PGW Auto Glass

I joined PH Vitre Auto (a division of PGW Auto Glass) in a newly management created position with enthusiasm to contribute to the company’s growth. Unfortunately, my experience was short-lived due to a combination of unrealistic expectations and an inflexible leadership culture.

Upper management is a tight-knit group who have been with the company for decades, and while industry experience can be valuable, it has led to a resistance to new ideas and an expectation that new hires especially those unfamiliar with the very niche business deliver immediate, transformative results. There’s little to no onboarding support, and rather than fostering collaboration, the environment can feel closed-off and unwelcoming to fresh perspectives.

If you are considering joining in a strategic or leadership role, be prepared for limited openness to change and expectations that are disconnected from the realities of learning a new industry. Honestly stay away at all cost

A typical days work with PGW was relatively straight forward. I was required to over look co-workers and making sure job orders were completed in a timely and professional manner.
 
I learned various types of things while working there, such as how to manage a small amount of co-workers with questions about completing jobs properly. And also learned how to use various amounts of different tools to complete job orders. 

The management at PGW were helpful in teaching myself and others in how to complete jobs and teaching proper time management. 

The co-workers at PGW were very easy going, helpful and over all nice employees to work with. 
 
the hardest part of my job was making sure that all orders were completed properly in a timely fashion, and that all questions and concerns from my team members were addressed. 

The most enjoyable part of my job was the satisfaction my employers got with myself and my co-workers in completing jobs properly and a timely fashion.

-My general week at PGW would consist of unloading the weekly order of parts that were shipped from the main factory, assisting customers by pulling the stock required, shipping stock to other Canadian Branches, disposing of any damaged or defective parts and general cleaning.

-This job gave me opportunity to learn about how to deal under stressful situations and come to quick and effective resolutions to problems.

Co-Workers were clearly experienced when it came to doing as little as possible in the largest timeframe.

-As noted earlier, the toughest part was dealing with stressful situations.

-Most enjoyable? probably the sense that my contribution to the workplace made a difference.

If their were no windshields to inspect after cleaning them their sure was alot of filing, phone answering and stock to take.  That kept my day full which I like. I learned that not all windshields are created equal and the slightest little flaw could possibly have a disasterest outcome.

The hardest part of my job was not being able to associate with fellow co-workers as they were all delivery drivers and were gone by the time I arrived for work.

The most enjoyable part of my job was the learning, the contact between phone customers and myself-that I found to be gratifying.

Working at PGW is a fast passed job, i have been trained on many things which include paint priming backlights, lacing windshields burnishing the backlight and paint priming windows. I work with 4 other people on my line including the team lead. Everyone is very helping and friendly. Keeping up with quota can be difficult sometimes depending on the glass and the supplier, (i.e shipment is late, not enough comes on the trailer). The most enjoyable part of my job is the people i work with and the fast passed environment, i love working with my hands which this job os great for.

Work is pretty simple but a little bit boring. I like the consistent hours and pay.  There is very poor communication between associates and management which can cause for stress on the floor. Also, because this is an American run company, some of their policies do not abide by labour laws in Ontario. You are also a replaceable pawn in the warehouse so people rarely say anything about the labour laws not being followed.

Working in the Calgary branch was the best job I've ever had. I only left due to relocation. The company itself doesn't have the greatest pay, but I know that is something they are aware of and working on. The Calgary warehouse in particular has a wonderful group of people who work together and truly care about one another. The manager is stellar and really does everything he can to support his staff and make sure they feel valuable.  I would highly recommend this branch for any positions available. 

was a very good job, but the pay was very very low, and the raise in pay was an insult for the responsibility and accuracy the job required. management was very, very helpful if you had a sick family member in the hospital.also it was a unionized shop but if you asked any questions about what you were getting for your dues you were told to shut-up and quit complaining.not the way an adult employee who loved the job wants to be treated.

Great fast paced environment! Most supervisors had great humour and made the experience more enjoyable. Everyone wanted to make the experience as easy to adjust to as possible. If you are able to keep up with the pace you will do fine!

This was a good introduction to factory work.  I really enjoyed everyone on my line.  We all worked really well together often surpassing daily production targets.  Floor managers were untrustworthy.  There was definitely some shady practices going on between managers and associates but I did not understand the severity at the time.
