Typical day at work (Scarborough "Toronto Office")

- Usually informed the night before around 6-11pm, of where you will be for the week. (if your out of town usually 1-5 days notice depends who calls you, no really it depends on who calls you first...)

Option 1 (To Those Who Have Worked Here, You Know What I Mean)
- Onsite depending on who sold the job (proven track record by the way). "no map (find one - usually have to ask client), no material list (usually have to ask 3-4 people since the "Person" is unreachable unless they get CC'd on an email"), no complete Scope (common... seeing my point?), no address just a name of the company and city (if the company own more then 1 building in the city have fun..) - O How I WISH that I'm joking about this...      
- Then you do what you can for the day and hope to God you finish the deadline and hope to God you make profit in the job and not get blamed for it if there is no profit made, OR you will do a Great Job! and someone else will take the credit for it no thanks, no great job, no nothing..

OR!

Option 2 (You Know Who You Are)
- Onsite depending on who sold the job "A Real Map, Full Scope, A Real Material list, A Real full information of client and address Plus Site Contact all UPDATED!" 
- Depends on which "LEAD TECH" runs the site you will be used for what you are hired for or you will be picking up garbage and cleaning on the site, doing the heavy lifting, etc...
- Then go home when you do your 8 - 12 hours
- Do a great job and you will be mentioned on the emails as these people appreciate you.   


What I've Learned.
- A lot of company meetings of "Great Change Coming - When?"
- Don't Bother speaking with Management as majority don't listen or don't know, or puts a blind eye on the problem (3rd one happens a lot). 
- Don't "Help" Sales with their JOBSs (Note the more than 1,2,3,4, etc..) as they take all the credit for the corrected problems that Onsite Techs solve, and if they are not solved Techs on the field are thrown under the bus for it. (EVEN IF! It wasn't their fault for being sent to a job already designed to fail).
- Don't "Help" Project Managers as they need to do their job coordinating with sales and the client as its not how the chain of command works (and no there are 2-3 that are good).
- Don't "Help" The Scheduler (1st one) on giving advice assigning people for jobs as they should know what techs are capable of what system/skills (they have management there in the office with resumes on file to check tech capabilities).
- Don't Bother! Writing your yearly self assessments as they don't do reviews or avoid them, or always making excuse of why they haven't been done (even if its in your contract), or changing dates or "forgetting" them all together, hoping you don't remind them.
- Don't Bother working hard for specific people (you can see them a mile away) as they will take all the credit and even tell clients of their achievements when the client sees who's really been onsite working hard on the company's behalf. 

Management
- Aside from 3-4 people, what management? you mean the BC office? but they can't help you here. 
- A lot of people with titles that have no idea what the industry standards are to a function of a door/alarm work. (don't waste your breath)

Workplace Culture    
- A lot of this "TEAM" talk, but really.. there are teams, and if your not in a team your getting the dead end jobs that noone wants to go to. 
- A lot of favoritism, don't bother trying to speak up.. If you DO, you won't last long in this company even if you are "trying" to help, because you care.   
- HIGH! turn over rate in this office, if your not a "TEAM" player. 

Hard Part In this Job
- You can't have a life if you work in this office location, so say goodbye to your family and friends.
- Trying to help people that don't want to change. 
- Trying to be a team player and not get any credit
- Trying to actually care just to be kicked down, again and again.
- Just trying for this Office not even company because Head Office is awesome sadly they are all the way in BC.  

Most Enjoyable Part of this Job 
- Talking to people at the BC that Has/Have their head on their neck that's why that location "Has/Have" the best reviews on this site 
- I'd say 5 - 6 people at the most out of the 30-40+ Techs and 3 people in  the 10+ people in Office. (Ofcourse this number can change, as this year will make or break people #thankstocovid #learnhowtotreatyouremployeeswhileinhardtimes)

What is the best part of working at the company?
For me, it's  the opportunities.   If you are driven and have a hunger for advancement and progression throughout the company, Paladin has an incredible system that, not only provides the training necessary, but most importantly the resources and management to get you where you want to be.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
In my opinion, being in a position where you are not trained and or have experience in.  Many people take an opportunity that is given to them without analyzing their own skill set and capabilities.   Technically, if you are not  ready and or have any experience in a role you have agreed to partake, it can be extremely stressful.  That being said, Management are fantastic at helping alleviate your stress  by making resources and assistance available to you.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
From my experience, being in the service department as well as P3 projects (Installations), you will quickly feel a part of the family.  Many seniors that I have worked with are content with the atmosphere and culture, which make it difficult to leave.


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
During my days at service department,  a typical day includes driving to site or office (if you need to pickup equipment) and typically you'll have 4 time slots filled with service.  Some days you will finish the 4 time slots quick and can take on more calls and at times you'll end up completing less than 4.  All depends what you are dealing with.  The important thing is, the dispatch department is absolutely amazing and accommodates your days  accordingly.

The only good thing about this company is the experience you gain from working with multiple systems in any environment you've assigned to.

Management needs to get a grip and start listening to their employees while they're busy taking up million dollar contracts. Project Managers are often hounded with sites and have to push and pull techs from the service coordinators because they have no choice.

Management gives preferences to employees that they "like". It is an extremely biased environment. Issuing complaints is often rebuked with, "well have you tried talking to them and explaining the situation?" Going to HR doesn't help, or barely helps. It's always a chain of command, and often is compared to playing broken telephone, unless you're injured on the job.

Company reviews take forever. I have not had my three month review. I have not had my yearly review. I have handed in my review work twice to three times, only to find from coworkers that management was wandering around asking other technicians I'd never worked with how my work ethic was, looking for anything to justify that I would not be receiving a pay raise / new position within the company. They then stated they would get to them later on in the year. It's been months.

This company needs to learn that the field employees drive the results, and that by limiting their people, they are limiting their results, making their people feel worthless. The only good thing about this company are the employees out in the field doing good work and willing to train you. Management needs to do better.

The techs you work with are good people, management on the other hand are selective, and play favorites. They make false claims and promises and will back pedal.

Great onboarding presentation though.

No uniform - "only after 3 months"
Tells you they will teach you but leaves you at clueless in dumpster fire contracts pulling cable.
Terrible Mileage compensation - "0.52 per km after the first stop or anything past abbotsford" FYI, as of 2021, the compensation is 0.59
No allowances for PPE or Hand tools. Trying to get equipment is like pulling teeth.
Boasts about Company culture however only applies to Office staff or select few in the field.
Last minute schedule changes, or no schedule at all which can be annoying
Expects you to be glued to company phone.

A lot of people are unhappy at this company location and from observations, stems from management lack of leadership.



They treat there technicians terribly and the pay is very low and in turn they dont care about quality of work which cause jobs to be done 3 or 4 times. Management doesn't properly provide expectations so everyone can work as a cohesive team and excel. There is finger pointing around the office and blaming from the managing director who acts like a little child and enjoys the drama between employees....This is apparent and known within the industry which causes difficult working relationships within the company and with ongoing high profile projects. 

I currently work at Paladin in our Victoria Operations Center. This is a fast paced job which I love as it means you rarely have nothing to do and makes the day fly by. There is many different avenues to take to move up into either to a Team Lead, Supervisor, Tech Support, or Training position, however being an operator is a great job all in itself. There is plenty of OT offered on a regular basis. Being a 24/7 company there are many different shift options and once on a shift it is steady (no more shift work). The Management in the Operations Center is amazing and always there to help any employee when needed.

The culture here is for upper management to get what ever they can out of an employee and when the employees want something it’s a solid NO. As a tech working in the field here it doesn’t matter if you’ve been here 10 years or 1 week you are not valued,your opinion doesn’t matter, and you’re considered easily replaced. There is no room for advancement and getting a raise is like pulling teeth. Thankfully I have left this company( after  almost 15 years)   I wasn’t asked why I left or given an exit interview. This place is somewhere you should run from not to. 

If you can avoid working here do it. why?
Job title was emergency alarm Monitoring 

500 alarms a day
30 minute break on 8 hrs 
back to back calls / 4 workers per shift / will not call in overtime unless under 4 and this is to cover emergency calls for BC/ EDMONTON/CALGARY
Your back will hurt from the mouse repetition 
You will have to ask publicly in a chat to go to the bathroom and only can go if not busy. The pay is mediocre for the stress you will endure 


You will not advance and will watch other staff take company trips and incentives. Maybe if you become besties with the lifers catch my drift :)

I had a great experience working for Paladin. There are a lot of great people working there. I have created many friendships that will last a lifetime. Moving from Alberta to BC, they were very accommodating and gave me a warm welcome when I arrived. They helped with accommodations and getting me situated in a new city. 

I would definitely recommend working with Paladin to anyone who is looking to join a growing team. 

I have recently moved back to Alberta and wish all the best to the Paladin team moving forward.
