Horrible place to work. Management pits workers against each other.  The supervisors are lacking common sense and people skills. Very much the you do what I tell you attitude. I've seen a lot of people lose their livelihood due to poor judgement and listening to the supervisors when work is unsafe. But this mill is all about money and they don't care about the workers, you keep up or get out. 

If you are not already in top physical condition then don't bother with them, they will just give you the boot in under a week. No time is given to adjust to this kind of physical labour and when you're tired the supervisors just assume you're slacking off. They won't even talk to you about any of it until they fire you. Aside from that, the pace of the work made time go by real fast and was the most enjoyable part of it all.

Porcupine is the most un-safe environment I have ever worked in.  The fore-woman there is a monster.  You are hired to do one job but they only give you 1 day training, and then you may be thrown in a different, more dangerous job.  When I brought it up, the fore-woman basically told me to job or go home.  The pay is NOT WORTH the stress or ugly treatment that you receive at this sawmill.

Poor pay. Management is 2 faced. They will promise you the moon and come through with nothing. Safety is around -10. One of the worst Worksafe records in the kootenays.  If you get injured on the job they will either find a way to fire you or make your work life so miserable that you quit.  I saw this happen many times. Finally had enough.

working at porcupine was good for about a month. after that the treatment from the supervisors went downhill and then eventually it got to the point where i quit because of it. most of the guys on my crew were pretty good to work with for the most part. the hardest and most enjoyable part of the job was the pace and i liked the whole mill enviroment

You get back from the job exactly what you put into it. There is an initial learning curve, but if you're willing to work hard & make it show, your efforts will be recognized. 

They are unfair to injured employees.  They poorly pay their employees.  Management was vindictive and bullish to describe my personal experience.  The only thing I appreciated about the job was the lay-off they gave me as a window to find new job opportunities.

Very unsafe and unfair to injured workers. Pay isnt horrible but its just not worth the hassle. Couple good supervisors other than that managment is horrible, rude and argumentative. Feels like high-school drama everyday.

Work is extremely strenuous. Pay is far too low. Don't believe them when they say you get a premium for OFA 3, they wont give it to you. Overall terrible experience, do not recommend...

It's factory chain work. I feel like the ceiling for personal devellopement is too limited for me. But if I ever need a more stable work I would consider it again.
