I worked with them in the Oil Sands so it would be a lot of time at work. You could choose between working 2 weeks on and 1 week off, or 3 weeks on and 10 days off.

Days were always 10 hour days, but there was always steady enough work to keep you busy, without being overworked. Stayed at a camp for the duration of work and they pay to fly you out there and fly you back home. The room you stay in is quaint and the food is excellent. (Better than some hotels I've stayed at)

The people working there were all wonderful. Safety is a very important thing up there, so it was nice having the morning meetings to ensure everyone was ready for the day and knew what was happening.

Hardest part of the job was just working outside in the freezing cold (Had one day that got down to -50 with a -30 windchill). But you were encouraged to take breaks to warm up in vehicles or buildings. 

Most enjoyable part (apart from the pay cheque) was just getting to work with such good down to earth people who all looked out for each other.

As with the changing of company ownership, so do personnel.

Although there was a transition, Pacer ensured and continued it efforts to maintain a presence in the Alberta Oil Sands Sector.

With New ownership and it's mass diversity, can only perceive a future for the company.

Current economic situation globally that is attached to the oil sector, shortage of work at no fault of any contractor has seen a mass exodus from that industry.

As whole, one must accept change and make efforts to have a harmonic relationship to the Company, fellow superior's, and those who are in the field.

Pacer will continue.

Pacer was a privately owned company that went public in 2014 when purchases by MasTec from Coral Gables, Florida.  Many changes have taken place over the past year and the company lost its "family atmosphere" due to this situation.  The culture shift was extreme to say the least.  The hours are long and demanding and not always recognized but the long term staff still strive to do their level best to get things done as efficiently as possible.

Typical day at work meant giving your 100%.  Learned to work as  team with good bunch of people.  Management had good ethics, tried to be fair with everyone.  Hardest part of the job, is working long stretches of time without days off.  Most enjoyable part of the job, learning new skills.

I was working in the oil sands industry. That means long hours for long period of time (14on\7off). Most of the people out there are fun to work with and usually everything goes according to plan. I've learn to stand by what you know because people tend to judge your ability to understand problems. (foreman vs quality control).

Despite the camp living, the guys I worked with and my direct foremen were a great bunch of guys.  For the most part things were kept professional and the jobs were done safely.

Camp life was not great.  Poor quality food, and less than clean.  run down conditions all around.

Hard work does not pay off at Pacer.  Being in the "in" crowd" is all you need to be able to succeed.  Management has tunnel vision on their project; cannot focus on two things at the same time.  Pacer is fantastic at getting roughly 80% of the job done, then having everything fall apart.

go to work talk to supervisor about what we are supposed to do then we do it. the more you do the more you learn. well manage day. always get along with all my co-worker. when there are break downs that is the hardest part of the job. doing little jobs on my own is the most enjoyable part of the job.

Conducting research based on a specific topic. I was hired as a research contractor due to my training as a Patient Engagement Researcher. It was great working with new people with different perspectives. A lot of the work was around team work.

It was a fun experience whilst it lasted, it’s sad that the branch of pacer I worked for no longer exists. The flights were paid for, the rooms and food at the camps were above par. An I worked with a great bunch of talented people, it was an amazing experience.
