Preply’s work environment and culture are generally supportive and encouraging. The platform is structured to empower tutors with the flexibility to work independently, set their own hours, and build their teaching styles. Many tutors appreciate the global community aspect, where they can connect with diverse students and exchange cultural perspectives, making it both a learning and teaching experience. Preply also offers resources and tools to aid in tutoring, enhancing the overall experience for both teachers and students.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day at Preply usually involves scheduling lessons based on your availability, preparing customized lesson plans, and engaging with students in one-on-one virtual sessions. Since you set your own schedule, you can manage your time flexibly around your personal or professional commitments. Most tutors start by reviewing their upcoming students’ profiles or previous lessons to tailor the content for each session.

Between lessons, tutors often use the platform’s tools to track student progress, respond to messages, and adjust availability. Some days may involve back-to-back sessions, while others are more relaxed, depending on your chosen workload.

I have been a member for a long time, and  unfortunately have not yet had any active students. In comparison, Varsity gave me two or three student offers which I accepted, but they were assigned to someone else. Despite this, I remain motivated and eager to provide quality lessons. I hope to gain experience soon and contribute positively to students’ learning, adapting to management guidelines and workplace culture. The most enjoyable part will be seeing students succeed, while the hardest part so far has been not having the chance to teach yet.


The way management works not improving, but getting more alike a bot. The pay is in dollars so you lose and your learner lose unless they pay a lot. It is very ignorant way and very formal. You are treated as if you are a computer yourself. A lot of flexibility disappeared, 24/7 support etc. A lot of my teenagers students have been wiped from my schedule and for no reason. We had classes and then put hours.
33% off pay is not a great deal. I would not pay now that money for the work they do and service provided.

It's okay.  You've got to be patient before you get students.  The main thing that is terrible about this company is that you don't get paid for trial lessons so you actually end up doing a lot of free work.  Like hours and hours of free classes.  And they take a lot of commission as well. The support team is great though they always reply super quickly. 

I was happy when I started at Preply. I found a  regular student in a week. But because I deleted my account in October for a good reason, I could never get back. If the support or management was present to solve my problem, I would never delete my account although I was making just a little bit of money.

freelancing and attracting students from all over the world.

Having a full schedule. Having students who are A1 level students.

fair because the administration is always inviting the teachers to seminars.

- positive and open with live webinars and an academy for tutors to upgrade skills

If you start out as tutor you can complete all relevant tutor instruction modules and understand the Virtual Classroom. The VC offers good structure to build a curriculum and lesson plan for your students. Takes time to build up a student base. Great place to connect with students and teach conversation.
High Commission structure when you start out

4 key points:
~ Good if you need experience to learn the ropes of language teaching
BUT
~ Takes a long time to develop a reputation & so your rate stays low (in order to get learners)
~ Most learners don't want to pay much, so it's difficult to earn a decent rate
~ Preply takes 33%(!!!) of your payment charge to learners - keeping it attractive for their customers but TERRIBLE for teachers trying to earn a living


Do your best and avoid working in this company. 
They block you profile for nonse reasons, very unfair money commissions. 
They block your account because they believe it is suspicious. 
Makes no sense at all.  
I would recommend iTalk, much much better rates and attitude to teachers.
