The first and most important question asked during the interview as "who do you know?". They don't mean this in a mean way, but rather in a indirect way of measuring your ability to influence retailers, restaurant owners, etc. to switch from a major supplier like Sysco or GFS based on your relationships with operators. The company doesn't actually have to provide any value to the operators and because of your pre-existing relationship with the operators, it's your reputation and relationship with operators that suffers when the company shorts or fails to deliver. 
Pay is touted as competitive with base ranging from $45K - $65K and up to 1.3% of gross sales after reaching baseline, paid quarterly. After about a year on the job, the average rep is able to clear about $1K pre-tax in commission a month, some months better than others. 

Car allowance $400 and gas card $150 a month are far too low to do the job reasonably considering the expectation of regular client visits. You will blow through 500 + km a week in most territories roughly $70 a week in gas for a fuel efficient car like a Civic or Tercel and closer to $150 for rural territories (4 x $150 = $600) while CRA rates are $0.64 km (after first 5K) so monthly mileage of 2K = $1280. Lord help you if you drive a guzzler or truck.

Like all territory manager roles, there is an expectation of being on call, especially Sundays when many operators call reps to squeeze deals or have problems with their online portal. A/R collection is part of the job so ensuring operators are well under their credit limit can be challenge especially if they want to place a large protein order and you haven't cleared your monthly sales quota.

Not at all a good place to work. Abusive supervisory staff and co-workers, management turns a blind eye to this and will not address it.

Promised raises and benefits are not given - work expectations are unreasonable and well beyond the scope of one's job title.  Salary is not commensurate with work expectations.  Unaddressed, hazardous conditions exist in workplace.

Unrealistic job expectations that place employees under a great deal of stress and have contributed to workplace fisticuffs between employees.

Mandatory, excessive overtime that leaves employees burned out and overtired in the workplace - more unwanted stress.

Expect false promises and no follow through. No career advancement, no future.

A typical day was picking orders for customers and restaurants across Saskatchewan. I've learned how to build an order to ship, how to drive a pallet jack and a forklift and how to ship and receive. Management was good all the managers were nice people. My co-workers were nice and fun to work with. Hardest part of the job was making sure you build a pallet correctly for shipping and in a fashionable time. The most enjoyable part was working with great people.

I worked here briefly, and was looking for a new job almost immediately.  The head office staff was horrible.  You'd find one online shopping all day, another wandering around talking about her personal life all day then complaining she had to work late because she was so busy, another was a family member....she got away with tons.  Everyone looks unhappy and glum and are unfriendly.  I would never recommend this place again.  I was so happy to flee.

I’ve been here for 6 years, despite the industry being hit by fallen economy, pandemic etc, this company has stepped up for employees at every turn.  As a broad line distributor this company is smaller than the competition but deliver the same quality of service to the end user making them sought after on the markets they serve.

Communication was clear and timely throughout the entire process, and the quality of their work/service exceeded my expectations. It’s rare to find a company so committed to excellence. Been there for just over a year. Love working for a Canadian owned and operated food service company. The support team and ownership has been very supportive and the work life balance  and compensation are fair. I'm glad I made the change from their American competitor.  

Very low class people from president to management.  Every second word is a swear.  They pay their employees poorly.  Do not cover minimal working expenses.  Do not pay mileage for reps, hold back pay and commissions.  Horrible company.  President drives fancy cars and his employees can barely afford to the cost of living!  Stay away!!!!!!!

Expanding company which is growing much faster than it can handle in the area. 10 hour average days, $20/hr starting wage. Bonuses revoked with new pay structure.
