Working at PBS Systems provides exposure to the dealership software industry and the opportunity to work alongside many knowledgeable and supportive coworkers at the peer level. Many employees are hardworking, capable, and genuinely try to help each other succeed despite the challenges within the organization. That collaboration among colleagues is often the most positive part of the experience.

A typical day involves managing your responsibilities while navigating changing expectations and communication styles from different levels of management. While employees generally focus on doing their work and supporting one another, the environment can feel reactive rather than structured, with shifting priorities and inconsistent leadership communication adding unnecessary stress to the day-to-day experience.

During my time with the company, I observed conduct and communication from members of management that would not be considered appropriate in many professional workplaces. For example, when someone asked what the “R” in PRP stood for, the explanation given referenced a derogatory term toward people with intellectual disabilities. This occurred in a leadership context and was not corrected despite being said in the presence of multiple members of management, including Employee Relations.

Managers would also publicly challenge employees in front of colleagues using aggressive or dismissive language, which created situations where staff were undermined rather than coached or supported. In other instances, managers openly discussed employees they did not like and expressed intentions to remove them regardless of the circumstances, even suggesting that leadership support would not be an issue.

Employees are often encouraged publicly to bring concerns forward through Employee Relations. However, in my experience, concerns raised through those channels did not result in meaningful follow-up or accountability. When behaviour like this occurs openly and repeatedly without intervention, it creates an environment where employees may feel that workplace standards are applied inconsistently and that raising concerns will not lead to change.

The most difficult part of the job is navigating the inconsistency in leadership expectations and communication. This can make the work environment more stressful than necessary and shifts focus away from the work itself.

PBS Systems employs many talented people and has strong potential as an organization. However, meaningful improvement would require stronger leadership accountability, consistent professional standards, and a workplace culture where respectful communication and employee concerns are taken seriously.


Beautiful building with great amenities, but that’s where all the good stops. Be prepared to live your life in a headset. This company forced me to give my two week’s notice which led to me losing my job on the spot, before i was even accepted into my position at PBS. The job descriptions and the interviews only provide a fraction of the information as to what is expected of you. Yes you have the opportunity to travel often, but it is far from glamorous. Expect to spend your weekends packing on Saturdays and being at the airport at 3:00am on Sundays. They will put you in the cheapest hotels they can find. You will be away from your home for at least a week or more and working 12 hour days then going back to your awful hotel. IT IS NOT WORTH THE $20/day. When you’re not traveling, you will be at the office. The building is great, and some of the people are great as well. But the training structure is brutal. You are left to “figure it out” if you have any questions. You will spend the first month watching online videos and taking quizzes. Then wait 2 months to do a presentation and hopefully get your “certification”.
All the communication within the company is done via email, even if you are in the same building. If something is done and it is not done exactly how they want it without even telling you how they want it done, they will make you do it again. Some may call it trial and error teaching, others call it a power complex. If you do not know people within the company, you are expendable. This company very much has a cult kind of culture. If you are caught talking negatively about the company in any way, they make sure to tell you in advance that there will be consequences. This company is growing and spending money which is always good for a workplace. But they are not spending money on their employees. They do the absolute bare minimum to be legal in what they are contributing to their employees in compensation. If you are asked if you are available to do something, you are expected to be available even if you are not. People in this company are stressed, and underpaid. People do not take higher up positions as it is more responsibility when they are already struggling, and they do not get any compensation for it. They then hire management and lead position from outside the company. Do not be lied to. This company will take advantage of you when they can and spread you as thin as possible.

If you are one of the Family members, friends or relatives you are set for life. Many upper Managers are so unqualified but are there because of tenure and friendship while more qualified people get passed over or out the door. Horrible culture, poor communication and favoritism. Good job just the culture does not make it worthwhile and wears you down to nothing. Benefits are minimal. Travel allowances are $40 day...you can't even eat 3 fast food emails a day for that but they expect you to go to grocery store to eat. Very odd reasons for some policies. Typical of family run company where many of the family work and have no clue how the rest of the outside world is.  Anyone with good ideas gets quietly let go. Huge turnover in middle management as they get so frustrated having their hands tied and their ideas shot down because the family does not agree. Almost like a non violent Mafia based organization. Product is also cumbersome and has many issues. Updates often released with huge issues and no communication (or minimal) to front line staff. Departments are all run like they are their own company and not encouraged to work together. I have heard from managers they move poor staff to other departments and do not even let them know the issues. A mentality of "Out of my hands now..who cares". It is not a fun or healthy place to work any longer. You have Senior Managers holding positions that require designations but they do not have them and are only there because of who they know, not what they know.

Entering in to the job, it is difficult to predict how entirely mismanaged the company is, and their reliance on management softwares that are poorly implemented. Company culture is a thin layer of community and togetherness, which obscured the fact that every individual in the department I worked in was walking on eggshells, and unclear on how to proceed with anything other than the most basic functions of their job. 
Management and team leadership provide bare bones instructions for assistance with troubleshooting a problematic software, and entirely no documentation on limitations of a support agent, and then respond aggressively about a support agent running up against those limitations. 
Management had scheduled four weekly "check in" meetings in my first month of employment, the first was completed, and all following meetings were cancelled by leadership for various reasons. Within two days of proactively requesting a meeting with management to discuss my concerns about lack of support and training, I was let go. 
The reasoning for being let go was only ever communicated as, "It just isn't a good fit". When specific reasoning that an individual could use to improve their performance in future was requested, the answer remained "It isn't a good fit". 

Stay away from this company at all costs, the façade they put over top of a poor management structure will not last long past your interview process. 


This was my dream job. I was so excited to get a job with the best DMS in the automotive industry. First month was amazing, coworkers were great. Management I was unsure about, but didn’t seem too bad. Then out of nowhere I get let go during my probation. They couldn’t tell me the reason why other than “it isn’t working out”. This destroyed me, and I still don’t understand why I was let go. You can feel like you’re doing wonderful here and then the next day get let go. Be warned you could get let go at any moment during your probation, even if you’re getting good performance reviews from your team lead. I felt totally blindsided and betrayed by this company. How can you say someone is doing well, and then let them go the next week with zero explanation? Seeing as the parts support job has continuously been reposted for multiple months, I think this is more of a management problem than it is the employees you hire. You had multiple great workers, and you let them go with zero explanation other than “it isn’t working out”. Don’t take this job unless you want to get blindsided and devastated when you get let go during your probation. 

I consider myself to be a pretty organized person. But at PBS there is organized and PBS organized. If you are a current or past employee you know what I mean. I learned that the only way to do things at PBS is the PBS way. The are so rigid in there ways and don't want or invite new suggestions on how to do things. Management is not cohesive at all. Every department acts like they are the most important part of the company and that everyone else exists to serve them. Workplace culture is summed up in one word TOXIC . The hardest part of the job was trying to get some clarity on my duties. My manager told me many times that she didn't know or give an answer that someone else would correct me on. I try to keep an open mind but there wasn't anything enjoyable about this job.    

I have been working at PBS Systems full-time (More than a year). 

The pay is decent and there are many opportunities for advancement. If you work hard, you will be recognized. The company is growing at such a rapid pace and new faces are always coming in but if you're doing a good job, the word spreads. You get what you sow. No one here is too shy to let your accomplishments go unnoticed! 

Depending on your position in the company, I won't argue that you won't have a harder time climbing the corporate ladder than others but it is definitely possible. The ones who complain and hate their job don't make it up there for obvious reasons.

Pros:
There is plenty of opportunity to gain experience.
Your fellow employees are pretty great. 
Cons:
Most of the Management are not qualified to manage.
Very little process.
Very little feedback.
Pay is below average unless you are a friend or family member.
High staff turnaround that creates stress for experienced staff.
They do not trust their staff.
No option to work from home/work remotely- unless they like you. 
Inconsistency is everywhere. 
No vision benefits, health care spending account is only $250 per year, you need a doctor’s note for a massage, benefits are partially paid for by employee. There is no RRSP matching or percentage paid by employer. 





Even family members in management positions gossiped about the awful management, but funnily enough they were amazing at putting on a different face when the owners and their kids were around.  It wasn't an ideal job and the turnover was ridiculous...you have to wonder, if the turnover are all negative employees, who the heck is recruiting? Perhaps they should hire someone that can grasp human behaviour to do the recruiting.  One, two, even five to ten employees can be the problem, but the turnover rate there is a lot more.  Perhaps now it's time for them to look at themselves and stop blaming the employees for the toxicity.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Some of the people were nice, but overall it was a cold environment.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The wages were subpar - way below industry standards. The job title didn't match the job duties.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
People didn't socialize or eat together or even take coffee breaks together. The manager didn't see an issue with it.

Sit through boring meetings, sit in front of your computer learning even more boring software.
