This is a health care environment so it truly is a 24/7 365 environment.  There is a large selection of applications and technology to insure is working as well as possible at all times.  A typical work day consists of planned work on the current projects fit around issues that occur and require immediate attention.  The atmosphere of the IT dept is enjoyed and humorous while each member does recognize that patient lives could be at risk if they don't do their job.  The hardest part to deal with is this is a government funded institution and sometimes there is just not the budget available to achieve some goals in a timely manner if at all.  The most enjoyable part of the job was working with a dedicated staff that knew their jobs and worked hard to insure the functions they were responsible for performed.

I did work prairie mountain health just one month and half only. My intentions were to work longer time & contribute, but the employment didn't last due to micro managing environment/culture of the department. Truth is professionals cannot be micromanaged. Silo type working style in the department.
If anybody in a leadership position he or she need to aware he or she leading people not just like himself or herself.The workplace is highly policy centric and not new employee centric.
Anyway the working environment is challenging and lots of opportunity for improvement, but it is difficult because there isn't a place for curious perspectives to thrive to ideas and way towards innovation. the ratings remains in a low key just accredited. They need to understands and need to work on key Objective Results as a frame work and develop. Thank You.

For anyone looking for a great job and fantastic group of people - this job is for you. I started off as casual. I was concerned casual hours wasn't going to cut it - I needed full time hours - I applied anyway. My way of thinking - I won't get any shifts if I don't apply. It took a couple of weeks for me to get all my required paperwork in order - but once that was sorted - I started orientation (training) within a team environment - different members helped to train me.  That was great because this team gets the job done - sometimes just a little differently - as long as the policies are being followed - eg - writing a letter - do you use your right or left hand; or use a keyboard? Either hand and the keyboard will get your letter done!! Once training was complete - I am picking up lots of shifts. Looking forward in working with you - see you on the flip side!!

Based on my experience:

Pros: The hourly wage is good (Blue Cross reductions every other paycheque can be a little brutal), 7.75 hour shifts don't usually drag, schedule is on a fixed six week rotation, work can pretty active (lots of walking, scrubbing, folding, etc) and it isn't retail or kitchen.

Cons: Job becomes repetitive FAST, management is a mess, addressing problems with other staff are met with false hope or dismissed outright due to red tape, morale is low, LOTS of gossip, is unionized but only to protect those who don't want to actually work while there, the Supervisor rotation for this site is terrible, site is old and rooms don't look clean even if you spent an hour (or more) working on getting them clean, there is very little teamwork and it would be best to not trust ANYONE.

I learned creative ways to engage children and parents in playing games with their babies and siblings.

Recording and observing behaviours of families with young children and assessing their needs and potential risks for those with low socio - economic status.
 
Dynamic workplace culture and diversity, regular staff meetings and social gatherings to encourage positive work-place morale.

I found extensive paperwork to be the most challenging, but the most rewarding part of the position was seeing families engage their babies in healthy play with the skills they learned through my program.

While there are many great aspects to working here, I would recommend avoiding the housekeeping department. Management's inability to handle mental health crisis' among their staff is mind boggling. It does not create a healthy working environment when management criticizes their workers for having mental health breakdowns that they cannot control. It is also hard to enjoy your work when any issues you have that are brought to management are dismissed as "it's who they are, we can't expect them to change" and "I'm sure that's not what they meant/ how they meant it".
If you don't mind being micromanaged, put down in front of peers by management, and singled out for an illness outside of your control, then this is the place for you.

Working for PMH for many years, I appreciate how rewarding this job was and the experiences I had during my time there. Although in the earlier years it was a place where the philosophy was focused on the client and meeting ALL their needs, it dwindled down to more of a business mindset, leaving the client feeling more like a "number"than the person who contributed to our society for many decades. It was very disheartening and hard for me, to be considered part of this..it was not my way! I believe that we should always try to remember to treat others, as we would like to be treated..with respect and dignity! If PMH would return back to this mindset, they would an above & beyond employer to work for!

12hr shifts with only 30min relief on night shifts. 35 pt's to give meds, assess, and treatments. 

Some of the laziest care aides I have ever worked with. Some are great, but most know they are in short supply and management is stuck with poor quality staff.

Some of the hardest working nursing staff I have ever worked with.

Residents are cared for well, except for incontinence and skin breakdown issues, hence the lazy care aides.

Residents are allowed to go behind the nursing desk/area and paperwork routinely goes missing, as residents take confidential documents of other residents. Management is unwilling to address this safety issue and goes by the old saying "That is the way we have always done it". A very dangerous practice.

This is in the ELKWOOD MANOR in ELKHORN. This isn't the best job in the world but its enough to get somebody by. The only thing nice about this job is getting to see a smile on the residents face on a day to day basis. Other then that everything pretty much sucks. There isn't one person on the staff that has anything nice to say about someone else. There is more drama and gossiping between more staff members in there then i have ever seen in high school. Mainly between the kitchen staff. The day to day work sucks. you cant walk by someone in the hallway without getting glared at by somebody. Any of the work you do is never appreciated. The management sucks. I cant wait go home even before i get there for my shift. Don't recommend this job. You'll hate your life.

I was at the lodge /hospital/ER. I loved my residents, patients and what I did each day . Staff talked terrible about residents but still have a job , I was let go being on my phone in our report room . Higher management treated lower paid staff terrible. Senior employees treated new employees like garbage, back stabbed. I have been in this career for 22 years and have never been treated 







so terrible in my life. I was forced to baseclly quit by union due to my higher up lying specific to higher to have me fired. Then when it came to me applying at new employment they gave the worst reference. It honestly broke my heart due to the fact I loved my job and my residents. I was basically kicked in the face for my care but really appreciated families telling me they lost one of the best. 😡
