My goal was to make a positive difference to the people of British Columbia, the Branch definitely provided that opportunity. Excellent and dedicated staff, forward thinking ADM, DM and MInister; a open culture whereby staff had the opportunity to shine, present new ideas and be placed in charge of implementation.
The interfaces between Provincial and Federal programs, the very rewarding educational component, the ability to affect landmark changes with our legal decisions, and many, many more items, all contributed to an amazing workplace.

I am an ongoing contractor for the Province of BC and to be honest, I never imagined that I would enjoy the work as much as I do. 

My role is to audit existing web content and help make sense of it – how it is connected, what it says, where it leads – then create a matrix that functions sensibly for the end user, which is typically the general public. 

It's like solving puzzles all day and I love it.

busy, quite varied...no many meetings and problem solving issues daily

One of the lowest paid provincial governments in Canada. My job pays significantly more in other provinces. There is no room to grow as the Provincial Government is in such a deficit. Currently seems like they will find any reason to write you up and always feels like they are gearing up to fire you. They are currently cutting thousands of positions. Horribly depressing place to work.

Antiquated hiring practices using behavioral interview techniques. Interview panel can easily adjust scoring to pick wanted candidate regardless of others performance. Managers are not all trained as managers, allowing for poorly managed operations and stressful workloads. 
Golden handcuffs. Pension is great. Benefits are great. Pay is OK.

If you are thinking of government work do some reaserch on your coworkers. There are people who take advantage of the job security and lack of performance goals. You can end up working with some real bored and unhappy people who don't share the same passion as you. Makes for a tough working environment sometimes. Otherwise the job is great.

Offers excellent job security with good benefits and a fair work-life balance. But wages are below equivalent private sector positions and do not keep up with cost of living. 

A correctional centre is a place where it is best to keep your mouth shut and keep your eyes closed.  The job is poorly defined and the good officers mostly will work out the rules for themselves.  The strongest currency is information, so use it wisely.

My last position with the government was very rewarding and busy.  I enjoyed going to work, doing the work and helping court users i.e. police officers, judges, lawyers with the cases.
