Worked at Square One mall as Security for one year. At first it was an amazing job but wore off quickly. 

A typical day as a mall security at Square One (mornings) You report on duty, remove shopping carts around the property to their respectable store, unlock doors, start up escalators, and open parking barriers, opening locked doors for tenants when required. Patrol interior mall looking for tenant "violations" and completing various reports on pretty much everything. Property damage, customer injuries, thefts, vehicle damage, assaults, etc. Provide customer service to all guests, respond to "security related calls", issue trespass notices, and mobile property patrols. 

Poor work environment as far as "job culture" goes, supervisory staff Immature and unprofessional have poor people managing skills... Very heavy handed when it comes to disciplining staff for almost anything.

If the supervisory or senior staff dislike you; you're job/ time at Square One will seem never ending. No chance for advancement unless you dedicate yourself 4-5 years to achieve supervisor.

Constantly being disciplined instead of receiving training, or proper and professional corrective action. Felt ganged up on by most staff.

Overall an unpleasant work environment, however good security/ private policing experience.

 Resolve and find positive resolutions to domestic disturbances
 Defuse hostile situations
 Train security personnel to find positive resolutions in to most challenging situations
 Train security personnel with court etiquette
 Use of Defensive Tactics
 Use of tactful verbal tactics to defuse tense situations
 Parking enforcement and managing
 Work hand in hand with Police Officers and investigations

Every day brings a new incident, and each one is never like the one before. Which makes the job challenging because you have to be able to quickly switch gears from one task to another to turning cameras and following a situation to communicating it over the radio, and noticing everything they are saying. It can be a fast paced environment but when you have people you can trust to keep you at the top of your game, it’s worth it. That’s what this place does. Managers don’t just sit in their office when you need help with the phones, they will jump in and field calls so you can focus on you task at hand. It’s also a place where staff genuinely get along because 12 hour days can be a long time but when you have someone to joke with, it makes it go by whether you are busy or not.

My working day began from 9-6,in the morning I had a lot of incoming phone calls and email inquiries where I provided an instant response about leasing procedures to prospective tenants. Also there were many walk in inquiries from current tenants with different nature like rent payment, creating work order to fix the problem in the unit, etc..

Every day I was learning something new for myself to improve my skills like data entry for work orders, emergency procedures when elevator is stuck, scheduling contractors for different kind of jobs, etc..

Management was always helpful in any matter!

Workplace culture was very enjoyable.

For me the hardest part of the job was travelling to work: North-York to Mississauga.

The most enjoyable part of this job was my team and the tenants!

I arrive at work at 5:45am.My day starts with me checking the Bas for any out standing alarms. I then check the building for adequate temperature once i finish going through all the checks on the bas, I then proceed with a walk through of the entire complex floor by floor checking all Mechanical room,boiler plant, chiller plant,elevators,compressor,Generator,dry and wet sprinkler system.I would meet with my operation Manager for a coffee to discuss daily operation. I have 3 other operator working under me. I would delegate daily duties for them. I also look after all life safety equipment and testing. These are just some of the things i do .

Checking all the MFP functionalities and the Norton Anti Virus for update.
Checking Heat alert if there is any pending calls that require my attention and solve them ASAP.
Meeting with the management , if necessary, and review any pending issue that might require any further investment to improve th system efficiency.
The hardest part of the job is when Citrix is freezing and all over Canada, especially the West part (Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver) end users are calling off the hook.
The most enjoyable part of job is when an update in the system is producing expected results that amuse end users.

Oxford will claim that you have a balance between work and personal life. Not true. 65 hour weeks is commonly expected. Upper management for most part really are not interested in your well being. If targets are not achieved you will be called out and belittled. 5 years giving my best with performance reviews that were outstanding. 5th year performance review was manipulated to ensure that they were safe in letting me go. Once the writing is on the wall it is clear you are going to be fired. Very little support from head office. Oxford talks the talk but doesn’t walk the walk

It is most advanced Building Management Company. It looks after and manage most of Royal bank's buildings in Toronto. It manages buildings over 24 hours operation. It has Cafeterias and Fun and relaxing areas too. Workplace culture is relaxed and informal. Job involves 12 hours rotating shift which is the hardest part if you have children because you might be working 12 hours on holiday while your kids and wife want to go and enjoy the holiday but you are paid  time and half.
It is good place to work but it involves long hours and holidays work too.

this was one of the worst jobs I have ever had. My manger favors people if he doesn't like you you know it. Never tell any of the upper management you are having problems or you will be let go. You will notice some people get taken to dinner and such and others get nothing they say you get sick days but once you try to take one they need a Dr note and management will not speak to you for a couple days. You have to beg for your personal days. 3 weeks vacation is nice but they usually will never give it to you when you ask for it. The money isn't bad but save your sanity money isn't everything. I hope this saves someone from working at this terrible place.
