i worked for poundland nearly 4 years. i left due to poorly bad management poorly is a nice way of saying it. this is the liverpool st johns store, management dont care they just sit in the office all day. leave all there coffee mug laying around expecting us to clean it up and do the dishes. some staff leave there empty boxes on trolly and expect others to clean it up for them, management also do this. they always leave the store sort staffed witch leaves to argument and late finishes unpaid. some staff are boss and well some are bad but you get that everywhere you go. when you need help management are no where to be seen apart from the office. also they will never tell you directly what to do they will get someone else to tell you as they cant be bothered from you know where yes the office! there is also no communication from manager and asistant manager they just do there own thing.

Unpaid employee doing 30 hrs a week. And oh my goodness. 

I knew I was in for a tough time when at the interview I was warned 'You're just a number on a page, you can be replaced'. A day would consist of tidying shelves constantly in store or the warehouse, sometimes alone. Then cleaning the entire store between me and another employee after closing. 

The management were very good at their job but they didn't make me feel welcome or wanted. Which was a shame as I got on very well with the other employees and made some good friends. 

Rude customers are a given anywhere but experienced thefts, verbal assault and even had to talk to police. 

Working unpaid was not worth coming into work every day and I was glad to leave.

Not a great place to work. Working conditions are through the roof. Something is always hanging off something warehouse always cluttered with stock which mice and rats have been found but management kept it quiet until someone reported it which proves the dishonesty. Pay is shocking! Minimum wage and expected to work like you’re earning £11 an hour. No time to stop. Running around all day everyday it’s a joke

Poundland has several issues within most cannot be avoided due to it not having many staff, but some can, I spent my time there being told how to do one thing 700 hundred different ways because each higher up has a different way of doing it. That wouldn't be bad on it's on but they spend their time talking down to you and making you feel small when all you really want to do is get on with you job quietly and without fuss, This could be avoided by giving training jobs to one higher up that way everyone would do that one thing the same way.

Poundland claim to be a “friendly and customer driven” company but we all know this is a complete lie. You aren’t even allowed to engage with your own work staff. I was watched for talking to a customer for too long. Really? Forget the management rulebook because most of them play by their own penthouse rules. Not to mention he’s hired all of his family to come and work at our store when none of them can be bothered to even do some work. Don’t bother my store is so corrupt

During my time, I learnt many skills and knowledge needed in retail as I had no been exposed to this kind of work before. The staff were very friendly and helpful and were patient with me as I learnt. The job was difficult at first as I had to learn the swing of things but after a few shifts I found the job to go quite nicely and I definitely appreciated the benefits afterwards.

Worked for them two years ,great colleagues but poor management with barely any skills. No work no life balance no respect for the employees very poor wages long hours lunch brake if youre lucky you'll get 10 min out of 1 hour greedy company only interested in the one pound and not their own staff.

I worked for Poundland on a 12 hr contract on checkouts mostly , Most of the staff were two faced , go tell on u for anything they can find. Management expected u to answer the phone everyday to come in all the time out side your contracted hours . I hated it and was glad to leave

I would arrive for work for ten to nine am. I would then clock in just before nine am. I would then find out what department I would be one. for example if I would be on the shop floor or on tills etc. once I have found out what department I am on I would then carry on my usual activities throughout the day. My usual jobs consisted off serving customers or restocking shelves.

Hi level of stress,always on the run,loads off paper work involved,no thrust what so ever coming from business manager and above,constant changes,you have to reach your target by any means as is the management fault if not,constant availability issues. But loved my team and customers and that made it easier.
