My worst experience ever with an employer.

I am a long term educated professional person.  I applied for this company and was short listed and got a job interview.  After the interview I was soon awarded the job I applied for.  This is when the Circus began.  After awarded the job, I was told I was going to receive training for my job as advertised in their postings on various job boards and websites.  Once I arrived at the training location, the first day went completely fine.  It was then I found out that the one day of training I received was it for the week.  I was scheduled for two days of training the following week and the rest of the week off.  This is the first time I have ever worked for an agency where they only have you come in for one or two days of training per week and the rest of the time your off at home.  So, if you have bills to pay, like a car payment, mortgage or rent like most of us, you won't be getting regular full pay checks from PHSA during these training weeks, so don't expect full pay checks for quite some time until you are fully trained for your job.  Also, PHSA tells you that you are required to do copulous amounts of E-reading on their website- policies and procedures which take many hours to read through.  Easily days of reading material with electronic quizzes along the way, so you can't just read the material you are being quizzed on the material constantly.  You don't get paid for all this E learning you are required to do during the training period.  Its all on your own time at home. So, if you have a life or family you won't have time to read all the info they are cramming into you which must be done in a 4-5 day period before the next training session.  So, your basically working for free to get trained as they are not paying you.  Also, work benefits, medical, pension, etc don't kick in until 3-4 months after your hiring date.  This is your probation period, so you don't get benefits until you actually get passed training and probation.  You will only earn salary for the hours you actually worked.  Again, a big surprise for me, as where I came from the Employer pays you for training for every hour, not here.  The other big thing is management.  I was surprised how inadequate management actually is.  Completely surprised by this. I read other reviews of this company where people were commenting on poor management and supervisors.  I seen it myself first hand and I now see and agree management and supervisors are the downfall of PHSA. Too bad, these dinosaurs should retire and bring some enthusiastic new blood there, that's what is really needed there.  I hope this helps you all that apply for this company and you will also see what I have commented on.

Working here was great for experience and entry level skills. You meet and work with some incredible people and build great relationships. 
Heads up: This is an excluded/non contract position, this means you are required to finish your portfolio, or certain work even if it means spending hours after your scheduled shift trying to complete it without compensation. There's no seniority here. Constantly an extremely high volume department which produces more stress and impacts to other related business teams. Poor management all around as leaders hold meaningless meetings daily and for hours, no support on the floor. No intentions to find solutions to tackle existing issues, new issues and high volumes. This all creates a negative workspace. Extremely high turnover, with lack of respect to current hardworking employees. Hardworking employees truly given and expected to complete more/extra work without any incentive but more and more work. New staff hired are not suitable for job and lack basic common skills. 
Poor training and leadership results in new staffs creating errors unbeknownst to themselves. Despite one's skills, knowledge and experience, advancement to a regular status position from casual/ temporary or towards a higher/ leadership role is based on nepotism. 

The hiring process is really robust and lengthy, there is a LOT of bureaucracy involved in this place. Essential training components before starting are a bit of a hassle, and everyone has to complete standard modules about dealing with patients and hygiene even if you will not be involved in these aspects of daily work.

Worst thing is the holiday allocations and a weird odd year, even year allocation that only starts mid-year. It's so bizarre. If you start for example July 1st you won't be able to take any holidays until the following January! Not handy for parents starting a new job with kids coming out of school over the summer. That happened to me. It totally does not help the work-life balance. On top of this there is NO flexi-time, unlike all other public agencies I have worked in. So again, you're stuck with the stinking holiday set up and no way to get the odd day off for family matters. There is no working at home policy either, but the management seems to think it's ok for you to give up extra time to stay late, come in early and deal with issues over the weekend. All in all there were a lot of perks touted in the hiring process - discounts, fitness classes, but don't be fooled.  This place doesn't care about their staff. Work somewhere else if you have the opportunity. This place doesn't care about a healthy work-life balance.

Good luck with their broken hiring process, very frustrating and your left confused/frustrated by the process with only excuses and no clear explanation why no follow through with your application process/experience.  
You get a contact from a talent recruiter and have a basic phone interview and then your told your resume will be forwarded to another recruiting member. 
After that process good luck getting any further contact from the PHSA and seeing the applicant process go any further unless you lucky enough that some recruiter actually does their job with your application.
Even when your told you will hear back from someone from the PHSA within the time frame they said a call or contact will be made, the call or email does not transpire. 
When you finally do call back your treated to abrupt reply and or another form letter emailed to you and told sorry you resume/application was miss placed or lost in the paper shuffle
Guess PHSA hiring staff are too busy, over worked and overwhelmed by whats going on in our part of the world
May or may not be a good place to work but I finally gave up on the PHSA and found another position at another employer....note 6 weeks later I was offered a position but declined the position because of their broken hiring process/practices

The best part of working at the this company it’s when I get to meet up new people and cleaning it’s one of my passions.

Maybe sometimes I will have to work even I’m having tough days. But there is nothing else!

It’s very nice, everything it’s clean and stunning, people are nice, and there is kindness and respectability.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day at the hospital involved starting my shift by organising my cleaning supplies and ensuring all equipment was in good working condition. I followed a strict cleaning schedule, focusing on different areas like patient rooms, hallways, and common areas. I prioritized sanitizing high-touch surfaces to maintain hygiene and reduce the spread of germs. I also communicated with staff to ensure I didn't disrupt patient care and addressed any immediate cleaning requests or emergencies. My role required attention to detail, time management, and ensuring a safe and clean environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

The best thing was training opportunities, which were reasonable. Some of my colleagues were great. The 'surface mission' of the organization is admirable, but the delivery is anything but.
Far too much work for one person, shallow and false support and gaslighting from direct manager which never amounted to anything useful (and in fact was counterproductive, because she would say she was supporting us so often and so loudly to whoever would listen, that they believed her - but we received no actual help), and she eventually made it her mission to tell stories about our performance and target me as an individual. Everyone around her including senior management locally and provincial management allowed this to happen even though they knew better, and the union was not only no help, it was terrible at communication and did an awful (and unapproved by me) job of representing me during conflict resolution.
Highly recommend steering clear of this organization. Miserable experience overall.

While I used to enjoy the work I do in my department, unfortunately our recent management has been plagued with favouritism leading to unfair promotions. It has already occurred twice in the last year with the same manager. Offering much higher level jobs to new and inexperienced workers who were very obviously trying to cozy up to management has lead to discouragement, low morale and feelings of hopelessness amongst the rest of the team. Productivity has been lower, and work is being done with less pride. Manager does not show respect to regular employees who work hard, only to those with loud and obnoxious personalities who constantly engage in non-work related conversations, and take credit for other people's work. It's toxic. It has led me to search elsewhere for a job with a more equal work environment. Hopefully other departments are not this unprofessional.

To be clear, there are previous reviews that have been posted here that are NOT specific to the finance position in Saanich. There’s a great group of staff in that department that support each other tremendously well. All staff begin training on basic tasks Surrounding  the billing record process Then training progresses from there.  Supervisors are supportive, what they don’t have at hand they find out for you. Management has gone through numerous changes Causing Added stress To the group. Multiple system upgrades over a short period Causing a backlog of records. Once fully trained overtime Is offered (no obligations to do so). At times can be difficult personalities as a few are dissatisfied with changes made over last few years. With added duties and expectations Some feel unappreciated. Plenty of opportunities to learn and grow. 

Working at PHSA has been a valuable experience in my professional journey. The organization offers abundant opportunities for growth, allowing me to continuously enhance my skills and knowledge. The work environment is positive, with supportive colleagues and strong team collaboration. Management values employee input and encourages innovative thinking.
The work-life balance is excellent, with flexible arrangements that accommodate personal needs. While workloads can be challenging at times, the sense of accomplishment is rewarding. The healthcare benefits are comprehensive, and compensation is fair and competitive.
As a major healthcare provider in BC, working at PHSA gives me satisfaction knowing my contributions directly impact patient care and outcomes. This sense of purpose makes the work meaningful. I would recommend PHSA to those seeking a stable and fulfilling career in healthcare.

Work in portfolios vary - some are very exciting to work in and very busy.You will never have the same day twice. Some aspects are very stressful but well worth it if you get a chance to meet the people you are working to help.
I learned about Emergency Management; refined my facilitating and training skills; leadership; and politics
Management is constantly changing, hence so are the strategic plans and how work is done. 
Workplace Culture is good for the most part - only difficulties are around change management and how people move through the ranks.
Dealing with the changes  - the organization is constantly changing
Dealing with the various organizations and staff is the best part. Tons of new people and all of them are extremely dedicated to providing the best service they can to their clients and patients.
