Pets at Home

There’s pros and cons to working here for sure. There’s definitely room to develop and progress, however the work/home life balance is non-existent. Many times people are taken on, on 16 hours contracts and are made to work in excess of 40 hours a week, with no overtime pay, just standard rate and then struggle to have their contract upped to reflect the extra work they have done. 
The company spends A LOT of money on treating animals at the vet, so cannot fault them for the outlay in costs, however, A LOT of management (not all) care more about the KPIs (VIP sign ups, swipe, puppy and kitten, subscriptions) than the actual pets themselves. Many a time I saw managers overruling a colleague who didn’t want to sell an animal to an unsuitable home just to avoid a complaint, inevitably leading to the animal suffering. After working in a few stores there’s certainly favouritism with some managers, meaning only certain colleagues would be disciplined for their actions and certain managers wouldn’t receive punishment when they screwed up. 
 Lots of covering up when it comes to animal welfare and issues within the store too to make sure it didn’t reflect badly on them. 
Lots of gossiping from managers, nothing was kept confidential. 

It is dependant on the store you work in, as some are a lot nicer than others. However, I certainly wouldn’t recommend to work for the company if you actually care about ensuring animals go to the right home. 

I found it to be an inclusive and fun environment to be in. however the KPI targets are somewhat stupid and tend to sap the enjoyment. you could be the best worker there be 100% on customer experience and general retail tasks but if you cant get on the KPI board then you get pulled up. thing is the managers are great as they know that the targets are somewhat unrealistic but as they say it all rolls down hill as they would receive just as much grief from their boss and so on. 

Started out as a good job, well structured and good hours. They re structured their training so you cannot advance that high very easily or quickly (5 years on average ) the company does not put pets first at all. Be prepared to have to schedule your life around this job, shifts changed the night before at 11pm. Constantly called into work, shifts constantly changing hours cut and bonuses cut. Very high stress job with lots of pressure on sales and forcing customers into things they don’t want or need . I would recommend avoiding 

The best bit about being a stylist at Pets at Home was the dogs and their owners. They appreciate the groomers in a way management don’t. Store management try to tell groomers how to do their jobs with no idea of how grooming works. Store managers have their favourite colleagues who can do what they want with no consequences while everyone else picks up the slack. 

A good variety of daily tasks, room to progress within company or branch out to groomers/vets, company offers a lot to staff in ways of help. 
Don’t believe get paid enough for responsibility given. Not your typical retail job - responsible for care of animals and require a lot of training. Hope they improve pay soon. 

Really great place to work with people that are committed to the care of animals. A day never seems long when you are doing something you enjoy and there is so much available to learn and develop. 

This is an excellent job to have, I have worked at other companies and they are nothing compared to pets at home, they actually make you feel wanted and that you have a purpose and that you are an actual human being who deserve the good things best decision I ever made.

Retail business that put the pets first. Funding is spent in training the colleagues to a high level in all aspects of animal welfare and the selling of pets to the public. Many people will be very surprised the amount of work that is actually done. It is definitely not just a pet shop.

This is a great company to work for I really enjoy the people I work with. It’s good pay and you can progress in the company. The people you work with are helpful and will give advice within the company.

Can't fault pets at home in any way 😃treat you well , good holidays pay benefits , easy going , fun to work , would recommend to anyone all ages . getting to work with animals , care .10/10
