I worked at Providence both as a Teaching/Therapeutic Assistant and then upon finishing my BEd returned to Providence as a teacher. My professional learning and growth during my time at Providence has been incredibly impactful and valuable I am the teacher I am today because of my time at Providence. While it can be a challenging and at times stressful job due to the demographic of children at the school, Providence has one of the best work place environments I have ever been a part of. The staff is incredibly professional and helpful, other teachers are so willing to collaborate with one another and share ideas. Management is incredibly understanding and experienced,  all the managers at Providence have worked on the front lines, they have been in the classrooms and I found this really translated into their understanding of their employees and what they do everyday. I would go back to work at Providence in a heart beat and highly recommend it to families who are looking for a special education program, along with any friends or acquaintances I have looking for a rewarding job. 

The most enjoyable parts of the job are working with the children, but this is also the most difficult part of the job because there are lots of challenging behaviours and little support. Expect to be bitten, hit, kicked and scratched routinely and this is considered a normal part of the job. Children physically harm one another and there are little-no repercussions for these actions, or actions taken to make the classroom a safer place.  Teachers are the team leads in the classroom but offer little guidance or support for the assistants. The expectations for assistants are not clear, yet you will be called out for not following them. I love the larger mission of the company but this job is very stressful. 

I worked here for 2 years, I enjoyed the team I worked with but there was very little support from management and definitely underpaid for the work you do. You deal with a lot of challenging situations in the classroom and get basically no recognition or support from management. It’s a rewarding job as you are helping children with disabilities and their families but there is not enough support or staff in one room to have 15 children who need one on one support and the children in the classroom become more challenging every year yet the support and pay doesn’t change more then $1 a year. 

Providence used to be a great place to work and had very little turnover, but the way management treats some of their staff has caused so many great employees to quit. They play favourites and engage in nepotism. They reward staff that tell on other coworkers and you never feel secure in your job. 

The work is rewarding and coworkers/team members are generally amazing people. Good benefits. Paid holidays that are taken when the kids have theirs so you get Christmas and a spring break, which is nice, but it’s very difficult to take holidays outside those times. 

I was only at Providence for a short time… during my time there, I was told I would be mentored into my teaching role but was quickly thrown in with little training. The staff are very cliquey and often talk about others when they are not in the room. It’s clear there are favourites and if you aren’t one of them, they don’t offer support. Your TA’s will often go behind your back to try and make you look bad if you are new to the program. There is a lack of supports by the site coordinator… If you value your mental health, don’t work here. 

Working at Providence was a really rewarding experience because you can see and track each child’s progress over the school year. The families are amazing and so appreciative of everything staff at the school do to help their child grow and flourish. 
That being said, upper management was extremely frustrating to work with. 

The work was repetitive at times, but I thoroughly enjoyed my time working for Providence. When my temporary position ended, I parted on good terms with all of my coworkers and other people worked around.

I was always able to work mostly in clean and open environments, and always had access to all the equipment and supplies I needed.

The poeple and organization culture is very welcoming and inclusive. The new employees are given detailed ondoarding and time to settle into the new workplace. The senior management and employees are highly invested in the cause they are working for. It is heart warming to have people around who have their heart in the right place and are super passionate about it. 

I had the pleasure of working with Providence as a Teaching and Therapeutic Assistant, and I couldn't be more impressed with my experience. My team was approachable and genuinely invested in my  success and provided me guidance when needed. This position has encouraged me to go back to school to pursue a degree in eduaction.

It is an extremely stressful environment and they throw you in with zero training on their policies and expectations. The kids are wonderful and some of the classrooms have great management by the teachers while other classrooms are run by the children. HR does not know how to handle personal situations apropreatly.
