I supported individuals with varying disabilities. My day consisted of teaching life skills. I also taught grammar and communication skills. Taught cooking skills. Used music to teach new songs by singing old songs. Story telling and laughter were a regular part of my day. Team work was a must as we needed to be alert at all times to the needs of those we were supporting. Difficult days occurred when those with varying disorders acted out by fighting or bickering with each other. 

The years went by too fast. I enjoyed my career serving others and they enjoyed me. I learned that everyone has a gift. It was my job to find it and help them develop that gift so they could become a useful part of society, Many have and now have meaningful work. . They are using kills they didn't know they had,

As a support worker a typical work day varies between activities. Supervisors pair people with similar interests. Activities range from board games and computers to hiking, hiking, biking, and seasonal sports. Culture is a relaxed atmosphere with a great work-life balance!  Hardest part of the job is working with people and their emotions. The most enjoyable part of the job is working with the people. Prepared to leave with a smile!  

My experience includes individual counselling sessions for clients and helping them coping with different problems, so that they can overcome their behavioral issues. I planed programs of assistance for clients including referral to agencies that provide financial assistance, legal aid, housing, medical treatment and other services. My master degree in Social Work and additional training as a MI Practitioner would be an excellent addition to the staff at your company in Westbank.

There were things that were not great. We are supposed to be caring for people but its treated more like a business and my supervisor loved to focus on all the negative things for each person. Employees always said they did not feel appreciated and I shared that feeling.

Management does not respond appropriately to employee concerns. Workplace is not supportive or encouraging. There is no possibility of growth or advancement. Unrealistic expectations. No accountability

I really enjoyed my time while I was employed with Pathways. The staff are great and management is supportive. I enjoyed working in a union setting and felt that my rights/advancement within the position were protected. The benefits and pension package was a great addition, and I enjoyed doing a job that made a difference in people's lives.

This is a reward job but it is defiantly under paid and you are under appreciated. It is made know through this company that everyone is replaceable. There is a lot of drama between staff and is not always a positive environment. The expectations differ between employees and there is a lot of inconsistency.  

Overall this was pretty good. Dirty and disgusting some days. But easy work mostly. Sorting bottles/cans into their designated bags for counting. 
Working with peoples with disabilities and keeping them on task. 

Well organized, respectful to employees and clients, pay is fair enough but set by the gov’t, the work support workers do is worth more. Can be stressful (nature of the job) but for the most part management backs up staff well and works towards making it good for all.

I enjoy my job at Pathways. Working in this field is very rewarding and giving back to others is very fulfilling. I recommend applying here; many different positions make it easy to work in an environment that makes you want to come to work every day.
