A typical day at work is using CAD to design various projects, using MS office to write reports, data entry and calculations.
I have learnt about a lot of products that are frequently being used on the road side but never get witnessed as one drives by.
Management is helpful in general, usually engaging and most of all, easily approachable.
Happy culture at work due to regular engagement with collogues and nice across the company.
Unawareness of the products need to be used during the design process.
Generally, helpful, pleasant and cheering staff across the company.

I started off at Powell Contracting as a Project Coordinator, and while the job was tough, it was extremely rewarding. I feel like my experience at Powell Contracting helped kickstart my career and taught me a lot I will use as I go forward.

Due to the nature of the road building businesses hours could be long or kind of odd (you have to be on-call), however Powell Contracting was also very flexible with work hours (could leave early when it was a slow day).

Great place to grow and develop as a professional; works with very notable, high profile, and reputable Canadian clients . Very team-oriented culture. Management open and very approachable — both with respect to day-to-day operations and with to long-term growth initiatives. Generous vacation time, health benefits, education support (not formal policy but treated on case-by-case basis) We have a great team and I am happy to be a part of it.

Good company to work for but customers are the worst. Recently left and got a supervisor position and seem one of the customers on my site and kicked him off instantly and told him you were rude to me and the tables have turned good buy. Pay is good can’t complain. Con is if you have a 12 hour shift during the morning you might be working at night as well then working in the morning with only 3 hours of sleep

This is an excellent place to learn the construction industry. They really do pay alot of money for safety and training. This is the place where it builds you into an efficient machine but unfortunately all of management feel that toying with people over workers rights and only rewarding them with no work causing them to find new jobs.

Great place to work that is inclusive and focuses on your growth as a person and as part of the organization. Gives back to the community a lot and fosters a welcoming and open workplace. 
Hardest part of the job is the hours, they are longer than some companies. 
Best part of the job is the people and the onsite kitchen we have on site (basically a cafeteria) where our meals are paid for.

Lots of opportunity to advance or move to a better fit within the group, paid lunch daily, courtesy and respect within the workplace promoted actively, many women in leadership positions. I would say the unusual employer contribution to employee retirement plan is second probably only to a government job. You will be expected to actually do your job, however, and to be good at it.

Powell is a place that offers endless opportunity and challenges. If you are ambitious and looking for a place to grow and explore ideas through innovation, this place will allow for you to flourish and grow. Fast paced environment with wonderful people to work with. I find this workplace keeps me engaged and challenges me to be my best.

So happy to work for a company with such great opportunity based on how quickly its growing. The industry is interesting and fast paced, which always has me learning on a daily basis. I feel confident in my contributions and believe there is a great career path here. Lots of perks working with Powell as well! I can see myself having a long career here!

Work could be hard when there was deadlines but there was generally good work-life balance, good pay and benefits as well
