It is rare to wake up every morning and love what you do... but here I am lucky enough to be an employee of this company for 6 years and counting. Being in the animal care industry personally my entire life and professionally for 12 years I can honestly say I have never worked for a business that truly values their employees and values their guests until I started here at Parker Pet Care! It is important to the team to be able to offer specialized, individualized care for each and every guest to ensure their vacation experiences are something they enjoy! The facility is consistently cleaned (3x daily) and ensures that each and every pet has fresh bedding and blankets that often as well! When you walk into the Lodge you don't smell 50 dogs... you smell a clean, well presented environment with dogs relaxing in their accommodations or excited to head out for their activities! I proudly speak to people about my position at Parker Pet Care and would say that almost my entire neighborhood uses the facility for daycare, lodging or grooming (sometimes all 3!) The environment is enjoyable, active, fun and friendly - my coworkers are my family and that is a very special thing to have. 

Highly recommend this facility for applicants looking for an enjoyable yet challenging role in animal care to help them grow in the industry. Parker Pet Care genuinely cares about the well-being of their animal guests. They go above and beyond to accommodate meal and medication times. It can get very busy during seasonal times, especially Christmas! As a supervisor, you could be in charge of anywhere from 30-200 dogs depending on the season and 3-20 staff. PPC Is a great place to start working with animals and gain confidence in handling skills. If you are experienced in animal care, there's a little less room to grow. Many staff move on to vet tech positions after a couple years. 

Although I loved working there, one of my pet peeves was that it felt like you never got away from your job. Management and other supervisors are always texting you on your days off to ask about dogs, cats, staff etc. 
It got to a point that hearing my phone go off would give me anxiety because it was more than likely work asking a question. 

Working holidays and weekends is mandatory, if you have a family it can be a little disappointing. I know for a fact that some of these reviews are forged by the staff at PPC. However, the horrible ones are unfair. Yes, they use bleach. But without bleach and with the number of animals they have at a time, the bleach helps sanitize their bowls and enclosures to prevent germs from spreading. It's safe and properly diluted.

Overall a good place to work if you love animals!

What is the best part of working at the company?
Working with animals was very nice, and most of the non-administerial staff were great to work with

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Very little to no communication from those in charge. Loud noises were also very stressful but that is a part of the job

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Management treats it's staff like children, often hiding pertinent information from them as well as routinely undermining their autonomy and ignoring clearly set boundries. The regular staff however we're all very chill, always willing to lend a hand when needed and we're always respectful towards each other

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day involved being given a list of animals that you would have to take out on playdates/solo activities to allow them to have the exercise they needed. These activities would last approx 15 mins, and you would do this for about 5 hours. At the end of the activities, all the animals accomodations would have to be cleaned for them so that the animals would not be left to wallow in their filth overnight. If you worked a morning shift you would clean up the accomodations first and then would do activities for 5 hours until the afternoon shift came in

I have been employed with Parker Pet Care for over 6 years, and there's nowhere else I'd rather be.  It is a joy to go into work each day and get to work alongside such a great bunch of people and get to do what I love everyday.  The team at Parker Pet Care are like a second family to me.  Each and every individual cares so much about their job and they are always making sure that each pet is loved and cared for like their own!  The management team is extremely supportive and make it their priority to make sure that everyone is happy at work.

The facility has been opened and operating since 1945, so that in itself speaks volumes!  The care routine for each pet can be modified based on their routine at home, and the business caters to every pet(young, old, special needs).  The services offered are daycare, boarding and grooming, so there are always a lot of dogs and cats to meet and love.  

If you love animals but don't have much experience with them, this is the perfect place to learn and grow within the animal care industry.  Being an animal lover is a must! :)

Management had no respect for staff. Scheduling was a nightmare, they never planned for how many dogs they'd have and would constantly call people in with 0 notice or send people home early. Supervisors made cents more than the staff they were in charge of even with their higher expectations and responsibilities, which was maybe a dollar or two more than minimum wage at most. No basic training, they would just reprimand you after you messed up instead of teaching you the right way from the start. Horrible petty attitude amongst staff. Typical catty girl cliques and people watching you intently for you to mess up so they can tattle on you instead of confronting, teaching, or even helping one another. Constant talking behind people's backs complaining about others slow work or that they cared too much about the dogs instead of just cleaning and leaving them. Dogs are basically prisoner here, some would be left in their own urine and feces for hours before being cleaned due to being understaffed or high workloads. If owners left sentimental objects like their dogs favourite blanket, there was no way they'd actually give it to the dog because other dogs would steal and destroy it.

If it weren’t for the animals and the lodge staff, it would’ve been really difficult to come to work most days. The scheduling during the time I was employed was a nightmare. Requested availability and time off was never honoured and general work schedules seemed to be made by picking names out of a hat rather than availability or practicality. There were many times that I’d request days off months in advance only to then be scheduled on those exact dates, not being able to change the shifts even after pointing the mistakes out to management. I was a student part time worker but often, took on full time shifts despite inconsistencies and inconvenience. Often, there would be times when my shifts would be called off for weeks at a time and then be expected to work for 9 days straight afterwards. It was impossible to create a healthy and balanced lifestyle outside of work because of these inconsistencies and physical demands of the job. Seasonal workers were almost never brought in to help carry the load during busy times. There was really poor communication amongst the management and the lodge staff and this caused frustrations and mistakes constantly.

Parker Pet Care is a fantastic facility that genuinely cares about it's staff's well-being and every fur baby we see come in and out. A typical day at PPC begins with the 1st sterilization of enclosures, feeding, activities and 2 more sterilizations throughout the day. 
There are always opportunities to learn about animal behaviours and medical needs, and management is fantastic about directing and answering questions as needed. The management team is very detailed and is incredible about supporting staff members throughout the workday. The hardest part about working at PPC, as with other jobs in the animal care industry, are the erratic hours and working holidays. The company runs 7 days a week, 365 days a year, so employees often work on holidays, evenings and weekends. The most enjoyable and rewarding part of working at Parker Pet Care are the fantastic animals we get to work with, and creating connections with cats and dogs that last a lifetime. Love this place!

I've worked with Parker Pet Care for only 2.5 years but the memories and friendships I have made with all the furry ones will never be forgotten. Throughout the 2.5 years, I have been on and off looking for other job opportunities to grow as an Animal Care Attendant but I always come back to Parker Pet Care because there's no other place like it. 
The work scheduling is flexible and very accommodating and to my school activities. It is a perfect job for both experienced animal handlers and those who just want to start off their animal careers. I had very little to no animal care experience before working at Parker Pet Care and was not very confident in handling dogs or cats. But now, as a Senior Animal Care Attendant, I feel like I can handle almost all dog or cat that walks through the doors. 
I learned important animal husbandry and handling skills, as well as, how to bathe dogs when it was necessary. 
My favourite part of the job is going to work and seeing familiar furry faces and remembering each one by name.

I’ve almost been working at Parker pet car for two years now and it has been one of the best experiences I could’ve asked for a first job. Being able to go into work and see all of the cutest dogs just brings a smile to my face even when it’s at 7AM!!! Everyone I work with has been feeling like a family lately, we joke around, work as a team and always get the job done. I personally think the use of bleach isn’t anything that serious, we dilute it with water making sure everything is still safe for our guests. I wouldn’t rather be doin anything else and I can see myself working here for a very long time. Another amazing thing is the flexibility with the scheduling and amazing staff that can usually swap shifts with you if you have anything that comes up last minute. Overall amazing place our animals care and safety always comes first and is definitely and environment I am happy to be in.

I've been with Parker's for several months and have loved every moment of it! Getting to watch the dogs grow and play is one of the most rewarding things in the world. The benefits are incredible, not only medical but multiple other perks such as daycare for your pets, discounted grooming and lodging and lots of room to move forward in the company! The management is absolutely wonderful, the Parker's and all the staff work so hard to make sure both locations have everything any pet could possibly need! There is a reason they've been around since 1945! Getting the opportunity to be trained in the office as well as in the lodge was a great experience, learning how hard the girls in the back work to make sure every pets stay is the best it can be was very beneficial. The girls here have taught me more than I could have ever imagined about animals and I will forever be grateful to the Parker's for allowing me to join the team!
