One of the worst outfits I've worked for. No tools, no material, no coordination, no help or mentoring. 

They will not go to bat for better wages or conditions on the jobsite, for example I worked at nutrien redwater in the winter during COVID. No microwaves allowed in the subpar tents they had for contractors, yet you go into their staff offices and they have microwaves, coffeemakers and vending machines for days. Raise the issue with management and we get told that's just the way it is. 

The worst project managers I've ever had, no coordination or planning, they had us pulling cable 30 ft in the air with no cable tray built and just hanging it so 'we can get ahead on terminations'. 

Zero accountability, the amount of mediocre quality work done by my coworkers, guys missing one or two days every week and still having a job.

Good luck working a consistent schedule, the amount of times I was left sitting in the summer or working less than 30 hours a week after management spent the winter gloating about how much work they had lined up ahead. 

Any capable electricians quickly move on from this company so trying to get any constructive mentoring is near impossible. The foreman/supervisors will talk down or possibly scream at you for going too slow or making mistakes rather than assign you a good mentor. 

The wages are the bottom of the barrel, and they've hardly gone up post COVID compared to the majority of the industry. 

1/10, I wouldn't touch this company with a 30ft pole, only work here as an absolute last resort if your EI is about to run out. 

This company has officially hit rock bottom when it comes to pay in the oil patch. The hourly rate is the lowest in the patch, along with the worst pension, RSP, and benefits packages. Leadership is sorely lacking- many supervisors are promoted without the skills or support to handle the role effectively. Accountability is almost nonexistent.
 Some projects are run so poorly that workers regularly deal with missing materials or tools, making the job harder and more frustrating than it needs to be.  On one larger job our lunch trailer was taken away mid-winter and we had to take lunch in cramped vans or trucks with no access to hot water or microwaves etc and inexperienced foremen bird-dogging us from a distance from their vehicles.
Unsurprisingly, the result is huge staff turnover, with experienced and skilled workers constantly leaving for better opportunities elsewhere. They are extremely cheap in every single aspect.

Pronghorn is a place to get experience from and nothing else. You’ll never move ahead and you’ll always be stagnant in your career.  Too much overhead, they constantly make workers (who make the company money and represent pronghorn itself with high expectations) take the hit with industry leading Low wages, race to the bottom style of bidding. I can honestly list a slew of ‘cons’ but no one is stopping you if you’re desperate for a job…this is what they bank on in the long run. Desperate workers and young workers who need experience. They don’t believe in women building futures as they employ none and are 100% not a progressive company. What matters? The bottom line for CEO, Superintendent, and upper management. Find out for yourself go ahead. 

The work culture was the worst I've been a part of. No accountability for workers, the same guys that everyone sends packing just getting rotated between different projects. Those workers toxic behaviors then cause other workers to see how little they do without consequence, and it becomes and endless chain. As a foreman when you get these guys it's like having a hand tied behind your back, even worse on smaller projects, because there is less room in the bids to eat inneficiencies.  Often different projects home to home 13.5-14 hour days with no travel and only getting payed 10-11 hours. Usually for the lowest rates in industrial industry, little to no rrsp matching(The first thing they will cut, they make it clear they don't care about your future). 

Great company , very safety oriented and professional. pronghorn is just big enough to land larger projects yet still send out the acting president of the company (whom I’ve met on multiple occasions ) to meet every field employee and they encourage feed back from the field offices. The pay/benefits unfortunately is stagnant within the company and as I mentioned in the summary , it’s a great environment if you really want to learn but some of the job advancements are either non-existent or seem to be held by the same person year after year.

When times are good it's a okay place to work if you don't mind being the lowest paid trade onsite. But when times get a bit rough look out. Say good bye to RRSP matching, travel pay, and wage cuts even if it's a bid job. The travel was a huge down fall, 8-10hrs in a crammed suburban. After I decided to better myself I was shocked at how much better things got. People weren't worried about pay cuts every day, we weren't the lowest paid on site, rrsp, pension and hour bank benefits were a thing, and provided flights was great instead of hi way.

They hire for a big project and then lay you off when it’s done. 
No different with most contracting companies along with stagnated wages that haven’t seen an increase in 20+ years.
The lack of loyalty and dedicated employees is largely due to the rise of these “get big quick” strategies. District managers of companies are forced to run these models due to above pressure fuelled by the greed and corruption at the top. 


My employment with Pronghorn was actually pretty great. I didnt find management to high on any pedestal, co-workers were very nice to within reason. I learned lots while I was employed here, living in camp was very nice as well. We were taken care of very well. I've been able to move around the company easily, I went from camp to modyards with a simple request via email to management. It's just too bad the economy had to fall leading to my decision to leave and find work elsewhere.

What is the best part of working at the company?
People and the Crews you work with. Management / Supervision can be pretty good, or meh depending on who. But that’s everywhere.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Living and working away from home. Wish I was home more.

Fairly positive. Good crews, decent supervision and management for the group I’m with.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Wake up - go to work - work - finish work - go back to camp. Repeat x14 times and then go home.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Great group of people and they have a lot of work.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Some of the clients are difficult to work for but you give it your best and move on.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Great and a pleasure to work for.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Normal every day E/ I work and you get great support from the supervisors.
