Pro Oil Change

The owners are super nice people but not really around and don’t live in Barrie, the head manager is a good guy and a very solid employee, the pay isn’t that bad at all, a lot of good humour that makes days easier.

A “coffee run” is almost never discouraged.

Also, Pro-Oil Change is one of the very few automotive based companies that I consider trustworthy, being fair and honest to customers is #1 priority at Pro-Oil Change ( I don’t want my name attached to anything shady or crooked so the integrity of Pro-Oil Change mattered to me!).

However, that is pretty much everything good I can say about working at Pro-Oil Change.....the hours are made almost 2 months in advance (by the owners not the head manager) and as a new employee you will get ZERO say in what days you are off (don’t expect more than 1 full weekend off during the course of a month).

Pro-Oil Change claims that days off are on a “first come first served” basis but that is far from the truth, fact is long time employees get priority and everyone else gets what’s left over.

Also, this in not a Mon-Fri job, you work 4 days a week and the days you’re scheduled are all over the map.

As an example, you may be scheduled to work Mon, Wed, Sat & Sun and then the next week is Mon, Tue, Fri & Sat etc...

If by chance you need an unscheduled day off for ANY reason (even medical)....it will be UP TO YOU to find someone to cover your shift.
If you can’t find someone to cover your shift, expect to feel like your employment is at risk.

Pro-Oil Change in Barrie, is in the worst location possible, super small parking lot with a Starbucks chalked full of entitled halfwit idiots that will hold up traffic, double park and block customers vehicles, park in disabled spots etc... *this is an everyday issue*

85% of the Pro-Oil Change customers are beyond remedial, anything you tell them goes in one ear and right out the other with nothing retained. *again, an everyday issue*

At least 3-4 times a month you get some genius that shows up unannounced and just proceeds to drive his vehicle into the bay without warning (good way to end up seriously injured or dead).

Eat when you can is the standing rule at Pro-Oil Change!
If a vehicle comes into the bay while you’re trying to eat lunch, you’re expected to put your food down and go back to work....however, I will admit that a few guys (including the head manager) if they see you trying to eat when a vehicle shows up they will tell you to finish your food and they’ll complete the work for you (those guys were awesome!)

If you’re young, with no spouse or kids, no social life and the ability to handle stress like a saint...then Pro-Oil Change is the company for you!

If you have a spouse and/or children, or a social life (on the weekends) and have troubles dealing with stupidity....avoid Pro-Oil Change like the plague.

Pro-Oil Change DOES NOT have set “breaks”.....you take a break when and IF you can (11hr shifts).

Pro-Oil Change DOES NOT offer Part-Time Hours.

There is always something new to learn in the automotive industry. We have amazing management that gives us a great challenge but also stands right by our side when we need help. Our manager always is willing to teach if we are willing to learn. Our area manager will always put the guest first... he has even stands beside us when we are busy to help serve guests. As for the team it’s like a family... we laugh, learn and believe in each other.

It’s hard work but so worth it. As for the culture it’s guests first. We won’t recommend anything if we feel it isn’t due. They don’t look for sales people they look for people who are interested and believe in preventative maintenance.

The interview process is easy. They give people a chance to prove themselves.

A typical day at work was an eight to eleven hour work day that consisted of providing fast and efficient oil changes and other related services.  I learned a lot at this job considering I only had basic knowledge of auto fluid exchanges etc. It was generally a very fast paced environment which relied mainly on teamwork.  Co-workers were generally fantastic and we were a great team.  

Hardest part of the job was that we were usually short staffed which created long hours and added strain on the team.

Most enjoyable part of my job was working with the team members I had, and interacting with our regular customers.

I learned a lot of new information about car maintenance, how to deal with unsatisfied customers, understood and got taught how to please the customer. The management was excellent, the owner of the company actually was a floor worker and everyone that was employed there created a phenomenal environment to work in, very easy people to get along with and everyone always helped each other out. The hardest part of the job was not having a scheduled break, sometimes we would not get a chance to eat lunch. The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to assist customers with many different things; maintenance on their cars, directions, and just being that one person that they relief all their stress on.

I have worked for pro oil for about 3 years, after which became under new management. After the change over, the new manager couldn't make the schedule properly, missing shifts entily and then gloating how he went to school to for H.R.
 Management had no idea on how to close the shop left doors open all night, yet 1 week later I was written up for taking to many cars. My fellow colleagues are the reason I hung around at the job for as long as I did, and now all my fellow colleagues are leaving because of this new, manager.  Not to mention the extremely long hours and poor treatment.

Days usually run smooth, and theres never a day that goes by that you won't learn something new. 
Management is good, the place is ran by men who know what needs to be done, and how to efficiently follow up. 
Co- workers become something similar to family, and communication is what keeps them all close. 
Hardest part of the job is simply up to you, if you like to work there shouldn't be any problems. It all depends on your work ethics. 
I enjoy just working in an environment that offers opportunities to meet new people everyday, and can have a little fun once in a while.

the managers were awesome. They wanted you to learn, and to succeed. They helped you and the whole staff team works as a family. Not just the managers, but all the staff were awesome to work with. Everyone helped everyone to make things easy, smooth, and flawless. Very great team. In terms of other aspects, the managers were always very understanding about sick days, if you get sick, they understand that it's going to last a few days, and they wont hold it against you so long qs you dont abuse them and try to give notice, as much qs possible.

Overall it's not a bad company to work for, I was with them for 2 years, was recognized pretty quickly for my work ethic and as such received raises, however a lot of the locations are owned individually, and the owner I had the pleasure of working for was a fantastic guy to work for and talk to, but was very cheap on wages and such. Also the micromanagement was dreadful.

It was a very busy office with daily, weekly and monthly reports. The reports went directly to the vice president and president of the company. It was a small staff at head office where I worked. Sometimes it was just me there all day. The commute was much shorter than the previous position I held in Mississauga. I enjoyed getting through traffic quicker.

The boss at pro oil in London Ontario had more time and money invested in his house and cars then he did in his businesses. Was not very understanding of any of his employees.
