the development and the emotional support of children very seriously, I would never choose anywhere else to work. I have a lot of chances to expand and work on my skills from opportunities my program and head office has given me. 

I see lots of negative comments on here and I have to say that is not the experience that I have had here and not of anyone I am or have worked with. 

Staff are not respected by on site supervisors, and escalated concerns are ignored. Staff are expected to work unpredictable hours, shifts change regularly, unpaid overtime is expected, and on site supervisors show little appreciation. Turnover is high as other centres pay the same with a better work environment. 

High turn over rate, almost all staff that have been with the company for more then 4 years are extremely burnt out and stressed due to this care for children is lacking. There is no friendship like relationships with staff or management so your not excited to come to work its very strictly professional and no pleasantries. Not accommodating for family, personal matters or sick days or last minute emergencies. 

Work life balance not good. Management does not support staff when really needed. Children are permitted to kick, scream at, hit and scratch educators, while educators are instructed to document everything and continue on. Most of this paperwork is performed at home, as well as preparing materials for children. Program time is provided, but does not equal the amount of time needed to keep up with expectations. 

As a supply teacher I perform a myriad of duties from play area maintenance, to meal preparation, to first aid, to general activities with the children.  The ability to work quickly and efficiently is essential for the safety of the children in my care.

In working with children, everyday is an interesting adventure.  Even though they are young, the children somehow always find a way to teach me new things and give me new perspectives on life.  It is truly an exhausting yet wonderfully rewarding environment.

The thing I love the most about working for the OCCCC is that they really focus on the wellbeing of their staff. They really took care of us during COVID, and helping their staff through the tough re-entry. 

The standard of care is high, and expectations are as well but that’s what makes the centres great, and the quality of care the children receive even better. 

They claim that they try to promote within but my supervisor hired her friend who wasn't an RECE for a 7hr position. If you get hired as a 5hr, they will keep you as such so they don't have to find new people because no one wants to work the split shifts. 

Also, high gossip and cattiness that the supervisors do not address. Felt like I was in high school again. Never again.
