A great place to work for a start to your career in any social services! You will learn a lot about policy and organizations structure and how the systems work. It gives the ability training to whatever you choose to do next in your career and the pay is good union! Vacation time is on the basic level for the department and benefits are good. The management does stick very closely to the union contract which it means there aren’t any extra things for the workers or leniency for yourself as a worker. It can be strict and seem like the clinical approach and that is unique in the sector. My experience with the other staff here was good and fair with my teams of coworkers they are the good people. If they were here for a long time already it seems for a lot they seem disappointed. Managers here are nice good people too and they do most of the things for the organization so you don’t really talk to them. They are tops for their tech game here and tech service is stellar. There is good solid use of external platforms. You will learn a lot about and use many different systems and softwares so you will learn many things about technologies and grow your experience here. Even as the workers you are putting in a about a 2:3 ratio of data input:client contact which is very high for the sector as well, most are 1:3 on average. The benefit of this is you can learn a lot of programs and data entries and even formal writing reports and if you move to other jobs it is a lot easier there. I would give the company a 7 or an 8 out of 10 it’s hard to say. They are good and also not very warm and always very hectic is the feeling but that could just be my own preference for a job. Overall good job. 

I love working for PLEA. The work is meaningful, challenging and everyone is working towards the same goal - supporting the people we serve. The working environment is fair, inclusive and fun. We have some challenges, just like all organizations, and we take meaningful steps to resolve them. The people are good, we have high satisfaction scores and have done for many years (from staff, participants, and other stakeholders) and are well known in the sector for providing very good care and support to those who need help the most. I wouldn’t want to do this work anywhere else.

Caring dedicated agency that aims to provide the best care possible why always looking after the wellbeing of all staff. Continuous opportunities for advancement and a career in the agency.

The sector is stressful and there can be challenging days that are part of the programs.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The best positive rewarding work environment within the sector.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy but rewarding to be a part of a collective whole striving to do the best work possible.

It’s a terrible place to work. There is lots of favouritism internally.  The senior leadership team is a 2 people show (CEO & HR). They are both horrible leaders and people. Both are toxic.  Management walks on eggshells with constant anxiety from the two senior leaders. It’s time the CEO stepped down and the agency can have real leadership. The agency is judgmental, not diverse (while they claim they are) and treat their employees poorly if and when support is needed. No one wants to ask because of fear. 

By far, one of my favourite agencies to work for. Plea offers a variety of services. My family are caregivers with the agency. Therefore, I work closely one to one with some youth from a variety of programs from employment to detox, to supported recovery. I have gained so much experience and knowledge from working for this agency. I learned how to properly case manage, write reports, and learn about a variety of programs and resources that are available in the community.

This was a great summer job opportunity for me to get experience and training in my field. I was able to create meaningful, collaborative with both the team and my case load. The best part of the job was seeing the impact I had on the youth when I had finished my summer hours (summer student position). The hardest part was learning how to detach or "turn off" from my shifts and the heavy emotions and experiences I had throughout my shifts with the youth.

PLEA is a great place to work! We foster a positive team culture and endure to provide  creative and innovative programming for youth and families! Creative, challenging, flexible and engaging work. What speaks volumes is the number of staff and management that have been with the organization for such a long time! We are lucky to hire and retain the best and most qualified staff. I wouldn’t want to do this work anywhere else!

PLEA provides opportunities for growth and development as they offer mentorship program, job shadowing, lots of training (including Education and Training fund) and coaching. MPP, health benefits, team days, agency-wide events and wellness resources are worth mentioning. Could be a great stepping stone if you just are starting your career in social services.

A great organization that cares about the community and it's staff. Lots of great benefits, good and kind people, excellent opportunity to gain experience and expand your skills. 

This is a great agency for people getting started in social work or development. You can grow your skills here, get mentored and rewarded for hard work.
