I have successfully completed all of my in-class training of the Power Engineering Technician (PETN) program at Lambton College, with a G.P.A. of 3.9. I have completed my steam time requirements at the Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus. I have successfully passed the Fourth Class Power Engineering 4-A and 4-B exams. I am excited and motivated to achieve my Third Class Power Engineer certificate in the near future and future goal to achieve Second Class Power Engineering certificate. I am an enthusiastic employee/student, excited to learn and adapt to new environments. I have successfully built the foundation of my knowledge about; boilers, both water tube and fire tube; HVAC systems; chillers and cooling towers. It was my responsibility to chemical test the boiler water, feedwater, condensate lines, cooling towers, and water softeners on a daily basis and adjust operation of boilers and chemicals as needed. I was selected to govern an investigation of the closed loop systems (25 systems throughout the hospital campus) in order to locate leaks and concerns. Numerous issues were identified, diagnosed and repaired. This investigation entailed performing multiple chemical tests daily in order to determine the integrity of the system. During this investigation, an internal examination of fire tube boilers was performed on both the water side and the fire side.

In the morning I would set up wash basins or wash  male patients that are unable to. Pre-op care of patients, shaving patients in area of surgery, enimas for patients requiring surgery. Post-op care after surgery. Feeding patients that require help. Assisting stroke patients to learn how to adjust to life with their disability. Assisting Nursing staff with care of female patients. Making and changing soiled beds

Extremely hectic environment, many people involved in each patient's care. I enjoy interacting and communicating with every level of employee, from housekeeping and transportation workers to Neuro and Cardiac Surgeons.My position involves being aware of the care of 40 patients and all the tests, consultations, appts, diets, transportation requirements, etc. for each of those patients. I am the liason between doctors, nurses, social workers, physiotherapists, dieticians, home care nurses and patient's family members. It is an extremely fufilling job.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Productive and fast paced always on the go

I work a variety of shifts ranging from 8 to 12 hours during mornings, evenings, or overnights. The hardest part can be trying to keep up when it gets really busy. Overall working there is pretty good, my only issue is that it can take a while to get a full-time position. As a part-time I don't get benefits. On a positive side I'm meeting new people everyday.

I loved working at the  hospital  it was great the staff  were awsome and supervisier were very understanding  the understood of we have a family  we  were allowed to go home  any thing we needed  the were there  for us

I have loved working at The Ottawa Hospital and I am heart broken that I have to leave. The only reason I am leaving is to further my education. I hope to one day work again at the hospital but will always encourage friends and family to apply and be seen when required here.

Staff always working together as a team, Helping one and another is very rewarding so the public knows their in good hands and remember that if they need help come to the hospital.

too many years ago and many many things have probably changed.  Working conditions when I was there were excellent. working all three shifts, long busy hours.  Employees were excellent and made many many friends.

Always interesting. Coworkers pull together to achieve success. Management varies. Depending on area of employment can be hard to take vacation or even a single day off.
