PRINCE OF WALES HOTEL

After working here briefly I am absolutely stunned that this place is still operating. From the dorms to the hotel itself the company that owns this location (Glacier Park Inc) clearly does not care at all about the hotel. The training was minimal to none, and all returning staff would constantly warn about "how much worse" the staff and overall experience has been. 

During my time there I came to be informed that there is mold in multiple places in the hotel, and the kitchen was even shut down due to cleanliness. 

The management acts like a high school clique, that will throw anyone under the bus that suits them. 

I was terminated due to a bad TripAdvisor review, and then told lies regarding coaching I never received.

If I could pass on any words of advice, it would be to avoid this place at all costs. I googled extensively before taking this job, and had I found a review like this it would have changed my decision drastically.

Don't waste your time with this place!

I took this job with such high hopes, I was excited all winter to get there and experience it, what a let down.

I am familiar with the area and park as I have worked for a different but similar establishment in the past. I took on a food & beverage position at the PoW because I thought it was a better place to work.

The dorm style living hasn't been updated, simply put it's gross. I'd say about thirty 20 year olds living in a house. If you're a mature adult, don't even think about it. I came home to my room after a very long and stressful day to a drunk girl sleeping all cozy in my bed, I slept in my car that night. The General Managers response? "It happens, she's a nice girl". Pardon me? The place is a constant display of coming of age freedom. 

The disorganized chaos provides a very rough settle into the very short season this place provides. The FoH managers, especially the bar manager, simply aren't pleasant and difficult to work with, my way or the highway types, zero compromise. But hey, they do feed you well.

After a month working here I packed up and left, and have quite happily returned to my old job in the park.

If you're looking for a summertime between school job, it's a good option if working in the restaurant, the other positions pay poorly considering it's a remote location.
You have to track your hours, in Alberta it's OT after 8 hours work in a day, this company will move your OT onto another day to avoid paying it, so do not work OT. Also tips are on the pay, it will be taxed, and you have to provide your own float with no bank in town, bring money with you to avoid ATMs.
My co-workers were great, but if living onsite you're gambling on decent coworkers. The dorms are very old, and neither the hotel nor dorms have AC, it gets hot. Also they haven't put money into the staff accommodations for a long time it seems, so it's a bit rough.
The job can be fun, the tip money can be really good for bellman and restaurant, its good for one season, just watch out for the pay issues. 
The meals are terrible.

A  good place to work if you like to suck up to management. Management treats servers all differently. If they don’t like you, they treat you terrible. And it’s noticed by many. I had a manager degrade me and expected the other employees to go along with it.  Also a lot of the workers that have been there awhile get all the good shifts and they treat new people terrible as well. 
Management comes to tables with you when learning and tell them your learning and to give them a break. It’s embarrassing. Management also talks about servers to the servers they like. A place where you feel uncomfortable most of the day. Eg. A manager will hug a server good morning, then not even say hello to others. Just a terrible experience for me and many others that left there. 

It was such an honour to have been able to work at the Prince of Wales Hotel for the summer. Such a variety of limitless activities to do in the national park while working at such an historical hotel. They are only seasonal though, but it's definitely worth the experience to work there. You live near the hotel as well in a dorm-style cabin with your co-workers; 1 room of 2 coworkers (can be of different jobs too!), but the bedrooms are not separated. It's the very very old style of dorm-living, kind of like camp. The hotel sits right on top of a hill where you see straight down the valley of moutains. A truly beautiful place to work at.

Working at the PoW was an amazing experience. The staff, regardless of department were genuinely caring and helpful to each other. Your managers actually care about you and are truthfully down to earth. They try their best to balance your work life and personal life. Fast paced work environment while being very relaxed. LOTS of benefits. The only issue is pay. It is a luxury hotel they should be paying at least living wage to entice staff to continue to provide luxury experiences to guests.

A typical day can range from being very busy, when tour busses arrive. Also from being slow and quiet sometimes.  However the staff were very friendly and were always willing to help each other out.  I enjoyed this job because I would get to meet people from all over the world.  My boss would was very helpful in informing on what areas I can improve on, or if I was doing a good job.

Do not work here for breakfast or lunch unless you absolutely can't find a job elsewhere.  You are deducted 30 minutes for break when you work 5 hours even when you don't get a break and it happens very often.  Poor management and kitchen staff is not friendly.  The break room is all the way downstairs in a separate building.  Lunch is free but it's usually cold or gone because you wouldn't have time to get there on time

Most support you would bet it’s from managers working the hotel . Head office located in Montana is not helpful at all , they don’t have solutions to problems and when you work over time because there is no employees their solution is oh well that’s seasonal work .  Your co workers are the biggest help you gonna get there so better make sure you have good relationships

Coworkers and the location are two positives. Too much in-fighting amongst managers who showed favoritism to some staff members. Staff accommodations need serious renovations. All tips go on your paycheck which means you lose about 80% of them to taxes. Staff food made a lot of people with dietary requirements sick. A lot of it was inedible.
