Phoenix Building Components

- A typical day included coming into work with your mask, ear plugs, safety glasses, boots, your own tape measure and hammer. Figuring out what supervisor wanted to work with you today, they are all different; in the way they teach and if they even want to  teach you. A lot of the time you are just standing around, waiting for your supervisor to get the next job, they want you to clean but do not provide enough brooms or dust pans to do so. After waiting, you take a couple hours to set up your station, which includes getting plates, and huge carts of wood that are both on the other side of the warehouse. Then you finally get to begin, this includes long hours of hammering, getting on and off tables repeatedly in hot humid environments with your mask and safety glasses fogging up from heat. 
- I learned the human body can get injured a lot. As well, I did learn how to read a tape measure, different grades of wood, how to identify imperfect wood and how to teach myself a lot. 
- Management likes to pick favourites, and they really enjoy hiding in their office. There is two managers there that are pretty great. However, one works out in the yard and the other is always in his office; other than those two no one else there seems to know how to talk to people or want to help you out. HR is also not the greatest to rely on to fix anything, they show up late to their own shift and sometimes end up bringing their kids in as well. Seems to be very dysfunctional. 
- Some people are really nice, helpful and eager to teach you new things. While others it feels like are waiting for you to just quit, so they wont even waste their time. 
- Hardest part of the job is the cliques, its kind of like high school and everyone has their friends. 
The most enjoyable part is the pay 

A day at work would be to punch in and get a list of jobs to be build. When building, there is a lot of repetitive motions (hammering) and up and down on the table, but if you like physical work, you get used to it fast.  I learned how to work well in a team, read a tape, and health and safety awareness.
The employees for the most part are pretty good and nice, you get the occasional person who is difficult to get along with, but I think it's like that at most places.  Management is pretty fair and helpful.  They don't put up with people being slackers or causing issues, so that is a good thing.  They have tried to be as accomadating as possible during the past couple years with covid etc, so that is helpful, especially if you have kids.  The hardest part of the job is probably when it gets really hot and humid and working with a mask on, but they do let you take extra breaks and buy gatorade and freezies etc.  The part I enjoy best about the job are the people I work with and finishing at 3:30....I still have a lot of the day left.

The company pays labours $12/hr for 12 hour long shifts. Granted you get what seems like a 3 day weekend if on night crew but you spend most of your Friday catching up on sleep. Your work is hard and at a very pressed fast pace, and balancing work life during the week with your home life is near impossible with start and finish times of 4:30pm - 4:30am, leaving you little time to do much during your wake time. 

This job is defiantly an in between jobs kinda place, you won't want to stay long for the small incentive they offer, which is a possible $500/month production bonus that depends on your entire crews performance, and the $0.80/hr attendance bonus which tells you they have a hard time keeping employees.

All and all a sound company from the out side but on the inside of those doors you have alcoholics and drug users as I have noticed on my breaks. These poor souls probably driven there by the soul crushing job that is Phoenix building co.

Work from day to day is always varying depending on workload. There are always new and exciting ways to innovate and take on a diverse range of tasks. I personally have learned a lot and continue to learn. I have worked with a bunch of great people and continue to work alongside the best. The people are the best part of the job. The hardest part can be the pace at which things can fluctuate. Time management is key, but this comes with learning of the job. Management is the best and most accommodating to all employees. Very personable and reasonable.

I stood around with a guy for 3 weeks and we did absolutely nothing and it was a one person job.   I wish I didn't get fired because that was the easyiest job I ever had.  Don't believe what hr tells you about bonuses because there are none.  Guys were saying that they hadn't seen bonus in 8-9 months so don't let them pry you in with that.   People are constantly getting hurt.  When I was standing around there they said there was 4 or 5 guys off on WSIB claims.  I'll miss Phoenix.

Phoenix Building Components has a revolving door of employees and there is a reason for this. 


   Management will not address the problems with deficiencies effectively and bats a blind eye to the many non-compliant and  safety issues which ultimately can put employees at risk.

More work for less pay is the standard catch phase with this employer.  

Before accepting a job with this company i suggest you do your research.  Make certain you have everything in writing regarding the  production and attendance bonuses they try to draw you in with, and do not trust human resources to look out for the safety and health of their employees.

If you decided that you want to drive for this company I would think twice. There equipment is less then par. The dispatch/ supervisor does not care for you or the the equipment. HR is never there which will not help you when you have a issue. If you decided to work for this company remember your always wrong.
    
     If you value your cvor and abstract I suggest do not go here for a job. 

    However if you like to get pulled in at every MTO site and at the border this job is for you. Enjoy the tickets, if you let the company take care of it you will end up witha  very bad cvor.

Terrible. Trained by multiple different people each day with different ways to do the job each day. Even told on my first day that I wasn't being trained the right way by the supervisor. One day you do it right. One day you don't. One builder even had the audacity to throw lumber back at me and talk to me like I was a child. The yard is a joke too. Basically stand there all day on your phone
 Every 10-15 minutes actually do something. Was given 2 weeks and 2 days and let go. Absolute joke. 

Worked there for five years with only 2 pay reviews. They promise a review every 3 to 12 months but never do them on time. 

HR is a joke she comes in once a week and is only there for an hour or two. She prefers to stay at the other office. 

Bonus is a joke, unless you get to write your down time which they don’t take into account since they don’t want to pay you bonus! Also when you leave the company they Cancel every bonus cheque you’ve earned but haven’t received yet.

LEAVE MY HOUSE BY 3:30PM AND GET HAME AFTER 4:30AM DEPENDING ON TRAFFIC.
I LEARNED NOT TO GET COMFORTABLE WITH A POOR COMPANY.
THE MANAGEMENT WAS TERRIBLE,I CANT BELIEVE THE WAY THEY TREAT THEYRE WORKERS.
MY CO-WORKERS WERE GREAT.I LOVED WORKING WITH THEM.
THE HARDEST PART OF THE JOB WAS NOT HAVING A LIFE OUTSIDE OF WORK.
THE MOST ENJOYABLE PART OF MY JOB IS THAT I LEARNED MY LESSON.
