Serious leadership, safety, and training failures — applicants should be cautious
The work itself can be meaningful, but my experience with this organization raised serious concerns about leadership, safety, and basic standards of care.
Management in my program was characterized by micromanagement, poor communication, emotional reactivity, and constantly changing expectations. What was acceptable one day would be criticized the next. Staff were routinely left second-guessing routine tasks and felt pressure rather than support. The environment was tense, unpredictable, and emotionally draining, contributing to low morale and burnout.
More concerning were food safety failures. FoodSafe standards were not consistently followed and did not appear to be enforced. I personally witnessed unsafe food handling practices, including raw chicken being left unrefrigerated for an extended period and later served to a client. These are not minor issues — they are clear safety risks.
This raises a serious question about training and accountability. In my own role, I was expected to prepare food but was not provided with FoodSafe training. If staff are responsible for meal preparation without proper training or oversight, the risk is placed directly on vulnerable clients.
There were also ongoing communication breakdowns among staff. Language barriers and lack of clear communication led to misunderstandings, incomplete information sharing, and operational confusion. In a support environment, this is not just inconvenient — it creates safety risks.
Overall, while the mission may look good on paper, the reality was a poorly supported workplace with inconsistent leadership, inadequate training, and preventable safety concerns. I would strongly advise applicants to ask direct questions about management style, FoodSafe training requirements, staff communication standards, and how safety concerns are actually handled.
I am sharing this so prospective employees can make an informed decision before accepting a role that involves responsibility for vulnerable individuals.

Working with clients and amazing frontline staff.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
A lack of competent leadership and meaningful support from upper management. There was a clear disconnect between leadership decisions and the realities of frontline work, including hiring underqualified staff and failing to provide adequate training or resources.

Staff were placed in high-risk situations without proper support, and raising concerns around client safety or operational issues did not lead to resolution. This created a culture where speaking up felt discouraged, and contributed significantly to stress and burnout.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment was stressful and, at times, lacked transparency and accountability from upper management. There was a consistent misalignment between what was communicated and how decisions were implemented, which affected trust and overall team cohesion.

The culture did not consistently support openness or staff advocacy, making it difficult to raise legitimate concerns without fear of negative consequences. This created an environment of uncertainty and low morale.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Day-to-day work with clients in the home was the most positive and fulfilling part of the job. Supporting individuals and building relationships made the role worthwhile.

The environment shifted when upper management became involved, as there was often inconsistency, lack of support, and unclear direction. This created unnecessary stress and impacted the ability to provide stable, effective support.

When a resource is short staffed and struggling to provide the bare minimum of agreed upon service delivery to already supported individuals, it is both irresponsible and harmful to take on more individuals and open more resources. That is exactly what this company has been doing.

Real harm frequently occurs at local resources - harms you can't take back and that people carry with them. Medication errors are frequent, highly invasive personal care is administered without consent or proper training, nutritional planning consists of bland meals or processed/fast food.  Activity planning becomes non existent because staff don't know how to implement it safely, or can't because there aren't enough staff. Individuals get understandable anger and frustration that isn't properly attended or respected. Untrained staff do not have the tools to respond in a meaningful way and inadvertently damage the trusting relationship. High turnover occurs in an endless cycle mainly due to these conditions. 

If PCCRI owners could commit to ensuring a resource is stable and properly staffed with qualified candidates before taking on more work, this company could do incredible things. As it stands, the expansion of resources during crisis gives the impression of greed. No one with strong ethics stays long when the resources needed to provide support and safety are knowingly taken away whenever it suits the company. Person-centered care is not possible in this model and it does not reflect the values this company goes through great efforts to convey through their PR messaging.


Stuck with this company and was told ‘you could grow and move around in the comapny’, I had asked about other programs and was ignored. I had asked about a raise as everyone working there had asked. I did my job to the best of my ability, I done tasks at hand that was asked of me. I was promoted to assistant manager, once in that position, I had another 6 months of a probationary period to which they let me go after 3 months into that position. I was lied to that my job was secured and got let go 3 days later.  I was told to not have a sense of humour, i was not allowed to joke with other staff as everyone was highly sensitive. The client was hard enough to support and you had to deal with staff. Constantly walking on eggshells, afraid to breathe wrong. Full of drama and toxicity, mostly from staff. No one would come to you as adults of what was bothering staff they would just run to the higher ups. When I asked what was the reason they said I wasn’t a good fit for the position. I asked in what way, they could not give me an answer. I never got written up or handed a letter they just sent me packing after working there the past 6 months with no cause. I wouldn’t recommend working here. The work I isn’t worth the pay. We asked, as staff,  for months to get our pay increased instead they put adds out with the new wage increase instead of accommodating current staff. They don’t care about the care and well being of the client, it’s clear they care more about lining their pockets. I was unheard, belittled and patronized by the higher ups and some of the staff. 

A typical workday involved arriving, reviewing medications, and attending to the clients' needs by administering medication and providing meals at the designated times. The environment was highly structured and well-organized, fostering an atmosphere of cooperation and prosperity that allowed both staff and clients to thrive, even in overwhelming circumstances. Through this experience, I gained a profound sense of compassion and developed the ability to function effectively within a team where I felt my contributions were valued.

While the workplace could occasionally become hectic due to unpredictable situations, a strong and competent team was always present to manage and resolve any emerging issues efficiently. The most challenging aspect of the job, for me personally, was leaving—a testament to the passion I developed and the sense of belonging I felt within this role. The most rewarding part of my experience was being part of the positive impact made daily, which stands out as a significant and fulfilling aspect of my professional journey.



If you are looking for a supportive workplace culture that values your healthcare experience, you will not find it here. The leadership and HR teams operate with rigid, outdated bureaucracy rather than evaluating their staff on professional merit.

​Despite bringing extensive clinical experience to the table for a front-line support role, management completely refused to negotiate a fair wage within their own advertised pay grid. Instead, their hiring policy demands that you hand over your current pay stubs (even if they are from an entirely unrelated working environment) just to "match" your wage and keep you at the absolute bottom of their pay scale.

​An organization that uses lazy loopholes to suppress wages and refuses to independently evaluate your clinical skills before you even start is a massive red flag for how they will treat you on the floor. I declined an offer here and highly suggest other experienced healthcare professionals look elsewhere.

Working at Panorama House since it opened has been very rewarding career choice. Recently there has been some very positive management changes creating a more process oriented, supportive work environment. The Team is great, friendly and helpful. There is an abundance of support from in-house management in training and education, processes and policy surrounding the individuals served creating a safe and positive environment. I enjoy going to work every day, sincerely I do. I am recognized for my hard work and am very happy with my job.

The company itself is one that sends you birthday and Christmas cards in the mail, making you feel cared about and appreciated. Family owned and operated, PCCRIs philosophies on dignity, respect and quality of life for those persons served align with my own on a very personal level. I have found working here to be extremely valuable and worth while. 

I was currently working in this field as a personal contract and accepted this program with open arms. Excellent Supervisor T at the time, was willing to create a diverse program with many road blocks that had to be overcome. Great people (most) to work with at head office and IT team was superior in solving issues. Moved to different areas of program in a spread of 15 plus years leaving the society then rejoining. Had some struggles with multi-funding stakeholders to be on the same page but over time was able to resolve. Lots of education available and team building offered by head office. Great amount of professional contacts that worked in conjunction with specific mental health and harm reduction programs. 
 

This company is extremely unorganized, they do not care about their staff and treat them as if they're disposable, no recognition or appreciation for staff, wages are supposed to be based on hours but management gives certain staff raises when staff does not meet the hours they are supposed to which is a violation of union rules, they are extremely understaffed and leave staff in UNSAFE conditions with NO supervision and with multiple high-risk individuals at a time. When management is called for support there is always an excuse as to why they can't be there. This is an overall toxic environment and horrible for one's mental health. I quit because it did not align with my values. I would never recommend this place to someone I know.

This company’s upper management is nothing short of disappointing. The so-called leadership — often referred to as the “youth area manager” — consistently backs incompetent managers who speak down to both employees and clients. Instead of addressing issues professionally, they resort to fear tactics and manipulation to maintain control, creating a toxic and demoralizing work environment. Concerns are ignored, accountability is nonexistent, and anyone who speaks up is treated as a threat rather than a valued team member. This is not leadership — it’s a clear failure to foster a respectful, ethical, and supportive workplace.
