What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Show at the job  office morning meeting with other management, Determine job scope for day . Site meeting then of to whatever was planned for the day liaison with client anf other companies as required.  Do paperwork and computer work. Don't fall behind! End of day meetings as required.  Normally 10hr days but can go 16hr or more if necessary

•	Received and offloaded material delivered for the project.  During receiving I was involved with checking the quantities, quality control checks (including recording and verifying heat numbers), organizing the material in the storage area, distributing the material into work areas as per the drawings.  During unloading and loading operations, worked with the operator to safely rig the materials with slings and shackles as required.  Completed site clean-up between deliveries and inventorying.  Learned all the above items  Since it is in the field the shifts vary on the job but vary from 10days in and 4 days out to 16days in adn 5 days out. At least 10hrs per day on site, so tired at end of the day

What is the best part of working at the company?
Worked here for 10 years prior moving to Toronto, it is the best company in my life, nice and professional co-workers, company recognizes and hires only the best for each position.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Deadlines and accuracy of information.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
You are your own boss and schedule, get the work done in methods of your chosen meeting deadline.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
8 hours a day, no overtime or weekend.

Pillar has a nice fabrication shop with all the tools you would need to get the job done. However they cheap out when it comes to wages. What they do is illegal in that they aren't paying their apprentices according to the normal wage percentages. But call anyone who isn't a welder a "welders helper" which means a capped wage below what the apprentice should be making depending on the year of their apprenticeship. Good first level management, but above that its questionable at best.

Pillar has been around for over 30 years, they have toughed it out through a couple down turns.  They seem to have held onto their core crew. People are loyal and the company is loyal to them, which is why there are so many long term employees.  Oil and gas has its highs and lows, its hard for everyone to ramp up and  down to keep up, but Pillar seems to make it work.  They run lean, but they are an overall really good company to work for.

They're alright. The cheques don't bounce. Scheduling is pretty decent. When they're hot they're hot, when they're not they're not. The jobs are getting shorter and shorter. Too much time off in between jobs.

There's a lot to recommend Pillar.

What I liked most about working there was how up front they are in the bidding process, with extremely detailed letters attached to each bid outlining conditions and exceptions in sometimes excruciating detail.

They are honest and fair people, from the top on down

Started and completed most of my Steamfitter/Pipefitter apprenticeship with this company. Had work available for a large portion of the time.

I enjoy working here. I was indentured here and supported through my apprenticeship. Great group of people to work with and I learned a lot working on various equipment. Nice clean shop as well. Pillar treats it’s people well. 

Highly motivated environment, safety is a top priority, even when people have different backgrounds they share same values, having to work in town is definitely a pro compare to working out of town.
