No growth, no development, no opportunities, no appreciation for the work you do.

Unsafe work place and it’s never corrected. 

VPS has no workplace culture - they don not care about you. 

You are not accepted by the Costco staff as they have no respect for VPS, the company or the OTTAWA travelling manager who represents the company so it then trickles down to the VPS hourly employees.

The management is unprofessional from head office to the ‘regional manager’ who handles all the Ottawa stores.

Hardest part of the job is the fact that you work so hard for NO MONEY, NO RAISES, NO BENEFITs and on top of it you’re treated poorly by your manager.

You don’t learn anything. You actually have to turn your brain off as you enter the door in the morning so you can tolerate the intolerable. 

Most enjoyable part of the job is the access to Costco, and seeing how a professional business runs. 




The job began well, being part time alternating hours avg. 40hrs/2wks
 I ended up scheduled every day of the week with a mere 10hrs off between shifts, leaving me barely able to sleep and function within my family. 
My probation period seemingly ended within the past week, and I was let go with no reasoning despite the many praises I had received from other employees with VPS and from Costco management themselves. 
Don’t make a request for one day off a week or then they’ll switch your schedule and make you work weekends too ! 
I was evidently their best worker as many other employees had been leaving the store for hours while on shift, being paid to lie and do nothing.
This is a great place for a probation period sure but don’t plan on staying long term unless you’re a you-know-what. 


Typical day: Way understaffed.
What I have learned: nothing. This job is so monotonous and requires no thought process at all. 
Management: Unprofessional at all times. Ottawa manager. 
Culture: No work place culture.
Very unsafe work place physically for VPS staff as we’re not Costco employees so we’re not kept safe, or cared for in that regard. 
Hardest part of job- work is very hard and physical. VPs is low paid hired help working along side very well paid Costco employees. It makes you depressed and feeling a lack of motivation. 
Enjoyable part of job: the cheap resto hot dogs.

Flexibility
Being able to communicate and help customers

Trying to get the floor prepared and stocked before opening

Very Good your pretty much have the ability to work alone



What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Checking expiration dates filling and shelves making everything precentable

worked very hard but was never appreciated for it, asked for more hours very often but even after working for 2 years was never given more than 5 hours. felt very disrespected, undervalued, underappreciated and neglected. Would never recommend this job long term, no benefits,  a disgusting raise(i dont think i even got the promised yearly raise).  Overall very bad experience, especially when it came to dealing with the supervisor.

Do not waste your time.
The pay rate is degrading. The 10 cents a year raise (that you don’t even get- or conversely, have to beg for) is degrading.
No future, growth or advancement in the job or the company. Definition of dead end. 
No raises, no promotions. 
Typical day at work is the  same thing every day, for the same pay every year, to not even make enough to live. 
Very understaffed. 
Very unprofessional. 


What is the best part of working at the company?
Early morning hours still lots of time to spend with my kids and family

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Nothing yet but if there will be any it probably be when stock isn't there

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very fun and outgoing people so far and pretty straight forward

I've worked 17 years at the same place...
That means a lot to me!
This is the only job I kept for more than ten years because I received more than a salary.
I made good friends and felt useful.

Promotions VPS is a good place to work, I have been there for over 10 years and they have treated me well.  Work in a fast paced environment stocking shelves and merchandising tables full of baked goods brought by delivery for Costco members.
