PRIMARY CARE NETWORK

A typical day at work consists of retrieving patient referrals, entering referrals into database, contacting patients, coordinating and booking appointments, mental health administrative responsibilities and other admin tasks such as: filing, managing database, faxing, ordering mental health resources, management of patient files and coordinating the exercise group. Because of the decentralized plan of integration here at Edmonton South PCN the position of Mental Health Intake Coordinator has changed drastically and really the position no longer exists. The clinics are now booking the appointment and Intake has few. The hardest part of my job has been this transition. I really enjoy customer care with patients, being the first encounter for the patient and this transition out of the Intake role has been an adjustment. Being in contact with patient care and satisfaction was the most enjoyable part of the job.
Being at the Primary Care Network I have learned about multidisciplinary care, what resources and courses the Primary Care Network provides and what resources are out there for people in our community looking for a little extra support.
The environment with my co-workers, managers and staff has been absolutely wonderful. The whole team works well as a team and the environment is supportive, growth orientated and very comfortable to work in.

This organization continues to plummet.  The leadership is disconnected, unskilled, and lacks any true healthcare expertise.  Poor decisions continue to be made which affects the staff, not the Directors, thus there's constantly an exodus of people frustrated and angry at how their treated and the abysmal corporate culture.  Spending is frivolous and non-sensible, taxpayers would be furious if they knew what this "not-for-profit" organization was spending on. HR Director is a bully and Clinic Director is completely incompetent, both frequently resort to lying.  All the Directors need to be removed if this organization has a chance to succeed.  Never join this team, it's a poor choice.

The PCN was a great place to work full time while I was in between schooling. The team was wonderful and supportive and we often went to the gym at lunch or went for walks together. However, there was an ever-increasing amount of work without proper distribution of tasks so workloads increased but the number of staff did not. There was also high staff turnover which affected our teamwork and morale. Overall I would recommend working at the PCN especially because of job flexibility, good pay, and good experience for someone interested in working in the healthcare industry.

The changes to policies and procedures are constant. You don't have time to get comfortable with one way of doing things and then they are switching it up on you again. Plus there is never any room for internal movement within the company. Managers etc.  are always hired externally and they do nothing to promote growth within their own staff. All of this means means employees start to feel stuck. Very much a learned sense of helplessness amongst staff "why bother trying, it will all change in a month anyway".

I like the company and although I am just temping there right now as a receptionist, I would like to pursue with the company as an MOA, or both reception and MOA permanent if given an opportunity.
There is room for growth in the company as they have alot of branches all over the city.
I am learning alot of new things everyday about the docotors, about different ways to use their system, all sort of patients, and more so I love what I am doing.

An okay company if the management is good. Went through an Executive Director change to a manager that was toxic. Based every little thing on friends, mind games & lies. No confidentiality between you and what you told management. Entire staff would know. 
Staff was awesome. Great work place environment. Clients truly came first.Great support among fellow counsellors.

Wonderful place to work and to call home. Great staff who work amazingly as a team. The managers are all willing to listen and to work with you. It became a family atmosphere and the patients were able to see this and to feel it when they came into our building. I would work there again.

All staff is very friendly and helpful. 
Management understands life can become difficult and know that work can be missed due emergencies. Strong communication skills with thier staff. 

Referral Coordinator for 4 Prenatal Clinics.  Office Administration and Reception.  Coordinated all Referrals, Booked Appointments, Weekly Statistics and Confirmed Appointments as well.
