Typically everyone has a smile on their face but don’t be fooled. Some of them do this to get opinions out of you and use it against you. Management is extremely young and when you want to help they use their ideas as their own or tell you that “porter doesn’t work this way” but implement the suggestion you’ve made and make management look like they are a gift from God. There is A LOT of favouritism within the walls at porter which is extremely sad. Unless you are buddy buddy with management have fun moving up in the company because they will come up with anything to keep you in the position you are currently in. There are people in supervising roles that have no clue what is going on and will do anything to please other departments to make themselves look good but yet dump all that work onto the worker bees without any notice. The training is below subpar. You watch a bunch of videos and slides and then you are put out to the “real world” without any proper shadowing to get you up to speed. And if you are a slow learner, people that you work alongside of who smile at you every day will write emails demanding you get fired which isn’t right and I’ve witnessed this a few times towards one of my co workers. If you frequent porters website and see the same positions posted over and over again and wonder why there is such a high turnover rate….well now you know. People get fed up with being treated like dirt and look else where. If you are between the ages of 18-30 porter is the place for you because you can relate to the people. 

Porter is a young regional airline that was filled with fresh ideas and above all was focused on customer service and customer satisfaction.I always enjoyed going above and beyond for all of the friendly faces I'd be greeted with in the airline industry. Between check-in, to boarding the passengers, to grooming the flight, it was a fun work environment where you could keep active, social and busy. 

I was fortunate enough to have a manager who was dedicated to the airline and took care of the employees. We had a good working relationship. During flight time, all the customer service reps and flight crew worked as a team to get the flights out effectively.

The hardest part of my job was not being able to meet a passengers needs due to weather delays and cancellations. Naturally you try to do everything you can for your passengers and sometimes it is impossible to get them to their destination that day. 

Their are so many enjoyable components about working within an airline that outweigh the hard times. By smiling and being friendly to the passengers can really make their flight experience go from a potential nervous one to an amazing one. Laughing and talking with the passengers is one of the most enjoyable parts. Working together in a team with your coworkers and sharing all the hard times together makes it enjoyable. The long hours spent together add up and there becomes a sense of family. 

I am very passionate about customer service and helping people. Porter was an amazing opportunity that lead to great things.

During my time working with Porter, I learned quite a lot from switched on leads and also had the ability to lead a team myself.  The only problem is that aside from a small handful of hard workers who I could do the job seamlessly, sometimes without even talking about our plan of action, the majority of workers are lazy, old timers who have not been in a disciplined work environment OR are new employees who unfortunately learn from the old timers who perpetuate bad habits and laziness.
Beyond the "Porter Values" which are laid out for employees, there were numerous infractions that were never followed up on or resulted in meaningful disciplinary action.
I write this years after officially ending my employment with Porter,  due to friends asking about my work experience and expressing interest in working there themselves.

Good place to work if you're just out of high school and need something on your resume. At the end of the day though, the company is a joke. Placing too much emphasis on completing work regardless of the quality. 

Departments don't communicate in the slightest and if you try to get them to, nothing gets done. Management can't commit to asignmnents or arrangements that are made. Employee turnover is extremely high mainly because they punish employees the same, regardless of what they do. Late one minute? You get written up. It just breeds resentment amongst employees that leads to rebellion. 

Also, management is pretty much controlled by their HR department. Managers don't make decisions without consulting them and it is usually not what is in the best interest of the respective departments.

Departments are extremely under funded, especially the call centre. Upper management doesn't care about the call centre and it is an after thought 90% of the time resulting in short staffing that turns into long hold times that turns into angry callers that turns into angry employees. It's a never ending cycle. This past summer, hold times sat at over an hour for several months due to a low budget and was not addressed until the CEO's friends started to complain to him. 

Porter is the perfect place If you want a job. If you want a career on the other hand, I'd look elsewhere.

This company jet propelled myself to understand our line of work. Porter definitely has some areas to improve with workload and overall Manager/supervisor interaction. I went from apprentice to licensed to some nights being the only qualified personal on the entire workforce. Overtime was abundant and some weeks you would be working 6,7 days. There are times when you are asked to go on overnight trips for days with little preparation and interaction between management or on base supervisors. The crew atmosphere was defiantly the best part of the job. The maintenance facility runs 24/7. The lunchroom is small dark with no real source of entertainment. When you work on the island you are stuck on the island until the ferry is back up and running or you get special permission to use the tunnel. The maintenance vans were always disgusting. Getting the work done fast and quick is taken at a higher regard then should be. Overall Porter is not a bad place to work, but the always looming pressure and constant work gets tiring fast. People get short with each other and its unfortunate because it could have really been a great place to work if just a few small changes would happen.   

The image portrayed to the general public of what Porter Airlines is truly a Flying Refined airline that pushes against the Legacy Carriers and is making a name for itself on the global stage. Sadly once your actually within the fold of the company you quickly realize that although it's not a fear based culture like some national airlines it's very intimidating and one that best represents a secondary school mentality. There are so many wonderful things about this airline that it's employees seem to forget about and only choose to focus on the negative and the divisions between departments especially within the younger rankings. It's such a shame because this airline can go far but change starts in management and sadly even some management have forgotten why they got started in this industry. But there are the good people in the company that truly make it worth going to work everyday and seeing . And if those people weren't at the company putting their passion, ideas and dedication into their departments then the airline wouldn't be what it is today.

Extremely disorganized company with no structure. People are forced to perform 3 roles on minimum wage. Even high level engineers are only earning an average salary. The wash ups rejected by other airlines end up here. Good and talented employees last about a year or two then they flee. Ironically that makes it easier to get promotions because they are always desperate for people. Most of the hiring is done internally. The managers have no idea what they're doing and openly admit they don't like or know how to deal with people. A lot of the departments don't have proper training in place and you are just supposed to learn from the person sitting next to you -  good luck if they hate working there and have one foot out the door as most of the employees do. You will have a fun time learning from them! Plus the commute to the island is awful all year long. Only good thing about working there is discounted flights. Outsiders think Porter is great because their marketing is phenomenal but the buck stops there. Stay away!

Working as a ramp attendant for Porter Airlines was a fast-paced and rewarding experience. The job required strong teamwork, time management, and attention to safety while handling baggage, guiding aircraft, and preparing flights for departure. Every shift was different, which kept the work interesting and engaging. The company promoted a professional yet supportive environment, and coworkers were always willing to help during busy operations. Working outdoors in all weather conditions could be challenging, especially during winter or tight turnaround times, but it helped build resilience and adaptability. One of the best parts of the role was being close to aircraft operations and gaining firsthand experience in the aviation industry. Porter also provided opportunities to learn new skills and develop discipline under pressure. Overall, it was a solid entry point into aviation for anyone who enjoys physical work, teamwork, and a dynamic airport environment.

Its not a bad place to start if you are new to the airline industry. Learned a lot of useful skills that are otherwise departmentalized in bigger airlines. The problem is the workplace attitude amongst the younger staff whom are mostly lazy, gossip a lot, and do not help you unless you are a part of their clique. It feels a lot like a high school in a run down neighbourhood. The biggest problem is management however. They only hire and promote their friends, regardless of work ethic or job performance levels, and openly gossip or set up traps for employees who are not their favourites. They do not support staff during irregular operations and instead blame you for poor work to cover themselves. There is a lot of bullying on the floor.

If you need a stepping stone because you need something to put on your resume, sure you can go ahead... but if you want to have a long lasting career and job satisfaction, then don't work for this company.

Company does not value its employees properly. Pay is horrible to begin with and most people who work for this company lives below the poverty line (even white collar employees). No job security and management does not support advancement - they would rather give the job to inexperienced individuals or to people who are not fit or ready for the role. Management are bullying employees and do not provide the opportunity for creativity in the workplace or show an initiative to increase morale. Huge disparity between Management and Employees.

High turn over rate. A lot of senior and competent employees have started to left the company since last year because of its instability.
