Pearson Embanet

Working at Pearson Embanet as a tier 1 technical support specialist has taught me one thing. That I do not belong there. 

After reading the previous review, It encouraged me to write my own to express my feelings as well. 

The standards are set very high with minimal training. You are expected to go beyond your job description on a daily basis with very minimal reward/incentive. 

When asking for assistance from superiors, it's very rare to get a straight answer ( as if they don't know the answers to your questions as well, though they are supposed to be the ones guiding you), typically you will get response such as " review your notes", or " probe them further". It can make one feel that you're issue is unimportant, in addition to that all this does is really prolong the issue further thus reducing your statistics. 

Management often meets with employees to motivate them and speak about moving up in the company and promotions being available. Do not believe this. It won't happen unless someone leaves the company and as the person previous to this review has stated it's all about who you know. 

If you have any constructive feedback about certain policies or methods you would like to bring up to the management team, prepare to be responded with:

"no"

or

"how/why would we do that, our current methods work"

You are timed to the second for breaks/lunches, and expect them to happen late, as your breaks are determined by whether or not the person before you listed on break/lunch schedule has gone already. If not, you will sit at your desk and keep working until you are allowed to go. 

The Company itself is great, if i had something company related to speak about ( benefits, parking, etc) it was fine. From speaking with others working at the company, they are content with their careers, however they are outside of the technical help desk department.

 The issue lies with this particular department, the policies and methods in place may work for them from a business perspective however the Tier 1 technical support employees suffer with absurd tasks and expectations when dealing with live users. 

The most enjoyable moment of this job is the moment your shift has ended, and you can leave. 


In Summary:

If you enjoy being worked to the pinnacle that your body allows you to in an extremely stressful, incredibly fast paced environment. Than this is the place for you. 

I HOPE this review does not get taken down, I HOPE that the Management team does see this and will change to treat their employees better and take feedback more seriously.

Working as a technical support agent at Pearson was an incredibly rewarding experience. 

The satisfaction of helping people overcome computer problems was euphoric. What made it even better was the supportive team that I worked with - always ready to give me feedback when I had questions. 

Although the hours were on a 2-week rotation with occasional overnight shifts, and the pay wasn't the greatest, the people and job more than made up for it. In fact, the biggest advantage was learning about various learning management systems used by post-secondary institutions, managing them, and how we can create and modify course content. 

The challenges of meeting targets for time spent on calls was overcome with my expanding knowledge and skills in complex technical issues. 

Working at Pearson allowed me to learn about technologies I had never used before and broaden my horizons. I highly recommend this role for anyone looking for a fulfilling and educational experience in technical support.

Worked as T1 online learning support, first you are 5 during training and then 3 when you start work and then 2 after a month and then 1 after 3 months. 

This could be a great company to work for if work flow is well structured and tasks devided amongst teams. However, you are expected to remember how deal with over 100 schools, each call is different, at times you do not password for a system to help client. As a result of constant exposure to stress and unstructured work environment you will develop constant headache and that explains why 4/5 quit during first weeks.

This company is violating human rights code and they're currently being sued by their employees for violating human rights code of Ontario.

Pros : NOTHING

Cons: Everything.  Constant high turnover.  Corruption in the leadership.  

Low pay ($35K) , low benefits package.

You will see many people who work there for 10+ years because it's a great place to settle but definitely not the place to work if you're ambitious and want to advance. Motto is "if it's not broken, don't fix it. If it is broken, still don't fix it"

This was a great place to learn overall about marketing.  There was a lot of change during my time there but never dull.  

Built a lot of my knowledge about marketing and client management at Pearson Embanet that has helped me throughout my career.

This is a great place to learn and start your career. You will be overwhelmed at first however once you get familiar with it you will notice how time flies. Management is friendly and will help you along the way.

overall a great company for people starting out.

good place to work if you are interested in education. i enjoyed working independently and they provided structure. due to management offers poor business ethics as they currently employ an unprofessional team.

The company has been going through a transition and seems that everyone is on edge. It has been uncomfortable for most but it does keep you busy. It helped me maintain my time management skills.
