-Constant misleading promises and straight up lies to employees

-Rampant nepotism

-You will work alone almost constantly, they cut labour so thin it's almost a ghost operation

-Managers can rarely supervise/support their stores and staff because corporate forces even them to work alone and stretch as thin as possible to save money, even the best middle managers are completely crippled at their job by awful leadership and penny pinching policies

-This company has average turnover of one month, for obvious reasons

-Company claims to have competitive salaries, which is the biggest joke of all

-Pathetic benefits, like genuinely insulting

-Promotions don't actually mean more pay, just more responsibility and more hours

-Full-time doesn't exist for the strong majority of employees

-Workplace culture is toxic and cutthroat, and it starts from the very top all the way down

-Say goodbye to your personal life, work/life balance is some of the worst in the industry and it only gets worse with promotions

-Almost nobody in leadership is actually qualified, most are completely uneducated and it seriously shows with the complete lack of sustainable and ethical business practices that even below-average business students would be aware of

-You'll probably find a more fulfilling and better compensated job right across the street from any of these stores

-The company always states that they make no money as an excuse for all the penny pinching, while at the same time they open entire new branches of the company like butcher shops and bars all over the province

-If you value yourself even the slightest, run away

A typical day at work sees you on the sales floor for a constant 8 hours, not allowed to sit in the back for a length of the period even if the store location hasn't seen any traffic in a few hours, and must stay on the sales floor at all times. 

constantly micro-managed by store managers on top of regional managers who are hardly ever in location to have an understanding of what's going on or if it's already been done, so be prepared to be told to do the same thing 9 times in 8 hours. 

Also, good luck getting 8 hours in 1 shift, the max id ever gotten was 9 hours in 1 year's worth of work for them and was only because they have hardly any staff to cover sick days. Will dock pay where ever they can.  

Not paid for sick days and paid vacation pay per pay period. 

Management is hostile, It will have you thinking everything is fine and then the next day poof. Hard to get clear communication about said events or back-end management. Will make employees compete for positions within the company and encourages snitching. 

The corporate and competitive nature of this job is exhausting. Maybe some people thrive in that environment, but I personally entered the cannabis industry looking for a different type of retail. A LOT of cannabis retailers are life changing to work for and I’ve had some awesome jobs in cannabis! That is not what I found here at Plantlife. They pit us against each other and only care about who has the highest sales and who makes the most money. It’s allll about numbers here, and if you can’t keep up they cut you loose. If you’ve ever worked for a large corporate company like Walmart, that’s EXACTLY what the culture at place is like, just with weed instead of sweatshop clothes and reasonably priced groceries. If you enjoy competition, and cliques, and managers who exploit you, you’ll LOVE it here! 

A lot of store managers with this company seem to be trained to make their employees fearful of repercussions rather than fostering an environment of growth. Be prepared to be extremely micromanaged in everything you do and written up for the smallest of circumstances. There is also no transparency for what actions constitute a write-up and employees are NOT treated equal in this regard.

Company also puts sales above all else, and not in a healthy way that benefits the company/staff. Employees are made compete against eachother in a way that creates way more tension and stress than necessary in entry level positions.

Overall bad experience and the poor work environment hits the budtenders and goes all the way up to regional management. Do not recommend working for this company at any level.

Typical day at work would consist of restocking, cleaning and sales, with some back end work at either the beginning or end of the shift. Thanks to a really good manager I was able to learn sales and the cannabis industry. However, I soon learned that unfortunately he did not represent the company as a whole. Employees are very nice people which helped the work environment feel better but you are still always walking on egg shells whenever management is in. Hardest part of the job was dealing with managers. The most enjoyable parts of the job would be working with fellow coworkers, heading home after your shift and looking for new a job in spare time.

only care about whether or not the staff was hitting budget, didn't care weather they were selling product to incorrect costumers. management puts on a front that they are promoting you to get you into staying until they make you hire your own replacement. once the have that going they'll have you gone with no hesitation or explanation. there was little to no training as well as no communication between stores or staff. don't follow legal hiring bylaws, or will walk the grey line as much as possible. wouldn't waste you're time or effort trying to please management for a raise because the furthest you'd go in the company is a transfer further then your original store.

Was very excited to start working here. Thought “ it’s cannabis, I bet everyone will be great.” 
Can’t believe the amount of animosity and sheer ignorance of eachother at this work place. 
Stretched me across 4 different stores and expected so much out of you when you were absolutely, without a doubt, giving 110%. 
Messed up my hours countless times. Even reduced my hourly wage by $1/hr thinking I wouldn’t notice. Shoddy work and subpar management and I’m being quite civil with my words. They are a lot worse than I am giving them credit for. You have been warned. 

Started out being trained by a first time trainer. Thought I learned it all but didn't actually. The manager was mean and rude and favored someone over me for everything. Called in because of weather and got 12 hours for the next schedule. New management is now in place but the place can't get their act together. If it's not one thing it's another. If you aren't the favorite then you don't get ahead at all. Do not waste your time here, not worth the mental stress, the upper management does nothing to improve anything and you get written up after you complain about the wrong doings around you. 

Plantlife is one of the most relaxed, friendly retail environments I’ve ever been in. Very low expectations, really easy day to day tasks and their focus on customer connection and selling good weed makes the vast majority of customer interactions positive. You tend to be by yourself a lot so if you like the freedom and space to preoccupy your free time, its a good job. This can also sometimes be a negative thing as communication with overall management should improve to keep all employees up to date.

It was one of the worse places to work , I have never felt so terrible in a job  in my life. I was gaslighted and alienated by management. I'm all about empowering people and promoting. This company is only interested in you if you are under 25 and have no qualifications, that way they think you will put up with their low wages and ridiculous schedule expectations. I put my best foot forward and worked hard to overcome the obstacles with a smile. my reward of advancement was a lie. I was discarded like trash. It was a terrible experience!
