They could not even be bothered to provide shovels and rakes I had more than one site  where we had no machines, one we had to wait 2 days the other we had to wait 3 days, management will make you plead with other trades till they lend you their equipment out of pity then management will blame you for not being ahead at site if you stay at that site long enough to get scolded that is,  foremen take no accountability  if there is any I only met one the whole time I was there.  Nepotism and favoritism will get you further than any amount of work.  I hoped to make something positive out of the experience but I could not all I learned is that some companies don't want to change.  They don't even have the curtesy to bring first aid kits to their bigger/ long-term sites. I can under stand if maybe at one or two sites but they don't even try they gave me  an angle grinder with no 
guard and a broken batter I had to take my hood string and twine from a package I got to tie the battery into the grinder, a buddy of mine was sent 4 temporary laborers and no tools he had to go buy them tools.  I can understand a shovel and a few wheel barrows are not hard to acquire but I should not need to supply my bosses and work with equipment. I hope they learn and grow but do not think they want to.

Started working here, thought it was going to be a great opportunity. Unfortunately I came to find that they operate in a very dangerous, non caring way with production being the only concern. I drove a truck without horn or back up alarm for 2 months before they got it fixed. There was an ABS issue that could have ended my life at any time while driving and someone else's. 

Transportation agencies would be smart to keep an eye on this company, one of the main reasons to get fired while driving from this company was to actually end up in a weight scale, They demand that you find a way around because their trucks are in absolutely terrible shape.  Toxic management and owners. Constantly warned not to do anything bad in front of them or I'll get the boot first thing. 


I came into the company with next to no experience and ended up on a shovel for a few weeks. Pretty quickly I hurt my wrist and had to go on WCB. 
After it had healed up a week later, they sent me home and told me I'd get a text telling me when and where I would be working next. 

I reached out to the foreman and the supervisor, did not receive a single text back. I was never contacted about work again and received a record of employment in the mail. 

I do not recommend this company, they lack organization, many employees are completely devoid of professionalism or people skills, and the safety culture is basically non existant. 

Prattco excavating is one of the longest lasting excavation demolition companies In calgary alberta. They offer you around full-time.Employment with a great work life balance. Unlike some companies in calgary that require you to work every single weekend  during the summer months.
They have well over a 150 employees. And 50.
Percent of the company has been there for more than five years or longer so that speaks to the companys Management and ownership.

My overall experience with Prattco Excavating ltd through the last 6-7 years working there have been great. Everyone is working so hard to bolster our company's success, and the leadership is doing a great job with leading by example and continuing to bring in great employees.

Dealing with the insecure management

They are always looking for someone to blame 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Overworked under appreciated.

Always a hassle to get on the phone with a supervisor because they never picked up. Basically sent you to site and expect you know exactly what to do. Lots of favoritism towards specific employees. Supervisors will make false promises almost everyday. Machines rarely ever get fixed, and if they do then its a very poor job. If you are begging for something to get fixed it seems to prolong the process.

The  people I  worked with were great. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Senior management was a bit paranoid,  lack of trust in their employees.

Overall it's not a bad company to work for, the pay is fair and you work independently

Most of the equipment is neglected, foremen are so overworked you barely hear from them, and you pay for most of your benefit plan 

Most employees are good to work with though
