Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club

I worked at Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club in the agronomy division. There my duties mainly revolved around the care of the greens, which entailed changing the holes daily and any repairs the greens required. Working outdoors was a blessing enough but the superintendents and the assistants are all very skilled in their fields having both education and experience backing them up. Working at the golf course does involve working in less than desirable conditions but  the staff there are able to lift anyones spirit.

Must be able to get up early, work in all weather except thunderstorms.
You will increase your skill level and attention to detail.
You will develop an appreciation of quality workmanship.
You will see immediate results for your efforts.
It is a safe workplace, but there are hazards that you must be attentive to. The work requires concentration and you must wear safety equipment. (Safety boots or shoes, earplugs, safety glasses, and more in some circumstances)

The Hunt club was a great place to get serving experience but when COVID hit a lot changed at the club. Since it’s a private golf course the food had automatic gratuity on it, but our wages went down as we weren’t seeing as many customers. Management is ok, but my coworkers were awesome. You are part of a union which kinda sucks as you have to pay union dues. And if you’re summer staff you’re usually laid off in October. 

Low pay for the responsibilities we had. Great management but little room for advancement. They were very flexible when anybody wanted time off. We were at the mercy of the elements so days could be hectic or very slow.

Have been working for a couple weeks and it has been a fantastic experience. The people are kind and collaborative creating an inclusive and overall fun atmosphere. It’s a fantastic place for summer jobs for anyone who loves golf or is simply looking for a steady, enjoyable job.

Loved working here and enjoyed my time, I had the ability to develop relationships with my co workers and loved the freedom given by superiors.  Having to talk to members really helped improve conversation skills

Management is lacking but the supervisors are amazing at what they do. You never feel like your are alone on shift due to the unionization, servers share tables and tips are divided by hours

I learned a lot about maintaining a golf course and made a lot of great friends while on the job. The bosses are great and create a great work environment. Overall great place to work.

A lot of walking, but that was fantastic, great way to stay in shape. The hardest part of the job was the occasional blisters on your feet, other than that it was relatively easy

Long hours, little pay, good networking. Management was disorganized. Long hours in heat with sometimes no break. CEO was Inappropriately discussing my looks.
