Pizza Hut

This place was the definition of toxic through and through. When referring to a job done on a previous shift it always felt as though I was being talked down to, but while doing a good job or extra work during the shift I got the bare minimum of praise. Pay raises are apparently so low you might as well dig through your couch for loose change instead. The work loads for certain front of house employees were never even or fairly laid out, often times it felt like I was running the whole FOH and sometimes back of house by myself. Even post-mandate lifts I was still by myself most nights, despite more customers coming in to basically fill the dining room. Once a co-worker was serving during lunch and could not handle anymore tables in a way that would give the customers attention or even decent service, they were told by management they had no choice and must continue taking tables. I’ll re-iterate they had zero help in the FOH until they were almost on overtime because the labour prices matter more than a worker having a tough shift. There also was no sense of teamwork or care for an individual; I often found myself scared to take a drink or eat despite not having a second to during our open hours, because “if you have time to sit you have time to do work”.  I would often times have no life outside of sleeping and working at this place, honestly working here had me extremely depressed, anxious and feeling inadequate if I had to ask for help in any area of my job. If you’re looking for a first job as a teenager or minimum serving experience then this job will suit that but if you stay long you’ll find yourself never making more than minimum wage unless you’re a manager, in which case you may make a dollar more for a barely longer and much harder shift. 

Pizza Hut is one of my most favorite pizza companies, until I started working there. Now, I know what goes on behind the scenes  and who was actually making my food all these years. Fortunately for me , even though I still work here, I came into this business with the passion, care and want, plus all the certificates to go with it. Unfortunately though, this is my first job with the title Cook, and no I am not ashamed just irritated.  

 A typical day at work: I arrive by 4pm but my schedule has been cut a few hours here and there every other week. Sometimes 30 hours, sometimes less, but most days I start at 5pm. I then get myself ready aswell as then beginning my preparation work for the store. First I make sure all food is safe, clean and ready, then I begin to fill "make-table" inserts (before and after I wash my hands thoroughly), after I see if any orders need to be made and then continue with my mid-day clean up and making/prep of food items. I do not handle food without first washing hands, and in a rush I do not skip this step. Also, I do not take breaks without first having everything done. 

What I learned: My first day my manager told me that "Most things here aren't done properly."  
I noticed there was no paper towel or soap in dispenser, It was my first day I couldn't do it myself without asking. 
Every time I didn't know how to do something I had to ask. There was no real training week or period. 

My management and coworkers: Are in the same category because they act the same and know about the same. 

The hardest part of the job: The fast-paced rushes at dinner time because of poor teamwork skills/ management and store prep.

Most enjoyable: I get the most expensive pizza for FREE.

Just a regular entry-level job. Typical food industry in the sense that you're  always extremely busy and understaffed because they need to monitor their labour percentage. Management always giving out free food to nasty customers which just makes the nasty customers come back later and be rude to you again in hopes to get free food. Being a cook is fun because you're crazy busy and it's robotic once you get it and fun to finish a big rush - but it sucks to be only paid minimum wage. Being a server is nice because you get compensated for the rush depending on the customers/locations... Overall, the grease sucks though in any position in the food industry and the smell is awful. But you often get free food (even if you're not supposed to) so that's a bonus. You can make a ton of friends but also there can be a lot of drama (as with any workplace). Management heavily influences the workplace culture, so be careful when you're interviewing and make sure to ask about their management style/the managers themselves because that will tell you how your experience will go! The franchise owners conduct regular audits and depending on who they are, my experience was they purposely tried to intimidate you and I think they were extremely hard on the managers of the store because the managers were always extremely stressed out and often got burnt out. 

A typical day at work would include going to the bank in the morning before opening hours. Doing preparation for evening staff. Helping customers with there orders and making said order. Helped Schools with planing orders in advance and making sure they would get there on time. Doing the stores food orders (Sysco) and Drink orders (Pepsi co). Did this all alone in the morning till 5pm when other staff would show up.

Coworkers where more like friends they made you feel like you belonged and sometimes inspired to work with.

Hardest part of the job for me was when customers that would yell and scream at me when there order was taken by the call center or online and placed at the wrong store or not placed at all and your trying to make up to them and it's never good enough it really puts you down for most if not all of the day.

Most enjoyable part of the job for me was when a school teacher
came into the store to give me a letter with a bunch of thank you
and happy birthdays on it. I had the biggest smile for the day.

The only reason I lost this job was because I moved and they could not transfer me. That's it for my review

On a normal day I'd come in at around 4 or 5 and make sure the make table was well stocked and if I needed to grab anything or prep it for later such as cutting more vegetables. Throughout the shift I would either make orders as they came or cut pizzas and package them depending on if they were for dine-in or if they were leaving the store. I would also do dishes through out if time permitted. By the end of the shift all dishes needed to be cleaned and put away, all surfaces wiped, expired products disposed of, filter the oil in the deep fryer and scrub it, and we would sweep and mop the floors.

This job really reinforced time management throughout the shift as the chores really added up to a large amount of time if left to the end of the shift. We also really had to pay attention to expiration dates as many products expire rather quickly such as dough.

Management and co-workers were great, we all got along for the most part and everybody did their part in making sure the restaurant ran smoothly.

I believe that the hardest part of the job was making sure to communicate what stage we were at with producing different orders when many people were working at once because sometimes when two or more people were working on one large order, certain items could have been made twice.

The most enjoyable part of the job was the environment because while everybody was a hard worker, we still had a bit of fun while business was slow.

I worked at Mayor Magrath, Lethbridge AB location for almost a year and it has to be one of the worst places I've worked. Not worth it, being paid minimum wage to have managers scream and yell at you for reasons like putting to much cheese in a cup. told me I could get fired for over flowing a cup. one year later the manager told me I would have to take out my nose ring or id be sent home. she then later that day started harassing me and screaming at me on front of everyone and telling me she would send me home, after I'd done nothing but put one extra wing In a fryer. I told her I had no reason to be sent home as I've done absolutely nothing but my job for the past 10 months. MANAGMENT IS THE BIGGEST JOKE HERE. absolutely NO respect for employees. employees and managers are running around talking smack about each other like hight school rather than addressing what's wrong. Someone else also said senior staff members and managers insult other staff and it's the same herw, terrible work environment. you're over worked with very little breaks, never know when you're going home, having only 2 people close the kitchen and be there till 2am sometimes. so glad that I dont work here anymore such a backwards place. no one is trained properly and you're pretty much thrown in there expected to know everything. I stayed for the time being but the people there are pretty shady, everything you have to out up with isnt worth it. this job gave me anxiety.

Working with 8 to 10 hours with full operational work, running the restaurant with 10 staffs and supervisors.  Forecast and set expectations for the day-to-day operations.  Execution and follow ups of the standards operations. Sales and inventories report.

I worked with different level of attitude and culture which gives me more learning on how to deal with different kind of people.  Motivating people by continuous providing them trainings and recognition will make each and every of my staff deliver beyond our customer's expectation to our service is what I always heading to achieved and learned in every day working.  Having supported by my Superiors, Area Managers and recognized my efforts and execution are motivating me to strive more.  My co-workers often give feedback on our daily run of operations which reflects my leadership to them.  The hardest part of my job is the pressure with pleasing each customer and unexpected problems arise which actually gives us also the challenges to make a decision a quick as possible to deliver the customer service as set by the company.  The most enjoyable part of the job is I am working with a team players and with high spirit and a smooth environment with happy people.

The Day usually run at a constant pace though exceptions do occur when certain situation happen e.g. events, weather, other stores sales, with lunch and supper hours being the busiest and the off hours ranging from steady to quiet. 

The management is both firm and fair with management structure rarely changing massively  due to having a reliable and enjoyable managers.

Due to the having experienced workers the workplace is both fast-pace and well balanced environment with even the busier days going by simply due to how skilled the workers are.

Training is fairly simple and don't truly require proper experience, outside of management, and can be picked up quickly when properly trained. Former work experience would help out a lot, though  food or service experience isn't truly  required. 

Hours are usually constant though having flexibility for both evening and afternoon shifts is helpful with their own benefits, with a decent range of growth if one desires it, I personally when from Dishwasher to main Closer / Kitchen staff and side dough maker in less then 4 years. 

Overall if you are looking for a good environment that allows you to work flexible shifts with the potential of being a reliable worker then it will be worth the time and investment.

At Pizza Hut, I had the privilege of working as a team member in a fast-paced and customer-centric environment. As a vital member of the team, I gained valuable experience in various aspects of the job, including order taking, food preparation, and ensuring prompt and accurate delivery to customers.

I honed my multitasking abilities by managing multiple orders simultaneously while maintaining a high level of efficiency and accuracy.

I learned the importance of teamwork, time management, and attention to detail, all of which were crucial for maintaining a positive work environment and meeting customer expectations.

Overall, my experience at Pizza Hut was highly rewarding, allowing me to develop essential skills while providing excellent service to customers. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and left with a deeper appreciation for the importance of teamwork and exceptional customer care.

Worked at the blackfalds Pizza Hut location for nearly 2 years. Management was very kind and helpful, at first. Loved it for a very long time but has recently gone downhill FAST. I was told I would get full time hours following a 10 day holiday after graduation. Due to unforeseen circumstances I had to extend that holiday by a few days. Since then I have been told I am not only not going full time, but they hired another part time worker who I will have to “split” part time hours with. I went from 9hrs a week part time, to being promised 20-25hrs full time, to being told I would be cut down to 4-5hrs/week. I have not even been given a single shift since the holiday 3 weeks ago, even after contacting management 4+ times a week. Oh and when you’re part time, you don’t get a cut of the tips even if you’re the one working with the customers. I haven’t had a single bad experience until recently. The pay was good, got a raise from minimum wage ($13.50 as a minor) to $15 within 2 months of working there but hasn’t gone up in over a year. Hours were never great (3min.-12max. hrs/week. Typically 6-9) but was good enough as a high school student. 
Overall, decent starter job to gain experience, but don’t recommend as long term.
