I worked here 2 years and 1 month. It was my first real job where I could use my Class 1. I learned a lot very fast doing Canada only runs and eventually into the USA. The learning curve with Preferred is very fast and could be stressful when I first started out, luckily most of the people in the office have experience out in the field and can give advice for tying down awkward loads, how to place loads for proper weights the first time etc, one of their dispatchers was able to explain things when I needed a little bit of help very easily due to his open deck and driving experience. The people in the office know you by your name and for the most part you feel respected by them, all the office employees are personable and will work with you not against you. It is THE place to apply if you just got your Class 1 as they do not push you too hard, they will respect your time off requests. All of their trucks are pretty new so most of them have bluetooth, the sleepers on the trucks are big with fridges and inverters. All trucks have APUs but the reliability of these varies. The trucks all have idle timers so if your APU isn't working your trucks engine will not idle if the temp outside is not in a certain range. When I worked here all trucks had Paccar MX-13 engines which I grew to despise after multiple breakdowns due only to DEF problems and this is one of the main reasons why I was very frustrated with this engine the constant worrying of the DEF system screwing up on me and having to get towed to get it fixed etc. I only drove 13 speed manual trucks at Preferred but I am not sure how many of their trucks are now automatics but I stayed here for quite some time just because I loved driving manual T800, even with the DEF emissions issues. All their trucks to my knowledge have halogen headlights which aren't that bright and are not that reliable either. Their trucks all have headache racks with all up to date ratchet binders and chains and if you are missing any of these the pretty good shop staff will give you what you need. One thing I couldn't stand doing at Preferred was tarping loads, even though I beautifully tarped most of my loads and would always make sure any sharp corners of a load were covered from damaging their tarps I would always end up with holes in my tarps, I don't know if its just a tarp quality issue or just my luck but there was nothing more stressful to me than looking in my mirror and seeing tarps flapping around because one little hole was letting in wind. Preferred does have SOME kind of room for advancement as far as different kinds of loads goes as I eventually would start hauling over size loads mainly going down to Texas. They have some pretty dedicated customers which can lead to steady runs where you pretty much know what you're going to be hauling and back hauling, I wouldn't have to sit and wait after unloading for a new load too often but when you do, I wouldn't get "layover pay" for until after 2 days of sitting, most companies do this as well but I think its kind of a slap in the face. They pay by the mile which is not my preferred method, back when I started the pay was a starting rate for 90 day probation and then normal base rate and it would go upwards if you are oversize. In 2022 they gave a raise to everyone and the base went up I believe and the day I left I was told they gave another rate raise which was actually pretty decent. They pay you well for tarping and LTL drops and pick ups. Preferred ALWAYS has work and there really isn't a slow time for them. The main reason I left was because of the pay as it wasn't enough for me to save anything and I was really just living pay cheque to pay cheque (you can claim meal expenses when you do your taxes since Preferred does not give any money for food drink etc) anyways Preferred is a good place to work if you like to be on the road often, experience different places in Canada and USA. Especially with the pay raises, I would definitely recommend working here if you are just starting out as I got my Class 1 license in 2019 and I am already a winch tractor operator and heavy hauler with a very reputable company. I wouldn't have this experience without Preferred Carriers, I do miss working here but I reached my ceiling with them and its not like they were going to move into specialised hauling to my knowledge. The 2 best things about working at Preferred was the personable office staff that treat you like a human and the constant work with little to no down time.

The company is 2 months+ behind paying their drivers/staff. Thought it was going to be a good place to work as I’m a new driver but after 7 weeks still not being paid for a single trip (17) I have done and being expected to keep going I thought wrong. The more you inquire about pay the more you will get told they will have it figured out by the end of the week and they don’t. The Google reviews are legit! With this I can’t say the company pay scale is any good as it is non existent. Stay away from these guys. 

I only worked here for 3 months. In that time I was home for a total of 8 days. They would park you for days after a 3day run. No layover pay until after 48hrs off. Your lucky if you clear 2500$/month. HR pesters you if you take detours to avoid traffic/weather/poor roads. Trucks are new but mattresses are junk. Owner/ops are overcharged for insurance and aren't given alot of notice when premiums increase. No a place to get ahead or stay long. 

A typical day in admin position would entail
-Answering phones
-Invoicing customers
-Entering payables
-Chasing drivers to hand in their paperwork so invoicing can be completed 
-Going through drivers envelopes and tracking their expenses
-Contacting health benefits company with questions/concerns from employees 
-Recording and entering permits for loads
-Entering deposits into system

I'm currently employed and loving every single day! I have been here for almost 3 years. Preferred has all newer trucks. Staff is very courteous and respectful of drivers. 
I love to be on the road for long stretches and company allows me to do that. Of course requested days off are also respected. 
Preferred carriers has come a long way in the last few years. They're not looking back and neither am I!

They dont care if you get demerits to cover for expired cvips or other major issues.
if you're new, you're going to spend a lot of times stranded without loads at gas stations without pay.
pay is garbage. my advice, find a better company. they will hire another driver to replace you as soon as its time for your raise.
theyre not gonna spend anything on you including ppe, even though theyll say its on them.

Must be able to learn quickly and plan ahead to arrive at destinations on time. One must have the ability to expect the unexpected and perform at a high level in all type of weather conditions.
 Planning proper load placement and securement while working in harsh conditions.
 Seeing places that one would not normally get to see without planning a vacation.

Preferred team works hard. Everyone works together to achieve the same common goals. The drivers are all good people who work hard. The office is a fun, warm atmosphere. You are not just a "number" on the payroll, you are part of a family. Preferred takes on new drivers and tries hard to train and develop good hardworking Class 1 drivers. I recommend working for Preferred Carriers.

Family run Canada and USA company. Great drivers. owner has very high and sometimes unreachable goals. his wife comes in and snoops through your desk at night. If you lock any of your drawers  to keep personal info safe. she accuses you of hiding drugs in your desk. and wants you let go.

Must enjoy trucking, can be gone 15-21 days or more if you wish. They were fair will layover pay. Equipment is good but it’s up to the driver to maintain load securement devices, SO DON’T BE LAZY. If you don’t like chaining and tarping this isn’t for you.
