Overhaul Ventures

Before going to my interview more than a year ago, I read all the other reviews about the company. They were not in a positive light. I thought it was just disgruntled past employees. But I still accepted the job when it was offered. This is what I have learnt since then:
•	It is expected that you be as committed to the company as the General Manager and Supervisor are, which means 24/7.
•	They also want emotional intelligence; they don’t want to see you crying but expect to be yelled at for making mistakes after your third week there. And at frequent intervals after that.
•	They will give you backhanded compliments – “You are extremely intelligent, but you’re not smart enough to grasp a simple program” – anything before “BUT” is backhanded away. The Excel program is simple, its remembering what information is to go where and on how many different tabs in the program.
•	You are expected to be able to get all the information about what happened the night before within the first hour of your shift, which starts at 7 A.M.
•	It is expected that you complete a checklist every day of 76 items before 3 P.M., as well as any situations that arise during the day.
•	You are expected to climb up into the Freightliner trucks to do inspections, so you should be in excellent physical condition.
It turns out that all the “disgruntled” past employees were right, and they had a right to be disgruntled.
It took me 15 months to figure out that I can’t meet any of their expectations. 
I was disgruntled towards the end of my time there, but I am feeling much better now.

I am the General Manager of Overhaul ventures, I currently supervise approx. 55 employees, this company is driven to change drivers actions and perception in the industry, Trucking is a super competitive industry and must be steered daily to stay profitable as well as efficient, We are run by drivers for drivers, we have optimal schedules for lifestyle and home time. we provide top equipment and guaranteed schedules, we evolve every year to stay ahead of change, damages, skidded tires and poor fuel efficiency impacts bottom lines and yearly wage increase, so as a team we strive to be better daily and all reap the rewards of our hard work. There is not seniority here, all drivers are paid the same and enjoy the same benefits and scheduling, driver who perform and show top qualities are eligible for up to $400 monthly in bonuses. The positions here are not for everyone , all employees are urged upon interview to understand our needs and policy and make the proper choice before entering into an agreement of employment. As a class 1 driver for 30 years I have enjoyed providing a great environment for those drivers who strive to be professional and learn how to be a Professional driver at the highest level. over the past 5 years, huge strides have been made to meet and exceed our goals set.it is awesome to work with fellow employees that see the future of class 1 drivers changing.Proffesionalism is back at Overhaul.

Interview process was upfront and transparent. The driving test I was nervous, but was all about care and control. They provided all information for my runs; set me up with drivers to shadow in the beginning...some better than others. But that is to be expected. They have 24hr dispatch coverage; which makes me comfortable. If I need any help/support - they are there.
Good equipment, well maintained, and run good tires...better than any other trucking company I have worked for. Management is open to listen to you and answer questions. Some awesome fellow drivers here; and like any place of work - there are a few not so nice ones.
Its a highway trucking job; hardest part is dealing with road conditions and idiots on the road...like any Hwy driving job.
The 4day on/off rotation is excellent...only work half the year. Lots of time available with my family. They run contract - so I know I always have a run when I am scheduled to work. No seniority; we all do same job and have to follow same protocols...I like this.
No touch freight is great; unloading at stores can take time - but some receivers are better than others. We all know that.
There are drivers in their 60's, 70's here and you can learn from them - Shows me I can retire here...no labor in having to on-load/off-load freight. I just watch for my own due diligence.

I’v been employed with overhaul for a year now running groceries nightly from van. to kelowna. the work pace schedule  is easily reached without being stressful. I have 42 years professional driving experience and can honestly tell you that I wish I had worked all 42 years with this company. I’ve had my share of bad employers. in fact I’ve worked for mostly bad very demanding companies. Overhaul Ventures is by far the best company I’ve ever worked for. This is a dream job that pays some of the best wages in the industry. The management here at overhaul are  all very professional and are more than willing to lend an ear for any concerns their drivers might have. I find the company’s policies and procedures to be very reasonable. overhaul’s goal is to be one of the top carriers in the industry and it shows. Their attitude towards professionalism is a breath of fresh air. I would definitely rather work for a company that cares about their employees image and not only companies image within the industry. If you work for overhaul as a driver you will be respected from other trucking company’s as a top driver with a professional attitude. I definitely recommend working for overhaul. I don’t have a bad thing to say about this company.

Management is really focused on fuel consumption more than driver safety. They have a massive turn over because of the my way or the highway attitudes. There is zero trust in what information a driver relays to dispatch. They don't believe vhf two way radio communication is important or could improve safety on the roads. Even though in the most recent incident drivers safety was put at risk and zero communication was available during the severe weather and slide in the Frazer Canyon.(reported costs due to delays was $10K could have been avoided) it's an average company. Best you could say is they have good tractors. The pay is average you can expect to make about $2000 bi monthly being gone 4 on 4 off. Dispatch delays are not paid and you are guaranteed to do some waiting time beyond your resets. It's a super easy job backing into grocery docks if you can put up with lack of safety culture and poor management attitudes.

Its been over one year since I joined Overhaul. Great place to work. 4 day on 4 day off gives you a lot of time to spend with your loved ones which no other trucking jobs usually offer.

In my 1 year of service I have been from Vancouver to the Okanagan and as far up as Prince Rupert. Prince George is my home base.
Yes there has been ups and downs in my travels but what job is perfect.
Come with Positive Attitude and the rest is Smooth Sailing.
Easy to find all of the locations they provide. Option to have a Shadow if your really unsure.
If 4 days is not enough there are extra shifts you can grab very flexible.
The Trucks are good yes they have mileage on them they work 7 days a week. Any problems we write for our mechanics on repair board.           All Major issues with our trucks they get sent to Shop where ever they are destined to for the work being done.

Dispatching for a company that hauls groceries is not only an essential service, it is a job that does not quit. Working here requires smarts, communication, and willingness to work as a team. 
The hardest part of my job would be making sure every detail is caught, because even the smallest detail can have large consequences. The team here is small, which means you can get to know your co-workers easily and quickly develop a good rapport. 
The company owners are a lovely family who do their best to make sure their workers are supported. The wages are competitive and the benefits are excellent. 

Great place to work for those who like to spend a majority of there time in the truck. The work/life balance promised is not reality at overhaul, however they try to accommodate. Driver fatigue is a real problem here and stressed often. Dispatch is available 24/7, however hard to get to know them as they tend to leave. For the first 3 months, work will feel like prison as you are constantly being monitored. After that it’s smooth sailing if you can meet the managers requirements of a tier 1 driver. They do however promise a rate increase in the new year… good luck. 

In my personal experience as an employee at Overhaul Ventures Corp, I have found it to be an overall enjoyable workplace, with many friendly faces, and almost no sense of an unjust shop hierarchy. If you are willing to adapt and progress in the workplace than you will be treated kindly and respectfully by all team members, and have many helping hands when needed along the way. With a great workplace environment, as well as a great work / life balance, if you are looking for a company to help you fast track your career in the field of Commercial Transport Mechanics, I would without hesitation recommend Overhaul Ventures.
