I really enjoy my job. Working to help children cross crazy-city roads safely. Saying good morning to members of my community is a great feeling. Being an ACG can be a very rewarding job. You must love to work with children, work independently and love all our crazy seasons, especially winter. Working in -30 weather can be harsh at times, but if you dress properly you’ll be fine. Sometimes the parents bring me a warm coffee, which is so appreciated. At times you’ll have the unappreciated driver that drives thru your intersection while your in the middle of the road, or in the middle of the road crossing the child. You must always be alert and react quickly. Management listens and tries to accommodate your requests. 

I have 2 shifts: 8-8.40 in the morning and 2.50-3.30 in the afternoon. The hourly pay is slightly above minimum but you are paid for 3 hours of work and not for 1hr and 20 min.

The most traffic is for about 20 minutes and the rest is just mostly on stand-by.

Kids and parents are generally nice. There are only a couple of incidents a year when cars do not respect your stop sign.

I work in all weather conditions and had to invent pretty good strategies to stay warm or cool or dry; I have a few sets of clothes that I use in different weather conditions.

Not much interaction with other crossing guards or management. The management tries to be very supportive though if you need something.

The job has kept my day organised with a steady schedule.

A very independent, stress-free, at times boring environment.

People are generally nice and appreciative of your being there, especially during the high volume of traffic.

Awesome place to work!  Great communication, job perks, and employee get togethers.

Pretty much stress free, maybe the odd driver

It's nice interacting with members of the community

Staff were very cordial, pite and nice. Before recruitment I was told everything I needed to know about the process. We had an interesting presentation about the job, we had training both in class and online and on the field for the job. Job is a noble job that suits work and family balance.

The hardest part of the job are the vehicle operators.  They hardly pay attention to the fact that we're there in our bright vest with battery operated loud whistles, let alone the little kids!  See above for great things...

My work involved walking children to school each morning, in all weather. I kept a daily log and reported to a program manager on a weekly basis. 
The work was not difficult, but required punctuality and consistency. It was a great job!

Enjoy teaching the children to cross safely and meeting parents. Management is helpful and supportive, very nice group of people. The weather may not always be perfect but as long as you dress properly you will be fine. Getting to know the children and seeing their smiling faces each day is very rewarding.

Should have better pay for long standing employees. nice people, good management, not always fun to deal with drivers and weather...but overall good place to work for seniors or part-time work, especially those who like kids. Very accommodating.

Great to work children but you have to be able to work outside through all kinds of weather very rewarding because the children really appreciate that you are there for them to keep them safe on a daily basis

The management provided good employees opportunities  to learn and expand their skill sets. I gained access to all kinds of information and resources, which enabled me to learned a lot of the business.
