I feel lost, there is no leadership, and they treat you like a kitchen, bringing in orders and waiting for deliveries, without even allowing a decent requirements meeting.

They want you to do all the service, from requirements gettering, through development (they hire you as a system analyst, but want a full stack developer) and including tests, do not give you support and do not explain the business rules involved in the project.

Everything is slow, take weeks to solve a simple problem

Loved planning the special events, but mainly the team I worked with was amazing. 
A boss who would listen to our needs, great team meetings and lots ok knowledgeable colleagues. I learned a lot on project management, event planning, marketing, leadership and the importance of helping each other and being part of a team. The values and history of this institution was also very touching and close to my heart.
Overall, a great experience that I would recreate in a heartbeat.

Hopefully the new president will clean house and try to rebuild this crumbling institution that does not value the student as a whole and makes it clear that money is their bottom line regardless of the shoddy service they are providing their campus communities. Portage has a poor reputation in my community and needs to do a better job of treating their employees, students and stakeholders with a quality service and respect and if they cannot get the dollar signs out of their eyes when they look at you, at least put on sunglasses!!

I would start the day by preparing student work stations, turn on Laptops.  The day fills with checking emails, verifying appointments, preparing documents for student meetings, prepare for day events, catalogue library items, Answer and screen calls, consult with on site instructors, assist students with learning through learning strategies.  I really enjoyed who I worked with and communicated on a regular basis with my supervisor.  The hardest part of the job was the commute.

The staff and students at St. Paul campus.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Long probationary period and lack of training.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Inexperienced middle management and rife with nepotism.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Helping students do assignment research.

Things may have changed with the new president, but in the past several people were let go with inadequate reason.warning. Far too much schmoozing and strange decisions from management. Some staff are great, others are just there because they can't get rid of them. Those who should get paid a certain amount due to seniority will often have their hours cut. Don't work there if you can help it.

Working at Portage College was very rewarding. Working with potential students and helping them to achieve their goals was the best. Co workers are very helpful and everyone is willing to help achieve the best outcome for the students.  Great benefits and wage! Enjoyed working there for 13 years!

One of the most soul-sucking parts about working is feeling like your decisions don't matter, that you aren't making a difference. 

Portage isn't like that. 

It's a very fulfilling place to work.

If I wasn't going to further my education I would of stayed working for this educational system. Which says a lot about this place. The people that make up this organization were great and is what makes this place tick. My days at work were always busy and different each day.
