After a few months working here I feel comfortable saying this company has a lot to offer anyone looking for a long term career. 

There has been quite a culture change in the months this since I have started here and have really seen all the effort put in by top management to make sure sure this is a place you can be proud to work at. 

There is no pressure to answer emails or calls after hours or when you are away. All the managers and I have worked with so far are very collaborative and open to talk if you have concerns. I have found this really helps maintain my work life balance because I have the chance to address issues head on, I don’t have to take excess stress home with me.

No work place is perfect, however I do see a massive effort from Management to shift the culture here. I appreciate they are trying and it is nice being listened to and respected. 

I would recommend applying here if there is a position that suits you. 

If you want to keep your job, I would suggest sitting at the picnic table at lunch with the rest of the clique. Expect to work outside every day in the cold and rain/snow with your own supplied tools getting soaked, doing belly valves, and jobs that aren't even part of the trade.  A typical day at work: Getting called into the office first thing in the morning and being called out for taking too much time on jobs even though, I was entry level and doing repairs for the first time, it took half the day to find the proper shop tools to do the jobs (No tool crib/disorganized shop) and to top that all off I was working outside doing commercial wheel and various other pulls outside in the mud and dirt because their shop wasn't big enough.


Calgary peterbilt was an amazing shop, and most of the staff were great. However there wasn’t much in the way of apprentices, so the majority of the learned came from apprentices teaching apprentices, and the rest was from getting written up because nobody told how to do what you were doing. 

While I was there I heard about, and saw many apprentices get the boot for “not meeting the expected standard of knowledge.” In a shop like that where you’re only in school for 2 months of the year, the majority of learning comes from the more experienced guys handing down their knowledge to the new fellas. Very little of that happened there. 

Overall, not a bad place for somebody who knows their stuff and is confident with their work, but not the best for somebody who is trying to learn. 

I was hired by the service manager, and he was great. I worked in the warranty dept. The warranty manager on my first day told me I would dislike him in a week, he wasn't kidding, I had to go to HR. I really like my job but there were fumes coming into our office that was a new add-on to the building, just built. For months they had people in to try and find the problem. We all felt sick with headaches. I along with others had to quit. I was told it took a year to figure out the problem. That was too bad. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Poor management.
Toxic work enviroment.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Any infraction will be met with a write up and then unpaid suspension.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic working enviroment. Management will throw you under the bus if convienent for them.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Typical day includes being verbally abused by your foreman and not having any guidance on your work.

Be aware accounting has high turn over. Communication is horrible and never clear and you have multiple people giving different instructions. Two face management that gossip together. Toxic work life balance. Job enough for 1.5 person and you always feel you fall short even if you work your full time hours. Nobody takes lunch breaks so when you do management glare at you. Not a good work and life balance. They never tell you to work late or on weekends but imply you fall short if you do not. Horrible place to work.

Some bad management within the company, especially at the top. 
No communication from management. You try and talk to them and get ignored. 
Never been at a company with such huge staff turn over.  It can’t always be bad employees. 
It is certainly not the company I worked for years ago when I was hired. 
When there was structor and good organization. 
Employees there are a great group of people. Although there are lots of favourites within depts.

Transmission diagnostic and repair. Engine diagnostic and repair.  Welding, fabrication and repair

Working with unconditional time lines


What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very very unsettling. No room for mistakes 


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I am no longer with that company

there is absolutely no incentive to learn or advance within this company.  no backup from management, don't know of anyone that is happy working there. Vacation only permitted at certain times of the month and never more than 1 week at a time.  Expected to work extra hours at monthend and yearend. Definitely did not look forward to going to work every day.

I had a good experience. I learned a lot and rarely felt pressured to rush. The manager was solid and knowledgeable. The parts department was reliable and supportive. At times, the mechanics on the floor could act like high school kids - there was the "cool kids" and then everyone else. Pranks and ribbing could be less then good-natured at times.
