What is the best part of working at the company?
Owens Corning is an amazing company. I worked there for 4 years and the team was very committed and knowledgeable about their roles. My job was challenging (in a positive way), and rewarding and I truly enjoyed working with my colleagues. They care about others, provide support, and are friendly, respectful, and open. The leaders are not only strategic but also know all the operations and are always open to improvement and they collaborate closely with their team. 
Since the first day, I had that "family feeling" because most of the members have been working together for years. 
Besides, I loved they are committed to the community, continuously participating in different initiatives with huge impact (such as being the national sponsor of Jill of all Trades).

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
As everywhere, there are always new projects and many things going on that imply changes and sometimes these additional projects may result in a bigger overload of responsibilities, therefore, Time Management is truly important

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very inclusive, respectful, and in the facility I was I felt it very family-oriented since the beginning 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You will be busy, but at the same time, you will learn a lot and you won't have time to get bored

Hands down one of the most unsafe jobs I’ve ever had. Many of the employees have a hard time speaking and understanding English. Zero safety training on the machines you’re operating. You’re expected to rush to a jam up while putting your hands into operating machines that haven’t been locked out, you’re told to run up 15-foot ladders and you’re supposed to take product off of moving conveyors without guards. They also don’t provide you with a 3M mask unless you find someone who has a code to a vending machine. Most of the time you’re left on your own working on extremely unsafe equipment, so in the case of an emergency there is no one there to hear or see you. You aren’t informed of first aid stations nor of who is certified. On top of the complete lack of safety training, the job is rushed and you are told that if you make a little mistake you can be fired (I was told this on my SECOND day). 

This company is a corporation that bends the law to perform. They take people’s safety for granted. A lot of people are commenting that they pay decently.. no where pays decently when your life is at stake 

Well seemed good when starting there but they do have big problems between management and the union. Their speaker system sounds like a dying cat and we were suppose to understand anything that someone said over it??? Spent two weeks shoveling insulation on a belt while workers came over and asked in disbelief, " No one has trained you on the bagging machines yet???" I said no then sent back to shovel more insulation on a belt. Then finally training and a week and a half later I was not keeping up enough even though everyone was telling me I was doing great. They say they have changed their HR ways but its still 50 and 60 year old union members who you never meet having meetings you are not invited to making decisions. You do not just bag there, there are 4 or 5 different machines to learn, computer systems and how to stop machines from jamming all while you are going like Speedy Gonzalas trying to keep up with bags. People there were good and friendly but come on guys you really need to come up with a better training program and at least give people 3 months for probation before they let you go. Very mixed up there.

At Owens Corning I worked 12 hour continental shifts. This was my first experience and I found there were benefits to this kind of a work schedule and realized I could be very happy on continental or regular shifts.
Typically, you are packaging fiberglass insulation for 6 hours per shift and ensuring that the line is running properly and the surroundings are clean the rest of the time.
There is a very good attitude amongst employees and it is a great environment to work in. There is a very strong health and safety program at this company and there are health and safety programs taught to all employees.

I know what your thinking, “$23 an hour is pretty good for starting entry level.” It’s not, this place is a dreary hole. VERY UNSAFE!!! You’ll be working on a “bagger” that shoots a bag out every 15 second and you’ll have to run 2 at a time. Then it will jam up and you’ll have insulation batts raining down from above, all while the lazy foreman is staring at you angry. I’ve worked a few manufacturing jobs and this is so far below the 2nd worst I don’t know how to explain it. STAY. AWAY. My first night the foreman got us new hires in the lunch room and said Owens Corning doesn’t need us, we need Owens Corning. What a nice welcome.

Its a fast pace labour work, noisy, confusing and caos at times if you are not fast and pay attention at your surroundings this job is not for you! Some people quit after a few days or weeks. At the end of your 500 hours you have been scrutinized by everyone older than one year.  Pays okay but keep an eye on your hours there is no punch clock.  Machines break down and your breaks are interrupted often and if you don’t go and help say good bye to your job.  You are working with insulation and to me is a health hazard no matter what they claim.  

Horrible management.  Engineers dont know how to do their jobs every move they make is a guess lol.  Old equipment always has problems and trades and management say they fixed the problems but never do.  Not a job for family life 7 days or night on then 7 days off.  Always hounding you to work overtime on days off.  Horrible scheduling and not even close to enough staff per shift.  Most days like 5 or 6 a full shift is 8 or 9.  Breaks always being interrupted by machines failing.  Look else where for better employment.

Our plant closed in 2007. It was a sad day. Accident free employees looking out for each other. Won many awards Plant of the Year, best Safety record and all the community awards. Great place to work many friends. To sum it up for ya all.......wages ok, USA benefits, excellent Team members and finally the plant manager was honest, polite and kept his word until it all ended. Id work for that guy again in any business.
