Peace River Coal

Working at peace River Coal was an experience with constant challenges during upgrades and new installations to better the production system. Everyday was filled with new challenges and problems to solve. Daily plant inspections was done to create new work orders and inspect work that was done the previous day, inter act with the workers on the floor to discuss problems during any work related issues, safety and the improvement of such. Most of my time was spend to plan and schedule new work orders and planning maintenance days. To line up the work force and materials to complete the scheduled maintenance in time. I constantly arranged training for the trades to improve their skills. Improve safety via training and providing the necessary arc flash PPE, adapt the trouble shooting on electrical equipment to protect the tradesman and the equipment and reduce the downtime during breakdowns with the use of the given PPE. Boost the moral and confidence of the tradesman. Occasionally on down days we planned a big breakfast for the workers that not only motivate them but feed them and in return you have better concentrating and happy workers.   Provide all workers with an BBQ on regular bases to boost and keep their spirits high and to bring management closer to the workforce. On an good production targets all employees was given gifts like expensive warm jackets, cooler trolleys etc.
There was difficult problems where we had to rely on experienced and qualified resources from outside, and at the same time used this incidents as a learning curve to be able to solve the problems ourselves  if it occurs again.
For recreation we had several outside activities, golf days where everyone is a winner, curling and tenpin bowling.

Peace River Coal paid extremely well for the work performed and I had a lot of good people in the sales department under me. Workplace culture was fast paced and results based but upper management lacked the vision to understand that the coal mining industry was cyclical. Long term planning was short sighted and did not take into account that coal is a finite resource.  The overall grade of the peace river coal workplace would be an average C rating.

we work 12 hour shifts 6 on 6 off 3 days 3 nights we got picked up by bus i have learnt a lot about coal co-workers were ok if they kept the loader clean some did nothing iam a very clean person the hardest part of the job is when i show up for work and have to clean the loader the most enjoyable part of the job was loading trucks doing different tasks 

Equipment repairs and Pm services,learning something new every day.Management was good to work for.Co-workers were fun and worked good as a team,hardest part of the job was the long bus ride to and from work.Completing your job on time, safely and having a few laughs in the shift.

Peace River Coal was a very good place to work for unfortunately coal prices are at a all time low so they had to close the doors. they were fairly good at getting you to advance on your career and learning new things and paid very well.

The theme of day to day work is to correct concerns find solutions. Eliminate the waste wherever it may be. One of the most important aspects is to eliminate all accidents.

As in most places the people are great to work for.

Mostly manual labour with opportunities to train on various heavy equipment.

Management has changed twice since starting there.

Co-workers are the best part of the job.  Good "team" attitude.

Hardest part of the job is the ever-changing weather conditions.

The company was bought out by an Australian outfit, and it got a little tighter on rules.  Most people didn’t like the change, I thought it was fair  good bonuses for lost time incidents, yearly gifts to choose from, Christmas parties, beautiful scenery, new equipment.  I enjoyed my time there

shoveling coal, hosing mud or coal spills.gained experence running some of the largest loaders made.poor management,lots of micromanagement , co workers where great.keeping plant running in winter monthes.
