This job is really easy to do, it is demanding in a physical way but I enjoyed that. People I worked with were always great. My main issue is that there was never any real direction from a manager, and instead it was store employees bossing us around and there was a huge power issue. Only saw manager maybe 3 times all summer and that says a lot because I worked full time mon-fri. Another issue is that when the weather was bad there also was no direction, and working in a garden centre that wasn’t covered at all meant that we lost a full day of work.

Vendors get paid 12$ and at the beginning of season It is labor intensive work. Half way through the season we got cut back to 7.5 hours instead of our full 8 because other employees would go a few minutes over time. Which is not fair for the people who respected the 8 hours. Bad enough we are getting paid close to minimum wage cutting back a half hour each day is a lot of money gone. Not impressed. The only benefit to this job is that you don't work weekends or any holidays or evening shifts they also have flexible hours. I wont be coming back next year because of the pay and the hours.

This is my first year with Plant Essentials 
I must admit I love it,  
I'm a seasoned merchandiser so it's an easy fit for me
The days are M-F 7 OR 8AM TO 3 OR 4PM
NO WEEKENDS  
it's hard work and in the beginning there's a lot to do product comes in you have unwrap and bench it  
I walk on average 8 miles a day  
Great people to work with, as we work at Lowe's but employed by plant essentials 
It's seasonal so it does end when the gardening season ceases

This one wasn't for me. Every day I'd finish my daily tasks early and spend the rest of the shift wandering around looking for something to do (which employers hated cause it made me look lazy). Also my store manager didn't follow any of Plant Essentials' big rules about plant placement and got mad at me when I did follow them. Overall it felt boring and inconsistent. I've never swept floors so much.

Working outdoors with plants is very enjoyable. The pay is only minimum wage. The work is physically demanding. Customer service is part of the job whether or not it is discussed with you. There are always customers asking questions. Other companies with the same duties pay significantly more money. If you dont need the money and like working outdoors then maybe this is your job. At the back end the business contacts are unreasonable

Caretaking of plants, frequently more plants received that there is table space for. Planning inventory space usage & relocating plants between areas. Chill work schedule, early start, accessible by bus route. Made for a great summer job. Occaisionally helping with the department store, answering questions for customers, moving stock, retireiving items via ladder, etc. Directing in-store watering staff.

Good working environment, some early mornings to avoid the heat. Learned a lot about plants and gained enough knowledge to answer costumer's question about plants. The customizable schedule is really nice if you have other appointments/activities. The pay is not a living wage however and you get no benefits or discounts while working.

The pay is terrible. It’s a lot of work. You aren’t respected.

The owner and the manager are awful. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Hot , long ,busy lots of plants to move around.

the fact i had to work with plants was like when i was still in highschool ive always loved horitculture or anything to do with wild life, the days werent too long but it got me by, the area manager was always nice and always helped us out, hardest part was being in the heat all day.
