- A typical day at work could be anything. If you're supposed to have a cushy, indoor site, a driver might bring you to the site and say, "OK, for this shift you patrol the grounds for the entire 8 hr shift, except for ONE 30 min break." "But I was told I'd be working inside! I certainly don't have the outerwear for this -35 deg weather." "Well, that's not my problem; these are your site orders, and there's nothing I can do about it."

- I learned never to trust anybody EVER. Trust me - if it sounds too good to be true, get it in writing.

- The managers got worse and worse during my tenure; it came to a point where the head manager would say one thing to us (guards); something totally different to the client; and if it ever came to a head, the managers would act like they had no idea what the guards were talking about

- I rarely saw co-workers (i.e. - other guards); but when I did (say, if a large construction site needed 3 guards to cover the whole site at night), the other guards tended to not give a d**n; I heard many, MANY complaints from our clients, but that's third hand info, so I won't repeat it.

- The hardest part of the job would be everything from getting proper site orders, to having management yell at you, to have you working as a bouncer (and fully expecting you to physically kick out 6 drunk, violent, angry men... by yourself)

- The most enjoyable part of my job was the first week. I worked at 3 different sites that first week, and all of the managers at the sites called Palisade to ask if I could be placed at their site **on a permanent basis**. For this, I was awarded "Employee of the Month".

[Of course, when I left there they were penny pinching like Ebeneezer Scrooge. All of the awards/accolades were halted; they refused to have the mobile unit's cars fixed; they would fire somebody from a 3 person group [say, Dispatch], and not hire a replacement, which, of course, led to 2 people doing 3 jobs, or all of the people in the department doing the work of 1.5 people. Naturally, this frustrated the workers, and since dirt rolls downhill, the guards felt the wrath of the remaining workers in each "group".]

Stressful work environment due to a constant fluctuation on the operation and management level. Difficulties in disciplinary procedure for regular guard staff. Poor to average wage rates with little to no room for advancement. Little to no advanced training after initial shift training

Dependable shift schedules. Decent to above average equipment supplied to working staff and mobile fleet. Company is innovated attempting to use technology for more of its reporting and as an easier method for clients review of activities occurring on their sites.

The management I dealt with was always reasonable and accommodating. Everything I asked for in terms of direct work was answered to the best of their ability

Unfortunately, that ability was severely hampered by the fact that they were very cheap in terms of both wages and in terms of getting and buying equipment for the job. If efforts are made to correct this issue this company could easily be one of the better companies to work for. At this point though their pay rates are one of the worst around and that affects the people that they get and worse yet the people that they can keep

As a member of the dispatch team, I was responsible for supporting and dispatching security officers, provided site training information to new employees, prepared nightly performance reports for management, and responded to client and employee inquiries.

My duties involved patrol work in Edmonton.  With this job I learned how to be a security guard. Management was decent and understanding. Everyone I worked with was also decent, I got along well with them.

I loved working for this company, this is probably the best company that I have ever worked for. The pay was stellar and the job was fun and challenging. My boss was amazing

It was fun and easy to work here. I enjoyed the staff. Just didn't; like the night shifts at the time. Other wise it was an ok place to work.

not enough jobs for this company must have own equipment and sometimes work in the cold weather environments. No pay on time either had a bad experience.
