What is the best part of working at the company?
The persons you support are amazing people. They are fun and energetic, they really like to engage with the support staff and play games, bake, do crafts and much more. 

As a support staff at PHSS you  work alone and get to know the individuals you support very well. The individuals supported have physical and mental disabilities that hinder their abilities to do certain things, as a support staff you get to spend the day with these individuals and do activities of daily living such as preparing meals, toileting them, bathing them all while helping them to feel included as well as supported. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The company is not very helpful at all they are based out of London ontario which means they aren't local and your stuck dealing with issues like  discrimination and other things while the manager is in London, On not helping you.

I actually loved the job if it were not for some staff that caused big issues and lots of turbulence. Because you do not have managers watching and seeing how people work/ behave on a daily basis it has caused alot of issues with alot of staff at PHSS. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Not inclusive, the staff are very rude and mean. They are clicky like high school and it can get very toxic unfortunately. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Start at 8am help get the support persons up from bed, give them breakfast then brush teeth and wash faces. Once that's done usually play some games such as trouble, yahtzee, etc... then I would get lunch ready for them and serve it at noon.  After lunch we would have some quiet time to read, watch TV or write in journals. Then usually some baking or crafts until 4 when it's time to go home.

The only positive thing I have to share about this workplace is the amazing clients. Senior management is completely unprofessional and under qualified to deal with situations. They talk behind staffs backs and share confidential information about staff. They do not encourage individuality nor respect diversity. Management does not make you feel valued or appreciated. The benefits suck, if you are full time you don’t get any sick time. No work life balance. It is expected that you will pick up varying shifts. If you value work life balance good luck moving from part time to full time. Senior management does not promote person supported autonomy. 

Little to no work-life balance, making it hard to maintain personal commitments. Management often seemed disorganized and disconnected from employee needs, leading to a frustrating work environment. Additionally, the lack of job security left many of us feeling anxious about our futures especially when approaching management is off the table without fear getting into trouble. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this company.

The company is so helpful and orient their staff for better integration.  Teamwork and humanity. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Evening shift is my preference. Reserved for Evening routine care and help people sleep safely.

The people you support are very wonderful but with the growing stress from the pandemic and the ever-changing needs and restrictions put in place it can be difficult and very stressful. Upper management keeps putting more and more responsibilities on lower management plates with less pay. You're doing more work for the same amount of pay that has been the standard for years.

Demands a lot and pays a lot less than their peers. Toxic work environment with micro-managing, every simple tasks and blaming co-workers for management oversights. There is no job security and I would never recommend anyone to work at this place.
The organization proud of its age old practices and frowns upon any proposed changes.There is no democracy on decisions as it changes with the moods and temper of the management

Of course this a job you would take if you have a passion to care for others, But I  would say it gives you more. I am paid great + appreciated by my supervisors and co-worker. working with clients is amazing and you do get a full care plan + list of any and all possible emergency procedures. 

I enjoyed taking care of my patients and i have learned alot from the them however being called in the office after 8 months of working there and passing probabtion abd being let go with no warning is not only heartbreaking but extremely disappointing and enraging.

The participants and people we support are amazing and make the job so worth it. Coworkers and colleagues are all dedicated to ensuring that we are giving person centred care and advocating for the people we support.
