Parkwood Institute

I enjoyed working with my colleagues.  We all worked well together lending a helping hand when needed.  I was lucky enough to be placed into the Unit Lead role which was new and exciting and I was always informed by my colleagues and other staff members that I was doing a wonderful job and that it was the first time in a long time that our floor/unit was organized and functional. I was a super user for the WOW units, computer assistant to my co-workers, advocate for our Veteran's as being Demented they lost out in a lot of programs and menu items.  The hardest part of my position was not be a receiver of unpredictable responsive behaviors d/t their dementia.
The most enjoyable part of the job was watching the residents participate in the programs - laughing, dancing with staff, singing, etc.
I do also like to be part of the end of life portion of my job, providing support for the family and providing comfort for the resident.

Position allows for a great deal of resident interaction. A majority of my mornings are spent touching base with resident's and their family members to trouble shoot or prevent issues from arising with the resident's care.
Most afternoons are spent in meeting that review resident care, falls preventions, and other aspects of the program.
As part of a interdisciplinary team, it is great to be able to turn to other members to gain their knowledge and expertise so that the who;e person's needs are addressed rather than just the physical or mental needs individually.

I enjoyed, 12 Hour days (continental) on my feet. 45 minute meal services. 3 half hour breaks.

Enjoyed working for a large corporation and the benefits they offered.

You are not allowed to have an availability but that’s ok because the schedule comes out six weeks in advance and you can always switch shifts with people. You won’t be scheduled many shifts but if you are willing to be called into work at 530am you can very easily get full time hours. Very fast paced and can be stressful, but once you get the hang of it, you’re good. About 95% of my fellow coworkers were a delight to work with

I enjoy working in the Environmental Service Dept because i always walk away at the end of each day satisfied by keeping the homes of our war Vets clean and hearing their stories . Working here has made me a better person in ways of respecting and understanding what it's like to HELP....if you will in a word. Satisfaction is a wonderful thing by helping people that need it.

Since starting at Parkwood institute in June I have felt extremely welcomed and supported by all of the staff on my floor. As a new grad from the practical nursing program I wouldn’t want my first nursing job to have been anywhere else. The work environment is very friendly and the hours are great. I would strongly recommend applying to work here if you haven’t already! 

P*arkwood is the most Toxic place I have encountered. People stab you in the back and just LOOK at ways to get offended. It is also very Hostile. The design of the place is cold and inhospitable. It is very gloomy.

The WORST place to work, ever.

My experience working at Parkwood was great, I learned new things and met new people. It really set me up for future success With my social skills, personal skills, and team skills I will need to use within other company’s I wish to work in.

Staff at the fitness centre were very friendly, took time to train and cultivate skills in the volunteers. Very flexible in terms of time commitment, understanding if I was unable to make it a particular day due to school workload, etc.

Parkwood is a great place to work at. It offers opportunity for further education and expansion of skills. Staff are friendly and supportive of each other. Management is understanding and approachable  by staff when issues arise.
