It's a very easy-going job that has lots of customer interaction, both commercial and retail. Most employees have lots of automotive knowledge however those with the most knowledge and experience tend to be the first to leave into the automotive field due to the little pay. Working there is fun great people and very little work drama. The head managers have very little automotive knowledge and are mainly focused on the retail aspect of the store which has resulted in reduced commercial customer volume. The biggest downside is the large amount of customer phone calls in the store for simple questions. This is due to the fact that PartSource's website lacks the information of part stock or information resulting in customers phoning the store to get that information which causes an inconvenience to any customers in the store needing help or commercial customers trying to place orders. If the website was more like Canadian Tire's where you can look up the product before coming to the store it would run 100 times more efficiently. This isn't considered an annoyance rather than an inconvenience to customers waiting to purchase a product. Other than that I feel it's a great start if you want to get into the automotive trade but not ready to be an apprentice yet or if you're in college wanting a job to pay off schooling.

My experience with PartSource over a 5 year period was generally very good. Like with all corporate companies, it's going to be dependent on what store you work for. I personally had one of the best managers the company ever had in it's history, but not everyone will be so lucky. Just be on your toes when meeting with the managers, as to how they act and talk about enforcement of company policy. The store I worked for had a team of people that eventually felt like family, and our manager took extremely good care of us. In turn we always gave 110% out of respect and not fear. The job itself is very easy once you get the hang of it, but there is a learning curve to it and experience in the automotive field does help a lot. I had left and returned at one point, because no other position I'd found had that familiarity and family feel to it.

A typical day at work involved putting stock away, answering phone calls from customers and commercial accounts, typical cashier duties, researching parts locations from 3rd party vendors, sales reconciliation at the end of the day. Partsource taught me many useful things about maintenance of vehicles and about many related products available. The store manager failed to teach me anything, and was very unapproachable. The owner and assistant manager, however, were always happy to answer my questions or tell me WHY something was the way it was, and not just show me the procedure for accomplishing said task. My Co-workers were for the most part very friendly, happy to help out, and in turn I would happily help them out as well. The hardest and most frustrating part of the job was finding 3rd party auto parts, especially when the manager would not help out, and not ever teach me where to look in the first place. I found the customer service side of the job the most enjoyable, and found the most satisfaction from helping customers solve problems.

Under paid, over worked because of short staffing, offered training n more hours n pay if you to so but then not given it.
Told your not a valuable employee the second you don’t want to fill in for someone else in a job your not fully trained in yet. Or if you don’t like that job but like your current position also told your not a good employee or that they can schedule you where they want to but yet, was not in your original jobs description upon being hired. 
I’m my opinion if you have no problem doing the job your hired for and your doing it well, and all your coworkers can clearly see your a valuable and hard worker then you are clearly valuable. It’s abuse to be told your not just because you don’t want to do a job you know is not for you, not yours to do, n not properly trained in. If you do your own job n well you are a great employee but in this place I guess your not. 
Good luck getting a raise even though your told you’ll get one or are entitled to it, you probly won’t get one.

This job would be perfectly passable for a low expectations job (low pay but easy work). When I was busy driving it was awesome. When it wasn't busy it was a toxic environment. Most of the store staff are totally chill, it's diverse. But in the delivery department, two or three very insecure retired men would basically spend all day ridiculing everyone else. If you were a woman or an immigrant, or someone with special needs they would find every possible way to make the job socially hard until you quit. I watched them do this for a year while I kept busy doing my job. Then it got slow for a few weeks and there were no new people to harass so they started on me lol. PartSource is owned by Canadian Tire. There are plenty of policies in place that say a harassment free work-place is what they want but management doesn't enforce it... and really why would they? the pay is so bad that the only people who would stick around are people who don't care how much they make and don't really need the job: bitter old men. managed a store for 4 years. the upper management has little knowledge of automotive industry making it difficult sometimes. Constantly coming up with non sense promos and bog down managers with endless reports that are next to never reviewed other than open cod reports and returns. they give u a 40 hour contract but have heard a regional manger say that we all knew it was not realistically a 40 hr a week job. Constantly told to cut hours but then asked why service is slow especially when a canadian tire complains about their delivery times. managers get stuck covering the hours because they are on salary and are pressured to cut hours and its the only way to save so you get stuck working some long weeks. Head office continually changes focus which is frustrating... pushing the most expwnsive brake cleaner and insisting that staff if written up for not selling it often enough. never want to pay employees fairly but insist they are paid as per industry standards... this is NOT true.

As a positive and enthusiastic team player, I become excited at the opportunity to work in a challenging environment.  Over the eight years of experience as Regional Manager, I have learned that I am able to engage others and align to the goals of the company. It is through my outgoing personality and keen listening skills that I am able to understand what the needs of my team are.  Working with strong personalities which can be difficult at times,  however I embrace the challenge of ensuring I  allow others to express their opinions and concerns, but yet still meeting the goals of the company.  As an extraverted person, I enjoy working with others, coaching them to be the best that they can be. Mentoring through experience and increasing sales are the most enjoyable part of the job.

I needed a full time job until I started school, and when Part Source interviewed me they said they only had a part time job available. Well I was worried that I would need to get a second job to pay rent and bills, but that wasn't the case. Although on paper I was a part time employee, I was given full time hours, of course no benefits come with a part time job but I didn't expect benefits so it worked out okay for me. I work with wonderful people and I have learned so so so much. My coworkers and team leads always answer my questions and help me look for parts should I ever need it. Only thing I have seen however is that it seems there is a reluctance to give me my discount as an employee, it is always a huge event blown out of proportion when someone needs a discount...so at this point I just say that I get no discount at work. 

Job Work/Life Balance is poor.
Salary/Benefits is terrible, no sense in investing into RRSP with the little amount of money you make per month. No profit-sharing, no savings. Why invest in the company when you do not reap the benefits from it?Benefits are basic and expensive at that even considering the size of the company you would think the benefits would be top notch, it is just mediocre at most. 
Job Security/Advancement is a joke, The management team does not want you to excel and get better. There are no promotions only when it suits the current location you are employed. Raises are honestly disrespectful 2% raises will not help anyone out 
Management does not care, Not even in the slightest 
Job Culture is sickening. It is actually disturbing being employed at a company like this.
To say the least I am actively looking for a job. This place is where you go to kill your dreams and goals.

A typical day at work we assist and serve commercial and retail customers on auto parts needs and knowledge. Set up the showroom with promotional products as well as keeping the showroom stocked up in an organized fashion. I've learned to manage a team of four, two counterman, and two drivers on completing daily tasks and planning their routes to deliver to our commercial clients. My co-workers all get a long really well which makes my job as team lead much easier. Most enjoyable part of the job is to see customers come back regularly in seeking for our help and thanking us for the assistance we provide. The hardest part about the job would be handling a unsatisfied customer, our mistake or not, and to make the right decision to benefit both parties, and keeping the customer satisfied and continue to do business with our company.
