Portage

Working at Portage has equipped me with many skills in the counselling field. 

A typical day at work involves supervising up to 16 youth residents at a time while they perform chores and participate in group activities, organizing and facilitating therapeutic groups, having one-on-one engagements with residents, utilizing various therapeutic interventions when faced with conflict, briefing the next shift team on the events of the day, completing log books, and writing various reports.

The most enjoyable part of this job is building rapports with the residents and creating fun groups for them. I personally enjoy creating self-esteem groups which I find to be effective with the female youth I specifically work with. I love knowing at the end of my work day that I've made some kind of difference in someone's life. 

The hardest parts of the job are dealing with conflicts (verbal and physical) between residents, and disclosures. Sometimes the disclosures are hard to hear, and it can be difficult depending on their age when letting them know the procedures surrounding disclosures (notifying parents, etc.). It can also be difficult de-escalating residents when in the middle of a conflict.

ok if it's a first job, for example a 20 year old who still lives with parents because living autonomously with a Portage salary is not possible.
For years, Portage administrators bragged about how efficient they were while paying very low wages but, as wages started to increase in many work disciplines, Portage has been unable to retain their good employees.

This place farther advanced my skills and abilities that I still make use of today! It was well organized. Each day had a well laid out plain on what could be expected from day to day! It made getting up a 5:30 am worth the lasting impact left on the clients we worked with! I am forever grateful for the experience this place gave me!

while working at "Le portage" i learned many new tools in how i work now its shown me how to be well mannered but management skills in  work life i have never regretted working their but sadly it was closed down when the building was sold ,and it having been voulenteer work it took alot if paitence to work customer service.

They pay 15.11 per hour.  They lied and said they would pay 17.37.  Did not tell me about extra hours/expectations/no overtime.

Overall I enjoyed working here!  It was a tough role and I had some great managerial support.  The workload is overwhelming at times but this seems typical for the line  of work! 

it was a really good place to learn and get to know how sales work and how to bargain and work with people to help them get what they want and i got to learn how to work with moeny

I think it is a Productive and fun workplace. could give you a good experience time and help you to improve your skills. Very good and professionals managements.
